  1. If you don't eat your Meat!
  2. I bought this Comanche when i was 16 in 1996 it was my first truck. Its a 1989 short bed, 2wd, 2.5, 5 speed. I abused this truck pretty good the years i drove it. it had been sitting since 2001 needing lots of repairs but i couldent get rid of it because of sentimental value so i started work on it... Image Not Found this is the truck when i first got it Image Not Found here it is as i started work on it, it was about 10 different colors Image Not Found This is it now after POR15, spray paint, and herculineer Image Not Found Image Not Found I bought a '89 4x4 parts XJ to convert it to 4wd and i plan on lifting it about 3" and putting 31" tires on it. Now that its coming along I'm really glad i dident let it sit in my yard and rust, or have the junkyard come get it!
  3. I'm doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion on a 89 comanche with a 89 cherokee axle. the brakes did change in 91. i just bought new calipers before my swap began so i hope mine work with the 4wd axle. advance auto parts don't show different part numbers for 2wd/4wd for 89 year
  4. I have been weighing my options i think i will go for a 3-3.5" lift and run 31's. the rusty 3" kit has nice price but i think i will get some RE 3.5" coils and then get some full length AAL's for the rear then later get some new adjustable LCA's. Who makes the best Add A Leafs?
  5. This guy on ebay is selling a 5" Comanche lift kit says it drives great... it dosent say anything about control arms at all! the LCA's have to be hitting the coil/shock mount. anyone on here used this kit? its only $459.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Com ... enameZWDVW
  6. Coils are a PITA :headpop: I don't want to drag this thread on forever but.... this truck will only see maybe a 15 mile raidus from my house and it won't be used all that much. just when i need to haul my atv or haul something in the bed and local trails. i know about death wobble my friends TJ had it. i don't want to endanger anyones lives on the road just to fit some bigger tires on it relativly cheaply. So i guess this means I'm going to have to buy adjustable uppers $200, Coils $175, and long arms $300 just to fit some 33's on a $300 truck lol ..... Jeep should have stayed with Leaf springs  and btw i am a welder/fabricator so leaves are looking like a good option right now
  7. So if i go with 4.5-5" coils with a 1 inch spacer i can't just use adjustable lower control arms i have to go long arm or Radius arm? maybe i will convert it to leaf springs. ^I don't know wtf happend but my other post got messed up i dident even type that except for the quote^
  8. It's to maintain steering alignment and to avoid death wobble. Death wobble, by the way, is a good thing to avoid whenever possible. Ask anyone who has experienced it ...
  9. I just now seen on RE's website there 5" MJ spring over kit comes with 4.5" ZJ coils and a 2" spacer. but the XJ 5.5" kit comes with just 4.5" ZJ coils... this is getting confusing
  10. I would rather have stiffer springs on it anyways my friend has soft coils on his TJ and it feels like jello I don’t like it. I don’t plan on doing any hard offroading or rock crawling with the MJ that’s what my YJ is for. I don’t have much money to spend on this Comanche and I want to make sure I spend it wisely; I don’t want to do things twice! So I'm trying to gather all the info I can I'm open to any and all opinions. Here’s my plans if anyone thinks I should do something differently let me know Front: 5.5 ZJ Coils Adjustable LCA's all from Rubicon Express DT3000 shocks (sleeved track bar for now) Rear: Mopar Spring perches sprung over (2wd leaf packs) DT3000 shocks As for the transmission I have a 1999 4wd AX5 that lost reverse gear. I am going to See if I can fix it with parts from my current 2wd AX5. Anyone ever converted a 2wd AX5 with a 4wd main shaft and a tail housing? Seems like it would work I will be finding out.
