Mine is an 89 2wd (oh how I wish it was a 4wd)
-
thanks much, I'll have to get outside and put a measurin' stick across it and see what I have to work with. My original thoughts were to lift the front to match the rear, but I need to know where I am to know where I'm going.
-
anyone know the stock measurements for front and rear? ground to fender flare or center of rim to fender flare?
-
I found recipts in my MJ when I bought it showing that the rear leaf packs had been replaced, but with very little in the way of details. To me it looks like the PO might have had replace the rear with different springs. I do know that I am running 235/75-15's in place of the stock tires. Maybe this was the beginnings of a lift? Anyhow, to me it looks like the stance is pretty far off level. Any thoughts?

I'll have to look into a stripe eraser, sounds like it would do a good job removing the Eliminator graphics as well.

I would start by checking the charging system. If you don't have enough power because of a bad alternator it could cause the problem you are seeing. Does your MJ have a volts gauge or just a fault light? What readings (voltage wise) do you get across the battery terminals with the truck running and off? Do you have aftermarket stuff installed that might be drawing power even with the truck off? (for example: A friend had an under hood light that the switch failed in the on position, it stayed on at all times and repetedly killed his battery till he figured it out. Funny thing, he never thought to check because he only saw it on while the hood was open, like it was supposed to be. Like wondering if the refriderator light is still on when the door is closed.) Another possibillity is that you have more than one problem, but lets look at the power issue first. Edit: By the way, welcome to the board.

Sweet, i'll pick up some on the way home and try it this weekend. (After it's done snowing, stupid weather)

A quick question for you knowledgeable folks. The PO decided to put bumper stickers on the back of my Jeep, right on the paint instead of the bumper or the back widow. :fs1: Anyone have experience with some of the various removers, solvents, techniques, and/or swear words involved in removing them without destroying the paint? I have enough rust problems as it is without asking for more. Thanks, Brad

Found one on a wrecked '97 XJ someone was parting out on craigslist. Not bad, $40 for a hitch less than a year old. Hell, the part number sticker hadn't even fallen off yet. Too bad I didn't see the ad sooner, I would have bought the whole wreck from him. He had already had sold all the stuff I could have used to do a '97+ front end swap and a 4X2 to 4X4 conversion on my MJ. :( Boy would that have made my wife happy, me spending the next couple weeks in the garage working on both my Jeeps. :shake:

Oh damn, I can so picture that all set up as a two bunk camper on the inside. It would make an awesome conversation piece next to all the lookalike aluminum boxes at the campground.

Cool, I didn't know that. So then this on is a '90 (tenth digit L) right?

Yesterday at like two in the afternoon I am going about my normal routine. Right about then it involved giving my daughter a ride to work. We run through the thunderstorm to get to my XJ, jump in and... squish. Wait a minute, why does it feel like I just sat on a wet sponge? :???: Oh, thats just the seat. Look at all the windows, nothing left down. That when the first of many drips bounced off my steering column and all over my lap. Wonderful. My windshield seal looks to be leaking. :fs1: So I give the wife a call and ask folks to clear the driveway so I can pull into the garage, stop at the store and grab some sealant, and head back to the house. So much for my relaxing Sunday afternoon. Once I get it home and get the trim pulled I get to cleaning. That when I get my brilliant idea. You see, when I bought my XJ it already had a bit of rust on the roof, just back from the windshield. Nothing that looked too horrible mind you, just three or four patches the size of my palm that were rusted with no paiint, and a couple even smaller ones where the paint had bubbled up. In my infinate wisdom I decided that since I would already have the trim off, and already be cleaning up the area for putting down the sealer, I would go ahead and wire wheel the majority of the rust off, prime it, and paint it with some rustoleum to keep it from getting any worse 'till I could get time to sand it back off and do it right. Really, it's a good thing I did. Remember those two bubbled up patches? Well, there wasn't a damn thing there but blistered paint and powdered rust. Two holes in my roof, each about the size of a quarter. Just what everyone wants to see on a rainy Sunday afternoon right? So, looking at the clock and knowing I had all of about 13 hours before I had to be driving it to work I kinda cheated. I blasted everything clean with electronics cleaner, since it evaporates crazy fast. Then I filled the holes. With Great Stuff. :wrench: Waited a while for that to dry, then cut it off flush with a knife. Once that was done I hit it with a thin layer of bondo to seal in the great stuff, a couple coats of primer, and a couple coats of paint. In the end it still needs work, but looks a damn sight better than the rust patches I set out to fix in the first place. Not to mention, it won't be raining inside the Jeep next time it's raining outside.

Well, I was at the JY this weeend getting parts for both my Jeeps and I came across an MJ. I was already out of time and had to get home, so all I had time to do was grab the VIN. If someone could run a build sheet for me (or at least give me a year) I will get it listed. 1J7F2617KL530470 From the really quick look I was able to get it's (probably) '89 long bed, 4wd, bench seat, silver or grey, pretty sure it was a pioneer. It had been picked over pretty good, but did have a decent aluminum camper top and bed mat.

