  1. Somebody managed to use a dead employee's address. Usually, the system notifies the ninja techs of unauthorized emails and they are yanked right out of our inboxes. Our Novell "ZenWorks" has something to do with how that works. Way beyond me.
  2. This just came through my ".ca.gov" email: You might be Taliban if... 1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to beer. 2. You own a $3,000 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can't afford shoes. 3. You have more wives than teeth. 4. You wipe your butt with your bare left hand, but consider bacon "unclean." 5. You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide. 6. You can't think of anyone you HAVEN'T declared Jihad against. 7. You consider television dangerous, but routinely carry explosives in your clothing. 8. You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs. 9. You've ever uttered the phrase, "I love what you've done with your cave." 10. You have nothing against women and think every man should own at least one. 11. You bathe at least monthly whether necessary or not. 12. You've ever had a crush on your neighbor's goat. :rotfl2:
  3. My turn: Since the power goes to the lights all the time, (fuse providing) the lights turn on by grounding the other side. The dim light and intermittent symptoms suggest that it could be something like a pinched wire under the floor mat, rocker trim, or wherever your wire is ran. It might even be some weak short right near or on the light itself.
  4. They're fairly low-tech but they work. When I was in high school calculators weren't allowed in chemistry or physics during tests, (yes, they were invented by then) but slide rules were. It beat grinding #'s the hard way. Anyway, several cam companies used to make these promotional circular slide rules for figuring exactly what you were trying to figure. They were for drag racers to know what tire size and / or gear ratio would achieve what speed at a particular RPM. My POS didn't have a speedometer so I used it to know how fast I would be going at different RPM's in different gears- A vain attempt to avoid speeding tickets. Sig Erson and Crane used to make them but they may have gone the way of my long hair. :hmm:
  5. Get one of those circular slide rulers from a hot rod shop and it's pretty easy. Hmmm. I may be dating myself. I was just asked, "What's a slide ruler?" :(

    Crazy Swed's!!!

I live on a segment of the "Rim of The World" rally course here in California. It's kind of cool to have a race come to you, instead of the other way around. Good seats too. And yes, Brats do make good rally cars.

    22Rs

The way I remember the 22R's rep getting good was that it seemed able to go 150 - 200K when not much else would do so. But at the time, owners of American cars were just starting to be told to change their oil more often when these mileages were becoming known about. My dad had a couple 'yotas and use to rave about their engine life. Of course, he used to change their oil every 3-5K as opposed to 10-20K in the old Ford before them. Those 'yotas were weak and used to do weird $#!& too.
  8. Thanx guys, that's about what I figured. The SoCal NAXJA parts whores throw off our judgement sometimes, maybe deliberately. I'd be interested to know where this JY guy makes his money because I know it isn't in return business from giving good deals. He has about 2 MJ/XJ customers: me and my son. D44's, bucket seats, tail lights, instrument clusters, chrome rear step bumpers, and full black interiors just sit there unless we buy them. Sometimes for years. He's closed on the weekends too.
  9. We saw a D44 (with a LSD tag too) in a JY MJ today. The guy says $450. That sounded a little steep to me. The truck had 249K on it and it would need to be regeared to 4.10's too for us to use.
  10. No, it was an agent- with a fistfull of hundred-dollar bills. I didn't know until some of my friends saw him on it at The Rockstore, (a bike hangout in the mountains near LA.
  11. I rarely get an opportunity to brag when it comes to vehicles but here's a chance. Jay owns my last Ducati. Come to think of it, that kind of makes me a moron for selling something so cool that Jay Leno would want to own it.
  12. I don't think you can use a quart of oil every 100 miles without seeing some burn- if your rings are shot like the guy said. The probable answers have already been offered up. I'd start with a good cleaning and plan on a main seal unless the cleaning shows that it is coming from somewhere easier.
  13. I wouldn't doubt that one of the two that had motors got rear-ended by a truck and became the inspiration for the Gremlin.
  14. Having one license plate when two are required is abbreviated "P.C." -It stands for probable cause. It gives the cops the authority to pull you over when they otherwise might not have been able to. Who needs that? I'd bet the license plate replacement would be cheaper or easier than a ticket-And that's assuming they don't find another problem.
  15. I'm bummed. I think it was done less than 20 miles from my house and I had no idea.
  16. Yeah, me too. But I really want to try a Rokon someday.
  17. As this is a work computer, I have a special one I like to put on when I have to take the computer to our I.T. guys for repairs or reprogramming. It gets 'em every time if I remember to make the icons and taskbar invisible. You gotta have a sense of humor when you work for the state. :rotfl2:
  18. I change mine all the time. The machine pictured in this one is a Rokon, a 2WD motorcycle that I intend to own some day.
  19. It's actually going the other way. The Forest Service is bidding with the rest of the buyers when a bigger property come up for sale. They own a surprising amount of property that is outside of their borders and they use it to trade for stuff inside the lines to make nice tidy forests with no inholdings. Water will be the key to everything. The farmers in the Antelope Valley are asserting their rights and the developers are having a problem securing guaranteed supplies. Southern California is a desert and the water that has been there for growth is getting harder to come by. In the meantime, our town well levels have been steady since '93. As long as we flush the toilets, don't water a lawn, and don't wash cars, our water just goes in a circle.
  20. The little community I live in is the last remnants of an old Spanish rancho that resisted incorporation into the Angeles National Forest when it was formed in the 1800's. There's a couple hundred houses here but that's not enough to make it worthwhile to bring a water pipe into town. So, we're surrounded by federal land that can't be built on and we will probably have the well / septic system for the forseeable future. Real estate speculators hate it, people who live here love it. The snow will still be on the north side of the hills and at the higher elevations. It's supposed to be in the 70's here this weekend. I hope so because I'm going chukar hunting on the edge of Death Valley.
  21. I was going to keep the brakes and hook up an XJ ebrake lever for parking purposes. When the brakes were adjusted close enough to work though they made for a lot of rolling resistance. I've always wondered why surge brakes aren't more widely used. It's such a simple system and they seem to work real good on a big boat I used to tow.
  22. My son was hoping to need 4WD to get to school and almost didn't get to. One pass had a little ice on it and a handfull of commuter idiots did their best to block the road in every angle possible. I hear that new MT's can really throw the muddy shoulder slush if all 4 of them are spinning fast enough. :clapping: Yeah, that's the Tracker homestead. According to my zipcode I live in a Los Angeles suburb. From the top of that mountain I can see the ocean and Catalina Island on a clear day. But even so, I'm 20 minutes from the nearest streetlight or traffic signal. Cell phones don't work here either. Life in LA doesn't have to be that bad.
  23. You guys in snow country must laugh your butts off if this stuff makes the news in your area. We get 2 inches and the Los Angeles County freeway system gets shut down.
  24. If your truck was factory equipped with the 7 prong round plug in the back it's likely the hard part is already done. You should only have to connect a controller to the fuse junction block under the dash. Controllers like the Prodigy come with instructions that make it pretty simple. I've put them on Chevys and Dodges and noticed that the wires in question are even the same color between makes. Have you ever noticed how easily the cops do a "P.I.T." maneuver on TV? That's how easily a trailer will 'knife your tow rig, especially if you try to brake with any steering input going on.
  25. X2 what CW said. Plus, if the trailer you are towing has electric brakes, use them or don't tow it.
