There we go! Super clean underneath. Not a speck of mud! And the leaf springs look really new... I don't know if they were replaced or not. And I had to get a picture of both MJ's together. Oh and how do ya'll like the expensive Jolly Rancher soda overflow bottle? Lol had to improvise. Going to try to start a build thread soon. Currently working on getting the new dome lights installed. Gotta change the tires before I start driving it around, these are very dry rotted. -

not far from the Harbor Freight in Albertville/Boaz. I'm just outside of Attalla so it wasn't far at all for me to drive. I got really lucky by knowing about the cooling systems in these Jeeps because that's the only way I managed to get it for 1000$. The guy was tired of spending money trying to fix the leak/overheating problem and it was such a simple, cheap, fix. I kind of felt bad about it! Thanks guys :D interior/engine pics will be up this afternoon. -

As promised, pictures! After I did the open cooling swap, she seems to be doing great! Drove her home and she drove amazingly. So far, I have just over 1100$ in her. I'm very pleased. Cosmetically the only big issue is this. He was hit while sitting in a parking lot and it bowed out the fender some, not a big issue though. The other issues are that I hear a scraping sound when the brakes are not being applied, guessing somethings dragging a little bit. Dissapears as soon as you hit the prdal though. And there is a squeaking coming from the belt all of a sudden, it's not a squeal, just a squeak that gets faster with the engine. Kind of went away after awhile though. Otherwise the Jeep seems to be great. Definitely putthing that WJ booster/mc in, though... -
I can't stand the buy sell pages around here but I kind of deal with the crap from them just because I have found some good deals thanks to them. Like this Comanche I'm picking up Monday. But most of the time they're trash. I was in a page for a while called "jeep cherokees for all" or something like that and it was GREAT at first but then people constantly would post stupid things bashing other car makers or "rear end" jokes with pictures of girls. Then there was one guy named John that would cuss out anyone that disagreed with him. Just couldn't handle the ignorance of it. I actually didn't want to post on anything in that page due to the fellow named John supposedly knowing more and correcting me.

The title finally came back. Monday afternoon I will be going up there with cash and open system swap parts and hopefully bringing her home! Pics to come. -
Took 5 hours for the thick pieces in this batch, thin ones about 4. Not bad at all considering I came home on my lunchbreak and loaded it up, then went back to work and came home to almost complete jerky! :D

Making Jerky! I've always been a huge fan of jerky and a couple months ago a guy at work was talking about how he makes it. Couple days later I'm buying a dehydrator, Japanese meat cutting knife, and about 4 pounds of rump roast and here is the turnout! For my first time I'm very happy with it. It's delicious, not to tough. Used a simple teriyaki pepper marinade and let it soak for a good 40 hours. After marinade and meat I'm in it about 15$ and I got close to (if not over) a pound and a half of jerky. Slicing the meat and preparing the marinade is actually quite addicting!

I use Imgur to post pictures. Upload to Imgur, swap the link to "bb code" copy the link, and past it in a reply and it will show up. Welcome to the addiction!

I also ordered a set of Volvo injectors. Love the ones I have in my other Jeep, couldn't turn down the price. -

After thinking it over all day today... I believe that I am definitely buying it. Messaging the guy now to tell him to tell me as soon as the title comes back. Also have a Moroso inline filler coming in the mail. I'll keep ya'll posted after I get the Jeep in my name. Thanks a bunch, as always! -

Got it all done today. Not only was the housing cracked but the thermostat fell and didnt let the housing seat completely. Went and bought a new housing for the heck of it. No leaks now! Except for the cap on the pressure bottle, of course. I talked to the guy and if I buy it then I can order the parts to make it an open cooling system and install them in his front yard so I can hopefully drive it home. I got to hear it idle for about 20 minutes today. Sounded great. A little bit of a wandering idle but nothing bad. No signs of a headgasket leak so the overheating is most likely the lack of pressure cause of the pressure bottles cap. Do you guys think I should buy it? I personally think I'm going to. I can't think of anything else that could be causing it to overheat. The only bad part is from what we know the little "overheating" dummy light doesn't work. I wouldn't be able to tell if it was overheating on the road. Open to all opinions. Going to go ahead and gather all the parts for the open swap so when the title comes back I can get it. If you all agree with me that it's worth it, that is. -

I was thinking this is EXACTLY what happened. Ill figure out tomorrow when I change the gasket. If it seals, then I will be buying it and ordering the parts for the open swap. Going to see if he'll let me install the parts in his yard so that I can just drive it home instead of paying a tow company. So which bolt goes where? Long one in the top? It's been a bit since I did it, just remember them being different. -

I did the closed to open swap on my other MJ and removed the heater valve, I actually consider it a good thing to remove so the heater core doesn't get clogged as easily. Just on my other MJ I used a brand new open style radiator :D -

I would love to go that way as it seems like much simpler way to do it. The price on the tank is just a bit out of range currently lol. Plus I love getting that big open space on the firewall when an open system is done :D and come on, you know you want a Renix! -

on the thermostat housing? Edit. I found it, thanks! I know Cruiser had a topic recently on adding an inline radiator cap and getting rid of the pressure bottle while keeping a closed system radiator. Anyone have a link to this topic? I can't find it. I have a parts list if you want. Closed to Open cooling system parts 11038 heater hose 11039 heater hose 63745 Moroso 730-4514 rezzy 703-1698 rad cap Thanks a bunch :D I'm guessing it's basically the same process as buying an open cooling radiator and using that instead of the filler neck? When bleeding the air out of the system can I just leave the cap off of the Moroso filler neck and let the engine bleed itself like I did with my other MJ with the open radiator? -

According to Advance auto's website, that gasket doesnt fit. Looks the same though. I'm guessing it's an HO gasket instead of Renix? -

Its an 89 and yes it does still have the original. This guy didnt even know how to bleed out all the air from the temp sender, so that is why I'm sure it's an extremely easily fixed coolant problem. I do plan to buy it. I just want to get this leak fixed before I have it towed because it's the only thing I'm worried about. It's clean inside and out. Underneath was beautiful. No mud at all, like my current MJ has. It's been well taken care of. Including a professional paint job. -

And the housing is spewing from the gasket and is spewing towards the drivers side of the Jeep. I doubt he cleaned off the old gasket and I doubt he added RTV to both sides of the new gasket. And lastly I doubt he tightened to spec. -

If I get it to stop leaking then we agreed on his bottom dollar of 1000$! -

Update! Already looked at it. Its the tstat housing. I'm betting he installed it wrong. Otherwise ALL of the work was done by a jeep.dealership. water pump, radiator, everything. I got to hear it run and it runs PERFECT. Still waiting on the title to come back. I'm going Monday with a gasket and some coolant to try and get it to stop leaking. If I can get it to stop leaking, then I will be buying it and having it towed to my mechanic so I can work on it and have them work on it. It is already set up for a trailer, which is a plus. Wiring and a ball on a FEY bumper (won't be towing much). I doubt it is the headgasket as there is no oil or coolant in the wrong places. Now, if I buy this, I want to get rid of the stupid closed system by adding a radiator cap to the upper radiator hose. What is the full process of doing this?
