oh that ol' thing? thats just your flux capacitor. looks like you might need a replacement...i wouldnt try getting up to 88mph until then  -
well...my d44 has made its way out of the donor. d30 is almost there the cool thing is, i don't have to do the work. the guy just sent me a pic to tell me the parts are almost ready for pick up. it was pretty nice to get a picture message of my new axle after a hard days work  so probably saturday ill be hauling them home

i don't care if this is my build thread....i want pics

it actually was flux wire. if i work on the floor again, ill have a new welder by then. with the heat switch on high, i was burning through too much and with it on low, i didnt have good penetration. and every patch was different so the whole thing was pretty much just experimenting. i had to fool around with the feed speed a lot to get good beads but its sturdy and quieter so its good for now i honestly don't care about the interior right now. I'm so anxious to pick up my axles :jump:

you do very nice work. looks "textbook"....exactly how repairs looked when i was in trade school. down to the sheet metal screws to hold things in place before tacking. thats the way to do it. the spot weld method would have been my approach if i had actually gotten floor pans. and believe me, if i knew that id be going this far in depth with this truck, i would have taken my time and done it right from the beginning. my long beads sucked mainly because of the welder i used. no gas and only a high/low switch for heat. I'm not proud of any of the welds, but I'm satisfied with how it turned out, given how i actually approached it. but this is my first project and won't be my last. i can always come back and tackle the floor again in the future. better yet, i will. someday. when all mechanical stuff is done with and i have a nice welder and other tools instead of doing what i can in my parents driveway with the extreme anxiety of finally getting this thing on the road. I'm going with the 4.5" springs from hell creek and going to add coil spacers to my existing 3" coils. should sit pretty close to level but we'll see. a (very) slight reverse rake won't look bad either IMO. the pictures at the top of page 6 are after my 3" rough country kit with AAL but I'm sure you know that already. my leafs were pretty warn out though. i knew id eventually go bigger so AAL was temp. just thought id actually use it before going bigger lol.

i recommend rockauto for just about anything. its usually the first place i look  john - thats lookin pretty amazing! i threw away my old carpet and am still leaning towards rhino-lining my floors, but ill keep that stuff in mind...especially for any future projects. nice spot welds too, might i add. i wish i had a decent welder. i still need to make some drain holes. looks like you custom fabbed those yourself? ill finish my floors eventually. right now i just need to focus on gathering the rest of my parts for the swap. the axles are going in first but itll probably happen after my vacation. I'm going to colorado to visit my buddy in less than a month but ill have the axles home by then. i need to order my new leaf packs, coil spacers, and shocks first. then swap the axles. and thenn ill be able to rip out a lot of the old and really go to town :wrench:

you didnt miss it, i just forgot i havent updated for a while. the booster and mast. cyl. came together for about a hundred bucks (reman.) off of rockauto.com their website is basically a catalog. you just select your vehicle and browse parts. the booster and mast. cyl. are re-manufactured parts for an '88 comanche pioneer 2.5l. i buy a lot of stuff there...theyve usually got some good deals, and their shipping times are amazing. usually by the 2nd business day i have whatever i order.

my 2wd axle had tapered inner and outer bearings in the rotors. it also had that seperate bracket you mentioned for the caliper. however, the rotors are not important. theyve been returned already. the dana 30 might already have decent rotors. who knows :dunno: ill find out when i pick up my axles (forgot to look when i was getting the tranny and tc) if the rotors are good, or even if theyre not...if theyre not ill just buy some 4x4 front rotors obviously...will it be very obvious if the calipers i bought online arent going to work? or could there be something so suttle that id miss that would make them incompatible? -
Naterenfo1 - ask and you shall receive  more lift will be added very soon  so, I'm making progress with my brake overhaul, right? ive got my booster and mast. cyl. in now looks pretty good. had to bend new lines to the front proportioning valve because the old ones were rusted and the back one broke and started leaking while i was trying to loosen it. here's the old booster/mast. cyl. anyways....I'm ready to put the new rotors and calipers in, and realized i forgot the bearings. so i run to the store and get my bearings, seals, grease, etc. get my bearings packed, and find out the guy gave me the wrong seals. at this point, the store is closed so i had to call it quits. BTW! check out this rotor! :ack: (i knew it was like this. just finally got to take it off and compare it to a new one lol) GROOOVVYYYYYY well, a day or two later, i get a response from a craigslist ad i replied to which brings this overhaul to a screeching halt. reason? i now have a good portion of the parts needed for my swap. Dana 44 rear with lsd, Dana 30 front, 5spd man. trans. (puke-goat), AMC 231 transfer case, and "everything i need from the (donor) truck to make the swap" including shifter, linkage, driveshaft, crossmember, etc. special thanks to Lsmurphy for posting the craigslist ad on Comancheclub.com  i just happened to stumble upon it on a post here. clicked the link, and was shocked to find it only about 30 miles from me  so far i only have the trans and t/c. the rest needs to be pulled for my next trip. I'm going to add a lil more lift to it while I'm swapping axles, since ill already be under there today i took it out of my truck and cleaned it up a lil with some brake parts cleaner and a couple rags so i could store it in my garage (until its ready to go in) it actually cleaned up fairly easy. i wasnt tryin to make it spotless, just figured itd be nice to see what I'm workin with. the t/c has a lot of red clay stuck to it though :shake: more parts to come = more pics soon

