  1. Mule13....Its not spilled, its gunked up all over the inside of the engine bay. Jerry...Thanks! Good smelling is OK. 8)
  2. Still have not "solved" this issue....have not had time yet, or funds. My plan is to buy a new Trac bar, and find a newer steering linkage/gear at the JY. (both recommendations from my buddy. Eagle: IF you read this, how do I "test" the lower control arms for noise/movement?
  3. Hey All, This may be a stoopid question, but what can I use to clean up gooped up PS fluid....looks like its been leaking for a while.....? Degreaser? OR? -E.
  4. Yep. Never seen this type of wheel on a cherokee, but never thought to look that hard. Are they the same in those years? Also, the JYs here are slim on late model Cherokees....later 90's stuff only....(which I believe have the "round" horn button)
  5. On this same subject...anyone know offhand if the "rubber" part of the pad is seperable from the plastic mounting? (my pad is in good shape, just busted ALL of the mounting holes off the plastic "backer"......
  6. Mine was in great shape till my A**hole buddy tore it off the steering wheel. Needless to say, he is forever banned from working on my truck. -E. Edit: Funds are usually tight here, so I had no choice but to find orig replacement. I do however have my eye on the "round button" type wheel....
  7. Oceanic....Thanks Much!!! horn surround found. -E.
  8. Defective coil new out of the box? Also....New HT coil wire? Id pull the coil you bought and have it tested, and if its bad, have them test a new replacement coil before you leave with it....just throwing out ideas.
  9. Changed the alternator out today....and we have ALL seen an alternator right?!? Hehe....and I also finished this up....DIY Tonneau Cover....Here are the support rods: We used marine grade spray on waterproofing for canvas. Here is the cover installed:
  10. Hey All, Here is an update: I got 2 crossmembers installed. The rod is 1/2inch conduit. the "rod cups" are PVC. There will be 3 of them, but the hardware store ran out of pvc. Here's the crossmembers: And....Here is the cover installed: It may take a couple days for the canvas to relax onto the bed rail/tailgate. We used a marine grade spray on waterproofing for canvas. It's supposed to rain tonight...we shall see.... :D
  11. Hey All, I am in need of a black "horn surround" (steering wheel pad) This is the one with the sort of rectangular horn button. IF you have one, PM me. Price shipped to 55407? Need asap. -Erin
  12. Jim, thanks again. Alternator changed, and wire left where I found it :D Runs like a champ again.

    wow...

Good thing there is an "off" button on Youtube...Ugh. :D
  14. So...Always better to investigate in the daylight right? I'm not so sure my steering gear is leaking. The big hose that comes out of the resevoir IS leaking at the hose clamp. (I tightened it carefully) My only question here is, what can I use to get all of the steering fluid cleaned up? Will a standard de-greaser work? -E.
  15. Gee thanks guys...all this banter is helpful in finding what I'm looking for. Hard to drive with this thing flopping around. (I do live in the city, and it is a DD) I thought in a group dedicated to Comanches, maybe a few people might have an extra (that I could buy) Maybe I need to go to ebay? There is only one MJ in the boneyard (hour and a half away) and its already been stripped clean. Please only post if you have what I need. -E. EDIT: Mechanic FIRED! What a knucklehead! :fs1:
  16. Hey All, So...My so called "mechanic" buddy is turning out to be less than reliable in the "giving a crap" dept. I was changing out the alternator tonight (its making noise) and happened to notice fresh wet spot near the steering gear. Previously there was "old" leakage evidence. I stuck my hand under the steering gear and it was fairly fresh fluid leak. I previously did not feel any clunk in the steering box, but its pretty hard to get a hand down there. I'm assuming my steering gear is shot, and likely the cause of all my steering issues. (this would also explain the slop in the linkage, correct?) I will try to get at it to see if I can feel any clunking/slop when I put the alternator back in tomorrow. I have to get new linkage anyway (most likely from the JY) and will probably pick up a new steering gear (zj) More thoughts on this would be great. Trying to keep a positive attitude.... -Erin p.s.- I STILL need a horn surround. :thwak:
  17. what I did not notice is a fresh looking wet spot near the steering gear box. I was just out there and stuck my hand under the gear box and it is wet. GRR. Could this actually be the cause of the play in the linkage? (the leak seems like a dead give away) I did not notice any noise coming from the gear box, but....One thing at a time I guess. Any thoughts on this would be great. My "mechanic" buddy is not so reliable these days..... -Erin
  18. Needless to say, I was not happy about it...as I watched him do it. :fs1:
  19. bump, bump....does anyone have one? Id like to know that I have a back up in case Oceanic does not want to ship.... -Erin
  20. My plan was to inject grease into the tre end of the track bar and see if the clunk decreases at all...if so, thats my issue....I do have a ball joint seperator and am prepared to toss the old trac bar out, and get a new bar/boots, etc....
  21. I need the "surround" part....There are 2 screws on the back of the steering wheel that hold the "wings" on......those are completely broken on mine. I assume there are a couple more buttons under the horn button..... -Erin
  22. Jim...You ROCK!!!! Thanks....boy did I freak out when it suddenly appeared. :D
