Andy in Pa
I plan to hack off most the extra crap on the stock SUA mount and weld shock mounts to the axle. :dunno: If your going to weld on the shock mounts, then weld on the leaf spring perches too. Mountain Offroad (MORE) has a nice set of LOONNG leaf spring perches, and they give you 3 spots to position the axle on the perches too. They are significantly cheaper than the "bolt-on" version. This is an area where I would not skimp on quality. If you plan on running a 35" tire, (a 315 size is close to 35") even it your not going to take it offroad that much, I don't care who's spring perch you use, but please do it right the first time and weld on the spring perches. BLHTAZ
The way this kit bolts in, it's not going to move. Anything bolt on can be as good or better than welding as long as quality hardware is used. One point of reference is a winch plate...it has been proven that a bolted winch plate will take more to rip off than a welded plate. It has also been proven that Grade 8 hardware is stronger than most welds. Here is a shot of it installed from Motions site...

pingpong
Adam, seems like a really nice product. Up till I seen your setup.. I only new of two other companies making"bolt on" SOA kits. One was Rocky road outfitters.. and the other was warrior products, but that was for a YJ setup and required some work. :smart: Might not be a kit for someone with welding skills, but it does address a bunch of issue That come up when doing the conversion. Like the fact that it still uses the factory shock location. I can't speak on this product, but I can speak on the customer service from Motion offrod. It is top notch

Andy in Pa
LOL, This is great, I am going to have fun with this one!!!! :clapping: :clapping: The way this kit bolts in, it's not going to move. Anything bolt on can be as good or better than welding as long as quality hardware is used. That top plate in that kit should have rolled sides (like the factory MJ bottom plate with the shock mount), or that plate wil just bend when the grade 8 hardware is tightened. Also, that is bolted into a D35, but if you have an MJ D44 axle (like I do), you'll need to cut off the tabs that fit into the D35 SUA spring perches and......... .......SAY IT WITH ME NOW....... WELD IT TO THE AXLE!!!!!!!!!! FYI..... I don't have a pic I can show you, but the MJ/XJ D44 axles have cast-on spring perches, not stamped steel ones like on the D35. Besides, have you ever seen ANY factory axles with spring perches that bolt on? Me neither, theres a reason for that..... One point of reference is a winch plate...it has been proven that a bolted winch plate will take more to rip off than a welded plate. It has also been proven that Grade 8 hardware is stronger than most welds. Proof or SPOBI (Spewing Out Bogus Information) Here is a shot of it installed from Motions site.... 87mjdriver
but for the guy that doesn't have a welder or a buddy with a welder this is a great option. also great for someone that just wants the look of a lifted jeep. not everyone likes to pound their truck into the dirt. and after it is set up and the driver feels like he might push the limits (wheel hard) he can drive it to a shop and and pay a very minimal price and have a couple welds put on. another thing, I have been in the coast guard for 10 years, 7 of those were spent in very small coastal towns, there isn't always a pro 4x4 shop to go drop your truck off and have a suspension installed with some modification. the best one could hope for is a les shwab tire center that mastered the art of putting on 8 to 12 inches of lift on a leaf sprung ford, chevy or dodge. like icurunnin pointed out: lay of the guys that have decided to build stuff for our rare trucks and not all the mainstraem rigs
Darren
like icurunnin pointed out: lay of the guys that have decided to build stuff for our rare trucks and not all the mainstraem rigs So because someone makes products for Comanches we should all be happy with whatever sh*t they put out? aka a bolt-on spring perch. thats just stupid. Pete M
In my opinion, it seems to be a decent quality product does the job it advertises. Unfortunately, it's a cleaver solution to what really shouldn't be a problem. Welding on perches is a simple job for most anyone to accomplish (just find a local shop), and if you're going SOA, you probably shouldn't be using a Dana 35 anyway. Now, if they could invent a bolt-in application for other axles (cough, 8.8, cough) then that would be something. It's a good idea, but falls a bit short on practicality (in my humble opinion of course).
1tuffmj
I'm all about the welding, first any welder knows that a good weld is stronger the the metal is is welded to.then for all the guys that do not go off road wit there mj.what about LOOKS.there is alot going on there and kinda looks like poo.nice idea but clean it up a little and you got sum thing.
