hi comanchiacs, been a while since an update. i took the truck to maine in june, got 22 mpg on the highway with a small load in the bed doing 70-75 up I95.jeep drove great all summer. tried to get to the bodywork while towing boats (no trouble hauling a 20foot bowrider with the jeep) in and out of the lake, fishing, tubing ,usual summer fun. even got a free trampoline loaded in the back and hauled home for the kids. miss the jeep as i have it stored up there, may go up and bring it back to get to the body work but my other project, a '93 240sx vert is keeping me busy now. still looking for a 2nd manche to keep down here and toy with..

that's now how mine work too. not sure why they started to work again, but i did hit all the door jams, keyholes, hardware with a huge amount of wd40 last week. now my keys twist like a hot knife in butter and my doors have no squeeks at all.then it rained hard last night and the courtesy lights stopped again, DOH! got my entry lights working full time now, the door jam plunger got a good oiling/cleaning, now they work great..

Cigarette Lighter/Not Working
peteco replied to jeeplover88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
any luck with your lighter? i just found out mine won't charge my gps and replaced it. still no luck. it lights up though// -
got the radio in, and all the speakers are working now and sound good. now ready to start on the common heater blower only works on high problem good day today, did my first u pick yard run. got some stuff, more next time when all the snow and slush is gone. even got a rear window clip! just found out my lighter doesnt work (my gps died on the way up there), so i got a new 1 and replaced it, still no luck, must be a fuse/ground issue. also replaced my turn signal relay ( it would freeze up after about 6 clicks). and put in a drivers door speaker, sounds much better. will get the rear window clip on soon. found a windshield leak i need to fix too. good weekend progress before the super bowl. put the rear window clip on, replaced the blower resistor, the old one was super rusty and had the bottom insert broken/ stuck inside the plug. blower works fine in all speeds now. replaced the clock bulb, heat/ac bulb and lighter bulb and ground. put dash back together and everything working like new now! have not updated in a while but still making progress. i have put about 2000 miles on the jeep since i got it, clutch line fix still working, needs about a shot glass of fluid every 400 miles or so of in town use. wanted to do my bodywork but so much rain it is hard to get started. have done some grinding on it and have the bondo ready to go. pretty much done on the inside, door courtesy light work, gonna reseal the front windshield glass all the way around this week.realize it needs a floor patch, about 6" x 8" is all on drivers side. still have 1 lug to get off and still looking for good bigger used tires with white letters on them.. i will post bodywork photos as soon as i get 4 days of rain free weather. also i have hauled all kinds of mulch in it and amazed at how strong it pulls fully loaded. need to put in a towing light harness soon too.

hey stinger and others, did you put new speakers in your 88? if you did what do you recommend. i got my stereo to work but only the right side speakers sound good, both drivers side sound very scratchy, and my antenna doesn't work so i have to trouble shoot that too. my progress this week was the stereo and attempts at blower/heater fan repair (no luck yet). also still no luck on the frozen lug nut. still looking for tires, and my spare that looks good doesn't hold air, a little rot i guess i couldn't see. now back to the garage. ok, got kick panel off and my antenna lines were disconnected at the coupler, so ill crimp that togethor and that should do it.

hi, not sure if jeep did a lot of laredo's, but from the pictures it seems like they have upgraded seats, chrome bumbers, chrome mirrors,(mine got painted black by PO), more plastic body trim, cargo and fog lights in common. does anyone know what the options packages were originally? got my new bumper on and here's a picture of it and the rust free bed. still trying to get lug nuts loose on the passenger side, i have 2 that are the wrong/different size that may need to be heated to get loose. and my spare tire winch is frozen too, so blaster shots all around. got the spare loose, it also cranks the wrong way from the manual, but it works fine, nice tire on there too ,wish i had a full set of these they look better than the blackwalls on there now. still have 1 lug left that won't budge and is mostly stripped, you can tell the last owner had worked at it too too bad the old spare had rot, it may have been the original equipment. i've become focused on changing the tires now, shopping out good used 235/75r15's today. the ones on there did fine in 8 inches of snow the other night, 4 wheeling with fog lights blazing... (editmar '13, have four 31's sitting in back waiting to go on the jeep in the spring.probably go with the white letter side out when i mount them ..)
-
i'm not sure but i would guess the cargo light and fog lights may have been part of the laredo "package" since stinger's comanche seems to be set up the same...and both work fine, i even have 1 plastic fog light cover. both of your comanches look great.

hi comanche fans, i made more progress today, cleaned rust off the chrome front bumper and mounted the new rear bumper.my clutch is still working fine, put about 20 miles on it today with no problems. took it to a carwash with the bedliner out to give it a good high pressure wash from above and below ( probably left some rust there).i figured out why i had a thumping noise, my left rear tire lugs were loose, not sure how that happened, but it could use new lugs and a tire rotation tomorrow. the old bumper would be usable if someone wanted to weld new brackets in it, i'll put photos up of it if anyone wants it. also, could that trim piece go over the rear view mirror mount? my mirror seems a little low so maybe its a replacement?

i thought road noise was part of the jeep experience :waving:

thanks, i replaced the line but i am still working on getting the bleeder loose. today i found a plastic trim piece, is it for the slider window? and here is the frame rust/ rot from the squirrel condo.. and are these bed rails original? should they stay or go? took the comanche bed liner off today and the bed looks awesome, no rust at all ok, had to cut the bleeder valve, after i cut it off it took me 2 minutes to get it loose and working after i sprayed blaster in the drain screw end, DOH! had i done this before i cut it off i'm 90% sure it would have worked fine (so stupid, must be those nasty blaster fumes) so got a flare end tool in there somehow, made some marginal ends and put the whole system back togethor. pumped it and then 1 fitting leaked out. back to flaring, after 2nd try got it back together and drove the truck around the neighborhood! it ain't perfect, but it shifts pretty well for now. bleeder works like new "DOH!" flare tool wedged in there (don't try this at home) ,had to cut it to fit in there. after the drive around the neighborhood,( edited, mar '13, still works great ,hardly leaks at all)

88 MJ long bed, frame rot repair
peteco replied to LarryH88bt's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
great photos, thanks for posting them. my 88 had been a squirrel hotel too but not as bad as yours. i'll add those photos soon. just the bottom of a few places on the drivers side rail for me, not the whole rail. good luck.. -
thanks for the photos of your laredo. my interior cleaned up pretty well. got the sliding window working today too. need to find out if i am missing a piece on the slider, or is it just glass?
-
this weeks progress : clutch line connectors rusted solid, pb blaster couldn't do it,so i had to cut it off,and still couldn't get the fittings off. now trying everything to get bleeder unstuck without cutting it off. may end up cutting that sucker too. have a flare tool ready to go, hope to be driving by next week. got the rear bumper off, need to cut 2 bolts that won't budge. fixed 1 courtesy light too.

hi all, i got this 88 comanche laredo for $500 in november. ran and drove fine , put 300 miles on it until the clutch line busted a rust hole about 10 miles from home. so now its in the garage waiting a fix. it's got the i6 ( 104K on it), 5 speed, 4 x 4, buckets, long bed, bed liner, fog lights, and tow hooks.paint is tired, rims have oxidation, rust holes on rear quarters and frame rust where some squirrels spent some time ( ahhhh nuts). quick list to fix, clutch line, parking brake (done ),vent window (done), drivers floor pan rusted but not through, new rear bumper put on (came with new 1!), very small gas leak (new seal/new tank maybe?) new radio, PO had bought a cheap 1 and it was dead. then body work.
