I think its false

The vin number reads as a 1987 and the factory would not sell a truck

That has a structural failure (he said the firewall and floor was repaired)

They would not just repair it and sell it. they would have destroyed the unit

"how much ** can i possibly make up to sell this truck i wrecked and swapped odometers into?" lol

does a 231 even mate up to a torqueflight? EVER? and was the 4.0 even in pre-stages then?

I see the auction has been cancelled because of "an error in the listing."

What a load of bovine excrement. The 30th vehiucle prodiced in 1985 and it originally had a 4.0L engine? Unlikely -- if Jeep had had the 4.0L by then, they would have been selling them. And there weren't any SWB MJs until the 1987 model year. Plus, the early (V6) XJs and MJs didn't have 231 transfer cases, they had 207s.

The Dana 44 axle WAS available in other than the metric ton package, you just had to order it. I have an '87 SWB with a Dana 44. However -- the Dana 44 wasn't offered until the 1987 model year. The optional axle in the '86 MJ was the AMC MOdel 20.

I won't call this guy a liar, but I don't think he's telling the truth. I'd really like to get a look at this paperwork he claims to have.

i found what he told me when i asked about it on ebay.....here's what he told me...

Let's be real clear on this point. This is not concept truck, or a pilot. It was a test truck, that actually went down the assembly line to test the fit of components prior to the actual year of production. Then it was used to test the durability of those existing components in the next year of its life. Then it was retired from service and then sold. This is what I was told by the Department Manager at Jeep Corp when I picked it up in Detroit at Chrysler Headquarters in 1988. I have a copy of the original bill of sale to the company who origanlly recieved it from Jeep Corp. I worked for those people 1988 to 1989 and subsequently bought the Comanche from them in about 1990. Believe what you want. This Jeep Comanche has a unique history. That is how I am advertising it. Thanks for your question. Denny

I'm still trying to figure out how he bought it from the people (or the company) who bought it from Jeep Corp (which didn't exist, because by 1990 it was Chrysler Corp), yet when he picked it up he picked it up from "Jeep Corp" rather than from the people who owned it.

I don't think so.

There's always the possibility that he's telling the "truth" as he knows it, and the guy that sold it to him was lying his @$$ off. :D

So instead of being a lying bastard, the ebay guy was just a gulliblel idiot. :shake:
