  1. OK I needed to add that I have the complete dash assembly. I will be going back out to get the heater assembly. I will be starting to test the wires on both gauge assemblys and I think I will be doing it the hard way that means tracing down every wire in the 97+ gauge cluster and matching it up to the older gauge wires. If anyone has a link to what they think might match up with what I am doing please feel free to post it. Thanks
  2. I would like to know if anyone knows if I will be able to swap my old gauges out for the 97+ gauges. I would like to know if I can go from analog to digital does the spedo pick-up go straight from the speed sensor to the gauges or does it go through the computer then gauges. If anyone knows for sure please let me know. This is in a 87 MJ that I am swaping the complete dash out of.
  3. Did you just get lucky on the roller chassis or how did you aquire it??
  4. Does anyone know if there is a post on installing a 97+ dash into a older MJ. I have a salvage yerd willing to sell me what ever I need from a donor that has a sun faded dash but the substructure should be good enough to fab it in. But I would like to know if this has been done and if anyone has links to it.
  5. Sorry it is a 2.5 . The first MJ I bought was a 4.0 the second MJ I bought has the 2.5 with a 5 speed tranny.
  6. I just recently purchased a 1989 MJ with a 2.5L and a manual 5 speed tranny I havent had time to crawl under it yet to investigate what tranny it has. I thought someone might be able to tell me. it is a very standard model with no radio to speakk of and doesnt even have a pass. rear view mirror.
  7. I would like to see how your front end project turns out I will be doing this also .
  8. Does anyone have pictures of a spring over before and after. I want to do it but I only am looking for 4"s of lift and what will I need or what can I use to do the front preferably using all Jeep parts .
  9. Just like the title suggests I will be taking delivery of a 1989 MJ that has never been touched. I am looking for great ideas from you guys out there. The first thing I will be doing is upgrading the complete front end to a 97-99 XJ front clip. I will possibly be upgrading the front doors as well. After that I will be looking at doing a 3-4" lift I want to stick to the 3-4 area since I will be driving it everyday for a work truck. I would like to hear some of those ideas that I know we all have and make an ultimate MJ unlike others out there. Please keep in mind this will be an ongoing project and need to keep things realistic. I will be doing all of what I can out of my garage and having some things done other places. I am open to ideas of how to do the lift ie. springs from other vehicles TJ, YJ, XJ, ZJ I would like to keep all of the donor parts from other jeeps if at all possible. What info I can add right now is 1989 MJ 4 cylinder manual trans. 2wd(will also be doing a 4WD transplant). Well please send your ideas and pictures if possible. Thanks in advance for all of your help.
  10. I will be getting my 2nd MJ this week sometime and I am trying to figure out what older vehicles I could find one on. I want an older donor because of the price it should be alot cheaper. I am looking to build it up from scratch with rear disc brakes.Does anyone know if there is a list of vehicles that came with D44 and are they all 6 bolt or can I make it into a 5 bolt axle. I hope to be able to do an article involving this swap.
  11. I'm a little confused is the 242 a AWD and how is that different from my 231s Ive had that were 4WD . I want the best I can find at a reasonable price . Thats why I thought about the 242 , 231s seem to be pricey and in demand more . I am looking for a good TC , but when I saw the option for a police 242 I thought it might be a little stronger .
  12. I am just talking about the vacume mess that runs the vacume valve on the front of the airbox. Also what are the vacume parts attached to the side of the intake, that is one part I'm not familure with .
  13. I am curious to know if anyone has swapped doors from a 97+ Cherokee onto a MJ. If so how did it turn out and does anyone know if there are any good articles with pictures of doing this. Thanks
  14. I was looking at car-parts.com and they offered an option of a NP231 and I think the other was a 242 Police package or non Police. What is the difference between the two is the police one better ???
  15. I just got started working on my 89 MJ I would like to know if I can safely remove all of the vacume lines attached to the air box. I realize that I can't remove the lines going to the valve cover, but what about all of the other lines like the one going to what looks like a warm air valve on the front of the air box, and the lines going to something at the intake mani. This will be quite a work in progress but I am so excited that I finally goto my MJ :D
  16. I have just purchased a 89 MJ and the rear brakes are currently disconnected. It has the load bearing valve assembly in the back, the question I have is do I really need the valve in the back or can I just replace the proportioning valve in the front. I have a front valve off of our old 94 XJ so I should be able to use that. I just would like to know if I can just remove it.
