s.o.a. kit?

i noticed there is a member here who is a part of a shop that makes bolt on s.o.a. kits. my question is if anyone here has used them and if they correct rear pinion angle? it looks like a really nice kit but would like some feed back before i send them $150 for the kit.

I'm going to assume your talking about our kit... and I'll leave the "sales pitch" at the door and just give you the hard facts.

 

I've been using the kit for over 2 years now and wheel the MJ relatively hard. I haven't had a single issue with it to date.

 

The kit "keys" into the existing SUA perch so it does not move when it's bolted down. The kit is set for the correct pinon angle for 6" of lift; this is done by the way it "keys" into the existing perch. It is also a lot longer than any weld-on perch that I've seen is; this helps in preventing axle wrap often found in a SOA setup using factory leafs. Also note the "notch" that is used for the brake lines. So you don't have to worry about moving the factory lines at all.

 

Some guys will say "never ever ever run a bolt-on setup". I feel that the bolt-on setup is actually stronger than just welding a new perch onto the axle due to the way it's designed. Some will probably argue that point though. It's for someone without a welder and wants an easy solution to doing SOA in the rear.

only abuse would be hauling tires and axles

for what its worth, i have used the bolt on system bought it from Rocky Road.. i wanted the nice long stable bed for the leaf and the little bit of spring wrap resistance. now since i have upgraded the axle i clearance the units to fit the larger tube of the new axle and welded them on. they are a very good product. and as stated they (when used on d35) lock into the old perch and they do not move or give way..i wheeled the sh#%t out of my D35 with this setup and it was rock solid.

what prevents it from shifting side to side? For like $20 you can get perches weld them on and call it a day. or for around $120 you can get u-bolt eliminators from TnT customs. I don't see why anyone would run something like this.

 

IMO I'd rather have AIDS than a bolt-on SOA perch.

I guess your not much for helping a company who builds parts for Mj's rather than xj's.

 

Back on topic though, I was wondering if there would be a way to just buy the mounts. I wouldnt use the u-bolt or plates. I plan to hack off most the extra crap on the stock SUA mount and weld shock mounts to the axle. :dunno:

If your going to weld on the shock mounts, then weld on the leaf spring perches too. Mountain Offroad (MORE) has a nice set of LOONNG leaf spring perches, and they give you 3 spots to position the axle on the perches too. They are significantly cheaper than the "bolt-on" version.

 

This is an area where I would not skimp on quality. If you plan on running a 35" tire, (a 315 size is close to 35") even it your not going to take it offroad that much, I don't care who's spring perch you use, but please do it right the first time and weld on the spring perches.
