2.5 idle at start up?
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The IAC that is on the 2.5 is a completely sealed unit not like th e4.0 that has a plunger style one.The only moving part is the idle stop that rests against the throttle body plate. -
I need to re-phrase my last post. I previously had a high idle problem that would only go away when the IAC was tapped on pretty hard. I swapped that with another one but now the idle problem is all good but just when its started up it should idle up a little then slowly come down to a steady idle. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas , I was considering removing power to the truck and reconnecting the battery to see if it relearns th eidle position at a cold start up. :???:

I am having a problem with my 87 2.5 AX5 short bed two wheel drive MJ. I have been told that the sensors don't do anything untill it is up to opperating temp. so not sure swapping sensors would help. But If it is a vaccum leak why would it go away after it warms up and sometimes when I tap the throttle? Well any help would be great anyone out there have any suggestions? The problem is that it idles high after I start it sometimes it won't idle high till I have given it gas .

I wondered if the ISC was the problem I have messed with it a little and looks like it could be it. Ill have to check online and find one.

forgot to add that the truck sat idle for two days, then problem started on the third day when I started it and went to work. Ive used starting fluid, to see if there was a leak just in case but no leaks.

I have a 87 MJ with a 2.5L AX-5 trans and just the last two days Ive had a problem with the idle being to high. I have done nothing to the truck and it just started to idle high yesterday. I tried swaping the injector it is a throttle body injection system. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this to happen. I was thinking it is the sensor on the rear of the throttle body but not sure I tried disconnecting it last night when I got home but didnt seem to change anything I did disconnect it while it was running. Any help would be great.

87 2.5 engine wants to die when warmed up
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That might be my next thing to work on . I have just tested the ECU, MAP, and MAT sensor in my other 2.5 comanche and they all worked fine. I think it would be a good idea to drop the tank and check it all out. -
Yes worked like a charm to put the six cyl coil. It has been running great

Support under the seat????
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Awsome I'm getting rid of it and do it my way. I'm sure it may have served a purpose just would like to get rid of it. -
Wondering about the support piece that goes directly above the frame rail and on top of the floor pan. I know they are two different vehicles but I will be redoing floor pans and would like to eliminate this part. I'm sure in extreme conditions this would help maybe but can I leave it out and mirror a Cherokees floorpan design. I did complete floors in my stepsons Cherokee and just wanted to see if this part that in most cases is rusted bad enough it can't really be that good at support or salvaged can be left out or if someone on here has done it this way . Just havent came across it that way yet

Will a spedo cable cause problem???
wranglercory posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My MJ won't run anything over idle after its warmed up to opperating temp. Could my spedo cable that is disconnected cause my problem. The truck is a 1987 MJ with a 2.5 liter AX5 trans and is 4X4. I just thought of this while going through the flow chart of troubleshooting. The chart called to check a speed sensor and I thought it could feed from the cluster to the ECU ???? Just a shot in the dark at this point. -
Visegrips can come in real handy also.

Might be cheaper to add leafs from a Explorer or a truck spring with more acrh.
