h/o 4.0 block with renix intake will it look?
jeepjerry replied to asm4mcc's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ive done this as well with no problems. I replaced a renix head on our 89 xj that had a burnt valve with an HO head. I gasket matched the head ports to match the renix though. Runs stronger than any HO 4.0 ive had..... :dunno: -

Good thing you caught it before more of them snapped! Sounds like it was a heck of a ride. -
It was about time to get the girlfriend something newer for a daily driver. She was driving a 89' Cherokee pioneer with a 6.5" lift and 35"s. I put a reman engine in it with pacesetter header and some other goodies so it ran nice and even drove good. Came across this '97 from Pat (jeepcomj) and she bought it. First thing i did to it was replace the little 2" lift with a 5.5" one with rough country super flex upper and lowers. Needed some brake work and other stuff and i took care of it slowly. Got it all ready to go into DD duty and had the pleasant suprise of a knock when the engine warmed up. Never was able to drive it around long enough from when we got it till it was ready to drive to notice the knock. It only got moved around the yard and into and out of the garage. Never knocked at idle. Tore the bottom end apart and found 3 spun main bearings!!... And a new oil pump... :rotf: I had a good short block in the garage so i tore the head off the knocker to go through and use on the new engine. Completely rebuilt the other engine to stock specs, got it ready and did the swap. Added a 99-up intake manifold in the process as well. After that, bought brand new 285/75r16" bfgoodrich all-terrains and mounted them on Cragar v-5s. This is how it turned out. Have less than $2000 in the entire jeep as it sits. Runs and drives great.

I'm also trying to build a '72 AMC Javelin. This is where most of my money goes. Been building an aluminum head AMC 360 for it which should put out around 450 hp. and ive patched all the rust and getting close to getting the body work done.

Can Comanches be reliable daily drivers?
jeepjerry replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The renix in my girlfriends 89 xj proved more reliable than my moms 99 xj when the 99 didnt start over the winter in very cold temps and the renix fired right up. The 99 cranked over but didnt fire until the temp rose throughout the day. We got my girlfriends 89 in '07 and she has been daily driving it ever since. -
I'm not too far from you. I'm right by lake geneva. My buddy from work got transferred to harvard ford a few months back. I didnt know whether to post in here or not...lol

My CJ-5. Hard to believe ive had it for 8 years. Never lost a street race with it... A full size cherokee i used to have. Should have never gotten rid of it. Got my waggy afterwards though.
-
You will have no problems. Just don't launch it at stoplights. I pulled my brothers 2000 silverado with my 91 jeep xj with a 4.0.
-
Oh jeez! she kinda warned us that her brother was tougher to buy from, but thats crazy. :shake: I'm sure he stepped in afterwards and made everything gold plate priced. I was happy with what we got that day though. We didnt steal it, but we got a good price. Just wish i had more cash on me.

My grandpa worked at AMC for years and retired in the early 90's after the chrysler takeover. When my grandparents lost their house a few years ago and shortly after we lost my grandmother, my grandpa gave me this coin that he recieved while working there. It means very much to me and is one of the reasons i wanted to get my hands on a comanche. I will never get rid of it but just wondering if anybody has seen one or how uncommon they are and really just wanted to share it.
-
Really???? Wow, thats crazy. Are they still wanting to sell and thin out the stash? I called the daughter a couple months afterward to try to get there another time but it didnt happen. Think her name was Jodie? I would love to have that gremlin in there.
-
Hahahaha.... Nice. I would put that in my living room. I should of kept the nice waggy rear bench i had....shoot!! Do you still keep in touch with the family with the AMC parts??
-
Yes it is! And i believe he did! Wades comanche sucks! only because i don't own it. Ive ridden in it though and felt awkward pitching a tent in my pants that close to a dude..... :D

new rig for the girlfriend girlfriends current driver Old wheeler i had. My 05 unlimited My J-20

Hi! I'm Jerry and from SE Wisconsin. Been a jeep guy since i started driving. Ive owned one MJ but only for about a month since it was mostly rotted and gone. Looks like i'll be picking my second one up in a few weeks. Its an 87 shortbed 4x4. Ive built quite a few jeeps in the past few years and would post pics of them all if photobucket would cooperate. I drive a 05 Wrangler unlimited on 35"s daily and a 81 wagoneer a lot. My girlfriend drives a '89 cherokee pioneer on a 6.5" and 35"s daily and currently building a 97 on 33"s to make the 89 a designated off-roader. I also have the first jeep i got when i was 15 which is my 76 cj-5 that is on a 5" lift and 35"s and powered by a strong running AMC 360. I picked up a really clean '77 J20 pickup at the end of last year which is waiting for its 401 to be built. Ive had a few other XJs so I'm familiar with the platform. I'm glad to have gotten my hands on an MJ to build. Ive been wanting one for a while. My grandpa worked at American Motors and built the things. He has owned a few of them and one up until a couple years ago. He also gave me his 1985 Jeep comanche medal he recieved when production started. My wag with a built 258 and 4-speed. Waggy motor.
