TheJdmGuy Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Hey guys, I'm new, I'm From Canadah, I'm gettin this jeep from some guy, its 2wd, ive searched and i found some stuff, but what would i need to make it 4wd, also I'm a Bodyman so i was gonna do it up in army green with a white starrt on the door :). also only got one picture OWNERs info no valve problems, the entire engine was completly redun around 200,000. any problem or worn parts were replaced. runs execlent!!! Needs all brakes bled, I just uinstalled a new brake line. the tranny shifts smooth and the clutch its VERY new. inront of the rear wheel well is the rush. it was patched. the rust was no where near that big, about the size of a quarter, but i did all around the hole to completely stop the rust. the suspention lift is a Rough country, same as the coils. and yea, its 2wd.....but with the posi its un stoppable. HONEST!!! The rear treads are good but it will need new front tires 4 saftey. or just a small set of street tires. the interior is really mint. very very clean. creepinjeepin Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Looks like an awesome deal. There is treads about converting to 4wd.
JOMJ87 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 All MJs and XJs are but you do have a frame under the bed but yes its unibody. Cole
87manche Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 all comanches are unibody. They share a front end with the cherokee. All the drivetrain stuff is the same as a cherokee. Likely for your 4WD conversion you can find an XJ that's been wrecked or has a blown motor for cheap and take all the parts from that. You will need. 4WD trans/tcase combo front axle linkages center console bezels some misc. wiring to make the 4wd indicator light work. That's the short rundown.
jage Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 You could BL the bed. (Actual advice I got from a fellow Jeeper  the other day )
TheJdmGuy Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 lol yeah but its got a 4 inch raise, i was just wonderin if i could rasie the body up like 2 or so inchs... any other ways to raise it without gettin another kit?
DirtyComanche Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Coil spacers, and longer shackles (depending). It might make the control arm angles unbearable. Cut some bloody fenders, actually.
sinnaevd Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 did u buy that one out of the trader???? I think that's the same one I talked to the guy about
Stumpy Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 250 hp, 330ft/lbs of torque what has been done to the 4.0L?
TheJdmGuy Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 lmao, header and intake...:P its bull$#!&, but I'm not sure if it was in the auto trader,
TheJdmGuy Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 was the one in Fort Frances or whatever? what did the guy tell you?
pingpong Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 If he paid 350 a piece for those rims  he got  royaly Nice looking rig I say cut the sheetmetal BTW whats a Comanche R/T? I never knew they made that model
jage Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 (...) yea, its 2wd.....but with the posi its un stoppable. HONEST!!! (...) IDK about the rims, but everything else he says is clearly the truth. :D
pingpong Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I wasn't going to touch that part. The factory Posi's leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. Thats why I run a lincoln locker. and it is unstopable, unless the speider gears fail :brows:
87manche Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I went the detroit route. Freaks people out at the gas station when they here "click click click" from the rear end.
sinnaevd Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 what are your guys feeling sabout OX lockers?? Or is there another cmpany out there that you can buy lockers that you can "unlock" for road driving?? I just seem them last night, so I haven't started really looking just yet
JOMJ87 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 what are your guys feeling sabout OX lockers?? Or is there another cmpany out there that you can buy lockers that you can "unlock" for road driving?? I just seem them last night, so I haven't started really looking just yet ARB, Detroit and there are others but they are expensive if you want to have one thats you can engage and disengage. I went with the Lockright witch is the click type also aussie makes them to you can get them for around 150 to 200 depending where you find them and if they are new or used. I havent had any probs out of mine. Cole
pingpong Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Normallly with a lunch box locker (aussie or lockright, ezlocker) you won't notice it on the street, especially if you have the VD front axle. OX locker the only problem I know of with them is the cable working loose and not engagint the front axle. I know of one person who put an air cylinder on his oand used his OBA to auctuate it
jage Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I ran ez-lockers front and rear in my XJ for years with the vacuum disco replaced by cable. The only complaint is that I didn't like to unlock it on the trail because then 100% of the force is going on the connected axle. 2wd they're awesome, 4wd engaged they're awesome, but when it comes to tight turns... not so much. Also the guys in my club like the option of running open- it makes it a bit more challenging in the parts that your truck is way too much for. I never had that option. If you want to save money go ez-type locker in the rear and something that disengages in the front, the cheapest being the vaco disco.
jage Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Oh yeah and the ez-lockers don't last very long if you get water in the diff...
pingpong Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Oh yeah and the ez-lockers don't last very long if you get water in the diff... No type of locker/gears/bearings last long if that happens
