  1. I may also undercoat the inside of the bumper regardless of how it comes, to give it some added protection from rust out when it catches everything that tends to sit inside the bumper before it gets cleaned out
  2. Awesome, mine needs it for sure, high is slower than normal, plus I want to add an intermittent relay
  3. And your right, not a lot of anything pops up for the 86
  4. Not sure, it's going to be exploratory surgery lol, I may reuse modify original or fab up from scratch
  5. Wahoo, sitting down and perusing my new to me oem electrical manual while enjoying a nice bowl of spicy hot deer Chili
  6. All of it will have plenty of time to ponder, I'm going to keep updating and repairing the MJ for the next year, but won't get into serious changes until after my other project gets closer to finishing, 83 CJ7 "Franken-J" project 350 Vortec custom build.
  7. yeah.....that's a big no for me, thanks for the info though, I personally don't see the value in swapping to one of those just because they interchange, more power and reliability, in my opinion-no longevity, worked on too many of them over the years as a tech, to me, the payoff doesn't equal the cost and work. I want something that has the power if needed, pulling, hauling light off road, nothing extreme. I'm also considering a Amc 304, Buick 350, Buick because Distributor is in front and readily available bellhousing to Chevy trans adapter. Maybe a Dodge 318 Dakota 4x4 donor.
  8. My factory bumper is probably repairable, and will not be keeping it.
  9. So, did some work on the carb, found out long metal pinched vacuum metal tube was just shoved over the air mixture adjustment screw, adjusted it better, also took care of one vacuum leak, a few other vacuum hose in extreme desperate need of replacement, but starts and idles a whole lot better already, looks lie just some work on current carb will suffice, didn't want to dump a lot of $$ in the 2.8 anyway. Have a lot of cleanup under the hood wires vacuums still to go. Ordered a new Fey rear bumper today. Thinking about going to another V6 swap when everything else is sorted. 4.3 Chevy Vortec Chevy 5 speed and TC. thinking also a 9.25 rear, 3:73 gears. Either stand alone TB or carb and HEI.
  10. nice...nice truck
  11. Front bumper will get a repaint and square replacement foglights, also gotta wire up the sport bar lights
  12. maybe, Summit didn't have them, would have to either order through Summit from the manufacture or direct. I'm going to see what I need after removal of bumper, I may already have what I need.
  13. Thanks guys!
  14. Just ordered the black diamond plate Fey from Summit racing for $208 shipped to the door, might even arrive tomorrow
  15. thanks, bookmarked it, looks like a good replacement.
  16. guess I'm bone yard hunting
  17. I got this on Fey's site... Sorry, there are currently no products to display in this category that fit your 1986 Jeep Comanche plus I'm a cheap bastage, 4-500 bucks ain't happening
  18. I know another rear bumper thread, what are good replacement bumpers, particularly step style with the little diamond plate design on top bumper sources? They can be Ranger, S1- Cherokee Dakota I don't care as long as looks similar and the fit is right, I'm not worried about mounting, I can fab/weld that. p.s. not a fan of the Gladiator rear bumper swap. New vendor or used, don't care. Mines been hit pretty hard. I've looked at Craigslist and marketplace in my area. something like this....
  19. I'll address 2 of the topics, wheels, I'd stick with 15's not a fan of modern wheel look on the Comanche, would look ok on a Cherokee...I know, almost the same thing, just something about the Comanche looks better with oem or retro wagon style wheels. But wheel "looks" is subjective to what the owner likes. Second, the Jack, the bottle jack that came with them I'm not a fan of, I prefer a scissors jack, and I always source one from a late 80's early 90's Silverado, they're plenty strong enough and lift high enough even with a slight lift and I feel secure with them as they were designed to lift, well a Silverado. They don't take up much space, would fit nicely behind either seating area. In fact, it might be blasphemous to alter a mostly complete oem, Comanche but I'll probably replace mine with a scissor jack just like I did all my Jeeps, should be plenty of XJ jacks available though.
