Pp Agreed, except I wish I got to it when it looked like that...in my case the center hub was free from the rubber ring and the outer part was moving back and forth about a quarter of an inch -

Seal is press fit and if you do it right you don't even touch the cover when you install it. Plus seals wear out so this is worth the effort to replace while is all apart. If the truck makes it to 200k ill do the chain....right now it just needs to make it to the train station -
1989 comanche ax15 bleed clutch?
SouthShore440 replied to bthomps875's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
? clutch ... no bleeding required, just pump it up. its not like your brake system. -

i would find a better vehicle to work on. when they need that much metal repair it just is not worth the time. you can find reasonably solid drivers for around 2000 or less.

in my chevy someone busted the slider and driver side pane in a failed attempt to steal my truck. i replaced with 3/16 plexiglass and its been good since. hold the material up to the window frame you are looking to fill. trace the part and add to the perimeter for the gasket/window channel. also i have never seen a comanche with a double slider. nice to have.

real easy for those who need to change it. all you have to do is take off the belt, use a puller to remove it and the special installer to get it back on. might as well do the seal while you have it off. service manual said to pull the bumper and fan, but you don't have to there is plenty of room to do it as-is. if you have high mileage or your jeep is old, i would check your balancer. the rubber isolator on mine was rock solid and it actually separated the out shell from the inner hub.

sometimes the flex line goes bad and gets acts like a 1 way valve. slowly it will bleed off and then as you apply brakes it they will start to freeze up again.

180K and everything starts falling apart!
SouthShore440 replied to SouthShore440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
agree, all basic stuff, just all happening at once have had the truck for 10 years now, so not complaining that it needs the work, just complaining that i have to do it! at least i get to buy some tools i didnt have before...just picked up the balancer installer. -
:wrench: its amazing this truck (97 cherokee) went to 180K with literally only oil changes, brakes and tires, now little by little its starting fall apart. i guess its just catching up with me. all basic repair items, but lately its been more fixing than driving. here is the list and where it started - ac compressor around 150K - radiator 160K - water pump 160K - t-stat 160K - rear shocks (of course the rear bolts broke in the frame rail) 170K - clutch fan 180K - elect fan, relay and fuse 180K - t-stat again 180K next on the list - crank harmonic balancer - front shocks - exhaust (believe it or not 100% original even the muffler) ok just had to vent...hopefully a few more things and i'll be good for a while. anyone else experience this?

I changed the thermostat today and problem solved. I guess the old one was defective because out was only two years old. -

Interesting....that is what is doing. It needed the fans because both broke (clutch bearing went on the manual and electric motor fried on the other.it was driving fine before though so I hope its just the thermostat. -

yes yes and yes I did the rad and water pump maybe ten thousand miles ago and only started having issues over the winter. I will check the belt routing though as I recently had it off to do the fan clutch. -