sweet  we're on a roll...i should ask all my questions right now, here in this thread hmmmm... :hmm: got one i know the rotors are different between 2wd and 4wd, but how about the calipers? i was doing a complete brake overhaul when i found the parts for my swap, so i ended up returning the rotors, but the calipers i got from rockauto and id rather not have to return them. also, is the mast. cyl. and booster the same for 2.5 and 4.0? i already but the new goodies in (old booster leaked BADDD and rockauto had em both as a unit for a hundy) -

okay, just makin sure i understood correctly. actually, i went to pick up the trans and t/c today and the guys son was saying the same thing. hes got an XJ on 33s. not sure of the lift, but he actually has the front shaft in his that I'm going to take for mine. well ive been writing down my thoughts on the lift components (so i can get the axle swap done first) and noticed that hell creek advertises 3" leaf packs for the same price as 4.5" packs. my original thoughts were to get 3" packs and some drop shackles to make it 5", but if i just go with the 4.5" springs, ill save a small amount of money, and i won't have to see the ugly shackles sticking out from under the bed. plus since ive got 3" coils up front and am going to shove some pucks in there, whether theyre true 2" or actually 1 3/4", (theoretically) it should sit a lil more level with the 4.5" springs, right? I want your 2 cents here. also, I'm thinking about skyjacker hydro7000s to go along with this. does this sound about right or am i that sleep deprived right now? -

ahh yes! thanks Pete! -
so ive got some parts lined up for my swap. the guy says i can have everything i need out of his comanche to do it. the motor on his is seized, so thats no good, ill just have to find a 4.0 somewhere out there. where, oh where am i going to find one of those straight sixes?? lol anyways, I'm getting a 5spd tranny and 231 transfer case with my first trip. he says if i tell him what else i need, he'll pull the parts for the next time I'm there. i need: -the D44 rear with lsd (yes, i said D44  ) -the D30 front -all shift linkage -driveshafts (even though theyll have to be lengthened, since ill be at 5" of lift once i swap axles) -anyone know how much theyll have to be lengthened by? its going to remain spring under with a new 3" pack and shackles for the rear and my current 3" lift coils for the front and coil spacers up front. -crossmember (which ones do i need? just the one under the tranny?) is there anything else i will need from it? i know if i get a newer 4.0, therell be more computer related things. ill cross that bridge when i get to it. btw, we both have an '88. i could buy the whole thing from him but i really don't have anywhere to put it :shake: as far as lift parts go, i know i will need to extend brake lines, get longer shocks, and a new track bar. what can i do for the swaybar? i have drop brackets now that came with the 3" kit but like i said I'm adding another 2" now

thanks i know what you mean by it feelin like christmas lol congrats on your find, and fingers crossed for when you pop that cover

new plugs, wires, and backfires
raviolli replied to raviolli's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not a clue. Like I said I have very little info on this trucks past. I've had it a little over a year now but haven't been driving it. HOWEVER! I have just located a butt-load of parts so I'm going through with a major swap. We can now put an end to this post! I appreciate all the responses, you guys are very helpful and I know ill have questions again soon, as I will be swapping to a 4.0L and 4x4. Also going to add 2" more lift as long as the axles are out My 2.5 no longer matters!!! -
2.5L 1990 MJ. Noise after Shutdown?
raviolli replied to lexluthier72's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i get this strange feeling that youre hearing the same sound i hear every time i shut my truck off. i too have the 2.5L and it IS, in fact, very difficult to describe. ive always wondered what it is -

new plugs, wires, and backfires
raviolli replied to raviolli's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the plugs are brand new...i replaced them because it was running rough/missing and its still the same (after getting the order correct). the tank was near full when i seafoamed. i used 1/3 in the booster vacuum line (slowly) with the engine running, shut 'er off, then 1/3 in the oil filler, and 1/3 in the tank. waited 5 min, started and ran for a while. idr how long, but i ran for a while, then drove around the neighborhood a lil. there wasnt even that much smoke to be honest. hardly enough to see which i thought was kinda odd that book will be trashed. i have no idea why its like that. the entire page is F'ed up...2.8l saying 1-2-3-4-5-6.....i think the 4.0 said the same in the picture, but had the right order printed. i really don't remember. but i don't trust one word of that book...it will be burned. even on the cover, it says comanche, cherokee, and wagoneer, but there's a picture of a grand cherokee on it :hmm: carnuck, its up on jackstands right now as i am raplacing the booster, mast. cyl., rotors, and calipsers (+ bearings obviously) so i don't really trust the vibration of a misfire at the moment. i might try that another time but once I'm done with the braking system, ill be checking timing and whatnot so we shall see -
