I am wondering if anyone has seen any good posts about installing a turbo on a 2.5. I am really wanting to attempt this but I need someone who has experience and a positive attitude about completing this task. I realize there will be doubters but lets see what we can get out of these 4 bangers. I think it would be a very benificial addition to those of us who want to keep the 4 banger(milage) . Thanks

Well I decided to upgrade the front clip then decided to do the dash, problems were going to be sensors and so on. So I have decided to completely upgrade the truck. I figured that the only way to prevent sensor issues was to swap everything. I will be getting things in spurts but I figured that the truck is solid enough to make it into a 1997+ Comanche. I have located some of the parts and would like to know if anyone out there has upgraded and what things they did. I know there will be critics here saying just leave it but I am beyond the point of no return in my mind. I already have the complete dash from a 1999 XJ and have already started the comversion on the front clip. The truck has a 2.5L with a AX5 in it.

I was wondering the same thing I think this will be a huge deal when people start to figure out how to get them. I am in the middle of converting a 97+ front end. right now and I really like the tail light idea.

Has anyone seen someone who has converted the rear suspension to a coil suspension. I am wondering if this is an idea that would work better than stock suspension.

Closed ?open cooling system????
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I forgot to add how do I get the hard lines (2) that go into the heater assem. apart? there is a clip on them but after I took the clip off they were still stuck together pretty good, they will twist but won't pull apart. -
Closed ?open cooling system????
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So if I pull all of the heater and cooling lines out of a 97+ and use the 97+ heater assembly should everything go relatively smooth. I am setting myself up for a complete dash swap, so I already know that the old heater assembly won't work with the newer dash. -
Swaping in a newer gauge set 97+ ?????
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think I will be installing new gauges in the 97+ gauge cluster I think I would prefer that look. This way I can customize it the way I want. -
I am facing a delima I have a complete 97+ dash assembly and I will soon be graphtingit into my 87 Manche / Cheramanche. I am trying to understand the heating and cooling system. I think it should be pretty srtaight forward in the aspect of taking everything from a 97+ and swaping it over. But I need to understand better how a closed system compaired to an open system worksand if this appliesto what I am doing. I have noticed the 87 has a valve on the coolant lines and the 97+ goes straight into the cabin. If anyone has some info about this it will be a great help.

Can Comanche Wheel bearings be re-packed?
wranglercory replied to mknherhappy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you don't know how long they have been in there just replace them. I just did mine recently and it will only set you back about $20 or so. I did all the front wheel bearings and it rides soomth as glass. If you repack them youll need to clean them thouroughly and inspect very close, I had one that had a small chunk missing out of it and that would have ruined my spindle. -
I noticed that the vacume switch behind and below the glovebos may have been the culpret. I just need to see another view of another manches heat and ac panel to compare the two. I am just really curious what all the relays and actuators are for back there? I had heat working fine the way it was hooked up but after switching things around and reconnecting the vacume lines right thats where the problem is
-
there is a black one that was cut I reattached that one and the black with a purple stripe was cut also.

I have managed to get my AC to blow through the vents but now I can only get the heat to come out of the defrost vents. I had a question about what all of the vac. actuators and relays were doing behind the glove box. It doesnt look factory but then abain it does. I would like to be able to contact someone who has a 2.5 5 speed with air to compair the two. The vacume lines behind the controls are as such

Please I hope someone can help. I am working on my 87 MJs heat /ac controls. I really need a picture of the rear of the panel. Mine has a few splices in it and I'm not sure if they are supposed to be there. My problem was that all of the heater controls work but when I switch it to the AC position I get nothing coming out of the vents, it is like they all shut. You can still hear the fan blowing but nothing out of the vents. I also found a few relays and vacume switches under and behind the pass. dash. Any clue what those are they look factory but in a way maybe not. I REALLY need a picture of the rear of the panel in a hurry, I seldom get to work on my own vehicle and this is the first Jeep I have owned to drive myself and I think it might be nice to have working air. If someone has pictures they can maybe e-mail me I can't thank you enough and since I'm trying to hurry could you possibly give me a ring if you send any photos . The control panel has AC then vent then heat and then defrost if I remember right My number is 515-729-4582 and my name is Cory Thank you for your help in advance.

I was looking for the thread The Picture Thread if anyone can post a link to it I would appriciate it very much thanks.

I have just recently purchased a 1987 MJ with a 2.5 and a 5 speed in it. I decided to charge the air cond. in it and realized that when I move the heat/ac switch to on it doesnt blow out at all. I know that there is probably a vacume switch somewhere but I'm not sure where. Does anyone know where the switch is located? A picture would be best if you have one. Thanks for your help.

I have noticed that the last two mornings when I go to work my 87 4cyl. 5 speed manche is a little slugish but only between low rpm and up to speed rpm. Has anyone experienced these symptoms. It has been pretty humid the last few mornings and I was thinking it could just be a little moisture somewhere , but if someone has experienced these problems maybe someone could give me a starting point. Thanks

Swaping in a newer gauge set 97+ ?????
wranglercory replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am thinking that if I spend the time tracing the gauges wires to the connector and trace the ones I have in my truck it should work. I know this will be very time consuming but even if I have to install aftermarket gauges in the 97+ gauge cluster it should work. I work with electronics and tracing wires to there respective gauge and connecting to the 88s wires in theory it should work. I know even if I have to swap sensors out the wires should still go from point A to point B. -
It is pretty straight forward. First go to a junk yard find a mid 90s cherokee, you will be looking for a prop. valve. This is up front in front of your booster, you will need this. Then after removing the old prop. valve install the new one from the JY. You will need to basicaly find one of the two brake lines going to the rear and you will use it to run the rear brakes. I ran my line into a T valve looking thing in back that was already there. I capped one input off and ran the brakes straight from there. I hope to get a thread with pictures on about how to do this. The line going into the front of the prop. valve will not be used on the new setup.
