AW4 swap torque converter question
willi2ds replied to willi2ds's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys, I did quite a bit of reading and came up with the same thing on them being the same through the years. Thanks for the heads up on Dacco as that's the one I was going to get. I'll definitely have to check out that site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
AW4 swap torque converter question
willi2ds replied to willi2ds's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So, I'm a little confused. Were you giving me that link to help with the swap or were you just giving me something to do for the last few hours? Lol. Thanks. Either way, after reading 60 pages there's NOTHING in there to do with my question. Any one have any actual knowledge of the interchangeability of tc's through the years? I'm in the middle of a auto swap on my 88. I've got most of the parts I need, but one of the things I still need is a torque converter. Does anyone know if all the TC's are the same through the years? From Dacco's (TC manufacturer) it looks like 87-01 aw4's all had the same part number. Might by a new one but if I can get a jy one out of a lower mileage newer xj I might grab one. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Ba10 slave cylinder grommet
willi2ds replied to willi2ds's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, that's kinda the direction I'm heading. I've got some old grommets around here that I'm sure I can rig up. If nothing else it'll get me by until the right one comes along. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I'm replacing the clutch slave cylinder and the grommet that holds the 2 lines in place where they come through the bell housing crumbled into little pieces. I can't find one anywhere, I've hit the local yards and no luck there. Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not sure if it was an oddball incident or not, but I just bought a LUK kit from Rockauto and while trying to bleed the system, all of the sudden it started spewing. Bad slave cylinder that came with the kit. Might've just been a fluke though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For the classic plates, anything 1975 and older needs to pass emissions once and then you're good after that, plates are 5yr plates at a time. Anything 25 or 30 yrs (can't remember which one) or older (1976+) can get collector plates but have to pass emissions every 5 yrs. Not sure why, but every time I take the Comanche in, they crawl all over it and check EVERYTHING (it's always passed). They barely look at my other vehicles, lol.

Which control arms / track bar?
willi2ds replied to willi2ds's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys. I looked at the IRO arms before, might go that way. What about track bars? -
I had a lady run a red light and ran into my the drivers side wheel. The shop said my pass side control arms were bent as well as the track bar. I have a 6" Rough. Country lift w/ CA drop brackets, but want to upgrade, what are you guys running or recommend?

I had grounded off a little too much as well, I just used a couple of small pieces of Aluminum Tape I had around, it was thin enough that I could adjust thickness easily.

That's sucks, I saw it climbing pretty fast. I bid on it a few times but bailed out early on.

I just upgraded to Volvo injectors and did a "cold air" intake, while I had the intake and exhaust manifolds off (cracked Exh manifold). Truck drove and idled fine after putting everything back together. Now it runs for about 10 minutes, driving or idling and then dies and has to sit a good 1/2hr before it'll restart. I also did a new CPS as well? Another odd thing is after trying to restart it and then turning it off, there's a clicking sound for about 30 seconds afterwards, sounds like the injectors trying to fire. Any thoughts?

Ftpiercecracker1- Were those XRF ones as tight as everyone says before they broke in? Read some scary stories about them when first installed.

I'm going to replace the BJ's soon and have been reading through several posts. Most people seem to recommend the Spicer/Dana ones for stock applications and I know Synergy is at the other end of the equation (but $$$), MOOG has gone downhill. What are the lifted/modified guys running with offset rims and larger tires running? I've looked at XRF, Alloy USA but could use some insight on what's been working