  11. OK i have a 1989 2wd short bed I'm working on converting it to 4wd. I'm about to start lifting it. I will be springing the rear over and i want to make sure i get coils that will make it sit level. I hear the 4wd trucks sit higher than the 2wd but the leafsprings have the same jeep part number from what i have seen online? So should i go for 4.5" XJ coils or 4.5 ZJ coils ( ZJ coils sit 1" higher right?) I'm going to be buying parts from Rubicon Express. And will 34x10.50 super swampers clear control arms ok on stock wheels?
  12. I'm going to be working on my bed rust soon. I bought a 89 2 door parts cherokee for $150. i cut the upper rear wheel well sheetmetal out before i scraped it. i plan on welding it in, it seems like its going to fit well. I made a 2x5 tube bumper for it this weekend. maybe next weekend i will get the bed patched up and take some pix of it
  13. I might try making my own out of 3x4" 1/4 wall square tube. the control arm bushings are 2-1/2" wide so it will be a perfect fit inside the 3" tube. they sit at about a 80* angle on the axle tube so i guess i will tilt the table on my drill press and try to drill the corner off the steel tube and hope it don't bind up and launch the piece across my garage.
  14. its the mounts on the axle not on the frame. I have been searching the internet and i think i might just buy a set of rustys offroad mounts and weld some heavy washers on the sides and use the orignal bolts (not cam bolts). If anyone has has used them and could post there experience good or bad with the quality i would be greatful before i give rusty my money.
  15. I'm converting my 2wd comanche to 4wd i got a axle out of a XJ but the lower control arm mounts are bent up. I see that rubicon express and rustysoffroad sells them but you have to use expensive cam bolts with rustys and the quality is questionable and RE's are just to expensive! has anyone made there own LCA mounts? or know of any online writeups about building some? they seem easy enough to make except for the angle the mounts sit at on the tube.
  16. i need to adjust my idle, it idles low but when i give it gas so it runs without sputtering its right around 700-800 thats about right. the gauges were a factory option so i would think everything should read correctly. the 1 thing i wonderd about was if the gas was going to read right because the gastank/sender is the only thing thats not the same as the cherokee. i guess when i fill it up with gas i will find out
  17. you just need to tell them you need the sending unit (NOT SENSOR) for GAUGES not the light they will probably ask you. these are the parts from advance autoparts GP Sorensen Temperature Sender/Switch w/Gauge Part No.TSU13 $22.44 GP Sorensen Oil Pressure Switch With Gauge Part No.OPS68 $17.48 the temp sending unit is on the drivers side of the engine way in the back sticking stright up next to the valve cover it should only have 1 wire going to it the oil sender is to the right of the distributer on the 2.5
  18. i just done my swap today.... my tach seems to read correctly but then again i never had a 4cyl with a tach so i don't know. my volt gauge reads perfect my temp gauge works fine my gas gauge seems to work fine. but I'm not sure if my oil presure gauge is working right (don't seem to move at all when i rev it up). maybe someone else thats had there gauges for awhile will post soon
  19. i figured out my problem and deleated my other post it was corrosion on the fuse blades..... my cluster was out of a 4.0 cherokee and works just fine *Now* in my 2.5 comanche. i used the sensors from the 4.0 on my 2.5
  20. lol i just started a new topic about this.... i crossreferanced the sending unit part numbers on www.partsamerica.com and the part numbers are the same on my 89 2.5 and 89 4.0. i swaped them but its still not working. i think i might have a bigger problem
  21. Hey man could you snag me a set of taillights?
  22. i have 31x10.50's on my 2wd Comanche on stock rims they fit in the rear fine but the rub the frame in the rear bad on stock rims when articulated . i can't even take it offroad
  23. I striped the heads out of the torx bolts trying to get mine out. I’m interested in hearing how other people got there doors off too
  24. its the smaller section for $62
  25. Ok i got some pix of the pan i layed it in there to give you an idea of what it will cover i cut most of the rust out in this pic this is my hole Image Not Found this is the new pan Image Not Found this is how far back the pan goes a little past the front seat bracket Image Not Found and a pic of the floor pan Image Not Found[/img]
