Wildman
Has any one found a source for parts to replace the stock window regulator? Not that I don't mind getting out and yanking up on the glass to get it to caught back into the gear  Tryed serching and can not find any replacement parts for this. DirtyComanche
Junkyard. Cherokee 4-door front doors are the same. Find one in decent shape and roll the windows up and down to make sure it works good. Then drill out the rivets and yank it out. Cost will be $15 at most.
Wildman
I don't think that the J-Yard would be the answer, of the 3 MJ's I've had, all of the drivers windows did the same thing. Have 2 MJ's now, and have the same problem. Looking for complete doors for the 88, and that would solve one problem. Been searching for a replacement part for the regulator. Would power windows solve the problem? or is it just a replacement for the hand crank? using the same "shaft" to operate the window. Thanks ;)
rejeep
i have an old set of XJ doors... what you need from them.. take a pic and I will get it out for you.
jaekl
Just replaced them on my XJ. The problem is the cable. The last 4 inches are rusty and break off. Power windows probably have the same cable. Water gets inside the end of the tube and sits. No ideas on how to prevent and still be assured if water does get in that it will drain out. Leave the windows open half way would keep the cable out of the water. Might cause other problems. 2 door and 4 doors are the same. Didn't check if the rear doors could be donors. The cable comes out easily enough. Just need enough length.
DirtyComanche
My MJ did that, but I went to the jyard where they have 20+ cherokees and rolled windows up and down until I found one that worked. And I lubed the cable before I put it back in. I think it'll outlast the rest of the truck.
Eagle
I need to make this repair on two MJs and my daily driver '88 XJ. The factory only lists a complete regulator assembly for the early XJ/MJ with manual windows, for about $150 IIRC. However -- they list just the replacement cable for the power windows. The parts guy at my dealership thinks the cables are actually the same, so I bought one to try making the swap. I'm hoping to get to it this week, so I'll be sure to post whatever I find out. Wildman
Jaekl - I agree, that the cable is the problem. rejeep - I'll keep you in mind and probly will go with what you have. Eagle - Let me know how you make out with the replacement part, this is what I'm looking for. And thanks for the info. I just never had and good luck with j-yard around here, eather the parts were more that new prices, or the part was half shot. J-yards are a dime a dozen around here, one road has 3 in a row, and one street has 3 yards including u-pull-it, but all are way over priced, and I know that I would find 50 mj's and yj's all with the same problem. Thanks all for the info so far ;)
87manche
definitely let us know about that Eagle. i've got a passenger side door that suffers the same affliction.

HOrnbrod
Manual window regulators are waaaaaaaay overpriced, and used XJ regulators are mostly junque. I got sick of it and bought a pair of new Electric Life XJ front door power regulators for $150, picked up a set of window switches on Ebay for $10, and wired them in. Then sold the old manual regulators for $125 for the pair. Been going strong now for a couple of years, and so much better.
JeepcoMJ
why are manual regulators so expensive? man, i've junked 3 jeeps (2 manches, 1 cherokee), and a set of doors that ALL had GREAT manual regulators in them. I don't see how they could possibly be that expensive??? I'll have a pair up for sale as soon as grismj86 and I finish our deal for his power window stuff. I don't see how they could possibly be that expensive??? I guess it's because they are still in high demand for both MJ's and XJ's. These were not stellar products to begin with, and considering the age of our junk; most factory regulators (both manual and power) are either rusted out or on their last legs. Tracker
:wrench: If anyone else wants something from this thing, here's the deal:>I'm going to make a trailer using the rear half of it- so everything behind the cab stays. So do two of the four extra tires and rims. >I don't want to mess with shipping the big heavy stuff, (tires, seat, gas tank, door, AX4, etc). But for a small wrenching and packaging fee, plus shipping, I'll pull parts. >There's not much good in the interior, except the blue bench seat. >It doesn't have a cargo light or black visors >There are two good "Comanche" badges that aren't in the pics. I don't know what year but they are the ones that have the slight slant to the font. Right under the main badge is another slightly smaller one that says "custom". Same font, same slant, just a little smaller. > If anyone has a contact in SoCal they are welcome to come over and take any or all of it that I'm not using for free. (Except the mirrors and E-brake assembly) With a small donation of refreshments I could be coaxed into helping or loading. >I'm giving the CC first shot. I may say something on NAXJA in the near future. I bet I can beat the JY prices
HOrnbrod
Talk about a post from the past Yeah Pong, from the past. But nothing's changed. We're all still driving the same junk. You have a problem with that??
Wildman
Talk about a post from the past I'll say!! It's good to know that old posts don't die  I solved the problem I had with swaping out a good regulator from a junk XJ, only sorce that I could find. JeepcoMJ wrote about junking a bunch of doors, :shake: I bet you never thought about the window regulators in there, I have only seen power regulators on eBay, and maybe once manual regulators on eBay, and the $$ was there for them, Yes, they have a High Value!!! So save them window regulators, store them, sell them on eBay, or what ever. The demand is there for them, BC Xj's need them too.
pingpong
It was a few years ago when Pong still had doors  I went to the dealer and bought one for like 69 bucks, but heck thats been 3 yrs ago. Most dealers stock parts for a vehicle up to 10 yrs after it goes out of production

I looked it up in my parts manual and there is no difference in part numbers between XJ regulators for 2-doors and 4-doors. So I would ASSuME they are the same. jaekl
Yes, they do work. I did the opposite. I replaced my 2 door Cherokee regulators with front door ones. The rears might work too, but the travel may be shorter.