Looking for a class 3 reciever hitch that will fit a 94 cherokee somewhere in my neighborhood. I know I would rather give my money to one of you fine folks than to the JY if one of you has one laying around. A set of the reinforcements (nut strips) would be nice to find as well, save me some fab work making a pair.

Never mind, I found a good diagram.

Hell, my front bumper is one of the only undamaged parts on the truck :shake:

Good morning folks, It seems I have myself a bit of an issue with my DD (a '94 XJ) The blower motor speed selector switch kinda died. Not the end of the world, a couple bucks for a switch and yahoo. Where I ran into an issue is the plastic houseing holding the wires going to the switch basicly disintegrated when I pulled it off the old switch. :fs1: Anyone have a picture handy of which wire goes where on the back of the switch? (wires and the female blade connectors are fine, and I don't have a replacement pigtail till my next trip to the JY) I suppose I could pull the dash cover on my MJ and look, thats the plan if no one has the info. Just figured I would ask first. Evry time I take something apart theare is always the chance for things to go wrong, and I don't want to hurt my MJ. :D

Woo Hoo! two weeks of working on it most every day after work and my rescued from behind the barn XJ is running and ready to roll. Now if the    DMV was open over the weekend I could get plates for it.

WANTED: JCR LWB ROCKSLIDERS AND REAR BUMPER, IL/WI BORDER.
Dechion replied to Automan2164's topic in Wanted
Seems that I am kinda right in between you two, and it just so happens I have both a 220 arc welder and a 110 MIG welder sitting in the garage. Then again, the garage is full of a project XJ that looks like it vomited parts all over the place at the moment. Once it's done (hopefully soonish, I need my garage back) and it warms up a bit though, maybe we can work something out. -
Thanks much. I'll be looking into one similar to this once my camper top sells (assuming it does)

For what it's worth (likely not much) in terms of tires and such, I am running 235/75/15's on my 4X2 MJ up here in Wisconsin. They fit in the wheelwells, are cheaper than the 31's, and handle the snow just fine. Biggest thing I would reccomend is putting some weight in the bed once it starts getting nasty. Yes, I know, not the answer to your question about a 4X4 swap, but it is at least somewhat on topic.

Awesome looking top. Unfortunately I can't find anyone that still carries it. I tried googling by part number, have yet to try le bra's website. It's blocked from work, probably because it has bra in the title.

There are a couple MJ's at trhe Pick-N-Pull in Ill, and probably a good 7 or 8 XJ's as well. There were three good tail lights, no skid plates that I remember, and several center consoles in various stages of goodness.

Realized my teenagers are going to be driving it for the next three years. :( Put my all my (non safety related) projects on hold till they are 18 and done. Was less than happy when I realized that also means selling my camper top and putting on a tonneau instead. :ack:

89 Eliminator "The Rust Bucket"
Dechion replied to Dechion's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well, looks like "project rustbucket" is going to be sidelined for a rew years. :( My wife you see, she uses this stuff called "logic" to make me want to do things her way. Seriously, she is right more often than not. Anyhow, as some of you might already know my daughter totaled the family car a while back. Lost control in the fresh snow, hit a pole, yadda yadda. (yes, she's fine) Ove the next several weeks while I was shopping for a replacement vehicle for her to drive things got kind of annoying. With only one vehicle that can actually carry all five of us much car shuffleling happened to make sure the right person had the vehicle with the right ammount of seats and such. Well, I picked up a '94 XJ two door 4WD that needed drug home on a flatbed and repaired. Yesterday I got it running again, now I just need brakes and it's good to go. So, as I am talkling to my wife last night she points out how annoying the whole car shuffle thing has been, and how she is glad that it's all about to go back to normal. Then she drops the bomb. My MJ, my project, should be the vehicle driven by the teenagers for the following reasons: 1. If they damage it we are out a vehicle that is a two seater, not a family car. 2. Of all three it gets the worst gas milage, so driving it the shortest distance makes sense. 3. Letting the teenagers drive the van is just a bad idea... I know, I drove one back when I was a teenager. 4. The XJ already has a reciever hitch, and being 4WD would be a better choice for me dragging my boat back up slimy launch ramps. 5. The XJ is a stick, and none of the kids know how to drive one. (I will be teaching them, but they don't have a clue at the moment) 6. Even though my wife knows how to drive a stick she needs an automatic to drive, since her right shoulder is messed up. (Rotator cuff surgury next week) Darn her pasky logic. :smart: At least she is not planning on me getting rid of it. I will still be able to do a few things to it, and it will still be around. In fact, in terms of making a toy out of it this is good news. Once the teens turn 18 and get thier own wheels it will be the third car, and I can turn around and install all the good stuff I will be gathering over the next few years. Plus I do still get to drive it. The biggest downside is that I am going to end up having to get rid of the camper top that JeepcoMJ was kind enough to sell me and replace it with a tonneau cover, so the kids can actually see while driving. (better odds of them not crashing my truck while I wait to get it back full time) I'd store it if I could, but I really have no place to put it. :fs1: Life moves on I suppose.
