mr.bigbock
I have extra comanche fender flares. And i always thought that they were nifty looking. And thats what i love in the jeeps. But recently i got a 1992 Ford Explorer 4 door. And the edges of the fenders and quaters around all of the wheel wheels are rotted. So what i plan on doing is shaving all fenders and quauter wells. And i just wanted to know if the comanche plates would fasten to that if i did it the right way. And if any one has ever done this with the comanche fenders on any other vehicle? thanx
BLHTAZ
Never seen it done. You should just do it and take lots of pictures to share the process with us
Pete M
Yeah, I gotta feeling you're blazing new territory putting MJ flares on an explorer. Maybe they'll improve it's looks. :D XJ rear flares may fit it better in the back since they are a tad smaller.
Darren
I don't think it will work. I believe early explorers have quite a large fender opening up front. measure in plenty of places first. it will be hard to tell since the explorer has a round opening and the jeep a more square. but like a said i don't think it will work. mr.bigbock
Ok OK i went out and put the fender flares up to the ford and looked at it. And pondered... Its going to need alot of shaving. And also the the real quarters of the ford are very close to the door so I'm not going to be use the full fender flare i will have to cut that. Also i will neend to make a new skid plate for mine are rotted out. "Will keep updates on progess. mr.bigbock
Eagle
I would not waste MJ (or XJ) flares on such a project. JC Whitney has rubber universal flare material that will easily conform to the Explorer fender contour better, with a lot less work.
comanche87
:agree: the mj rear flares are getting harder to find.
TNT
MJ flares can be raised as needed. Front XJ flares are the same size. Gaps can be filled by adding a piece of another flare to the flare you are using. I have played around with MJ/XJ flares and it amazed me how well it looks. Here is an idea of what can be done on a MJ. :brows: Side view Image Not Found Fit at front body line Image Not Found Fit at rear bodyline and filled gap Image Not Found Tire coverage with 33x10.50-15 on 15x7 rims with 4" of backspacing Image Not Found Another view showing the 11" of clearance over the 33" tire with 6" of lift Image Not Found Here are some pictures of what can be done to the rear of a XJ. I would think they can be adapted to work on an Explorer.
