i seriously need help with the pigtail between the dash and the body.. remember its 96 so http://comancheclub.com/topic/18588-xj-dash-harness-to-rear-mj-harness-wiring-guides/ this doesn't help. -
I'm trying to make a pigtail between the dash of a 96 xj to the rear harness for my mj i have already read http://comancheclub.com/topic/18588-xj-dash-harness-to-rear-mj-harness-wiring-guides/ from front to back HERE'S MY PROBLEM... i don't have the same connections as the ones he does (I'm assuming because i have the bastard year of the 96) i can't find anything about the pin labels on theses things. they're also 16 pins but their bigger THANK YOU in advance

Dash And Wiring Harness Questions
bottomline89 replied to bottomline89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I bought a complete and running 96 XJ so the 97 + dash would just be extra $$$ besides, i really like the dash setup i have right now, the reason that I'm swapping the dash is my MJ's dash is cracked and rotted and the XJ's is in great condition. the PO really did a number on the wiring harness.. i.e. one of the marker lights had a socket that was completely different hot glued to the back of the housing.. so that may tell you something. i myself had to completely bypass the stock stereo harness and lay all new wires for everything, including the ground because he decided that he was going to "FIX" that in a similar fashion.. bottom line, i'm sick of running into his versions of "FIXING" things all over my truck, so a harness out of an XJ that was a two owner vehicle both owners in the family that i know and one was an old man that babied the jeep back and forth from golf and the local walmart, sounds like a better route not to say newer is always better.. sometimes its the only option that will alow you to keep your sanity -
Dash And Wiring Harness Questions

thanks, i'll try that when i get back to it. I want to do a complete HO swap because the PO thrashed the renix harness.. -
I haven't posted a while but here's what's going on... My 89 Mj just got herself a friend. a 96 XJ, aw4, chr. 8.25, dana 30 I'm taking the HO out of the 96 found an ax-15 in a local salvage yard I have some questions and any extra info would be GREAT! I have NO IDEA how to get this dash off.. Things i have an idea about: I can get the cluster out. Are the engine bay harness and dash harness actually separate? and i guess this aint a question but.. i'd like to reiterate the fact that I'm AN IDIOT WHEN IT INVOLVES ANY WIRING OR ELECRICITY! Thank you for the help in advance

ok. i put a new starter and starter relay in it last night. does anyone know if the little black box on the ignition wire by the starter has anything to do with it?
-
I can get it to start if i give it a little gas and i have to keep my foot on the petal and keep giving it gas.. it runs smooth as long as i keep it running.. but the starter wants to randomly engage while the key's set to "run" i'm going to look at it a little bit more myself. Thanks in advance

Jeep waves and a bunch of the regular questions/comments like "jeep made a truck?" Or "my uncle/dad/grandpa had one of those.. he loved it." "They were good little trucks" And the J.E.E.P. syndrome (just empty every pocket)

Yay :jump:

Does that mean I have to move the perches outward when I go from the Cherokee to my comanche?
-
Just got my hands on a 96 cherokee. it's got a chrysler 8.25 rear axle and either an ax5 or an ax15 transmission. This is going to be my 4x4 donor for my 2wd 89 manche. Any comments? What issues am i going to run into ? i know i'm going to have to make my rear axle an soa to make it work in the cherokee because i want the cherokee to run so i can resell it.. and i know i'm going to have to get my driveshafts done. anything else? or any hard parts that you've run into doing a 4x4 conversion? thanks in advance

What gears/axles do you have for the 35's? Do you have any power difference? What transmission? Love the look! small wheels and lots of tires
-
what about going to a 44 in the front?
-
do you have a question. it seems like this should be on a build page more than the tech section.. i did this on my 89 and it didn't do any good cuz i was ignorant enought to just assume that the head was good. then come to find out after a bought a new motor that my head and block was cracked.. idiot before me probably let it get too hot and i found out that my head with a certain molding number is notorious for cracking.. Impressive work on cleaning up that block tho. looks good :D
-
ok. so if i "beef up" the dana 30 and treat it nicely i'd be good with 35's?
-
mainly DD but i checked ks laws and the lift is legal and i'm getting wheels with a four inch back space mudding a couple weekends in a month flex like hell basically i want way to much for what i'm doing. i'm not going to push my axles to any limits but i'm not going cheap. i want a badass high school truck that i can get muddy.. but i want it to be mechanically stable and not a STUPID high school kids "block lifted chevy" (what we call a truck with a cheap lift and slightly over sized tires that tends to throw u-joints and slip gears cuz the idiot didn't do anything to improve it mechanically)
-
end goal: 8" long arm kit, 35" wrangler mt/r w/ Kevlar, 4.88 gears and i haven't decided on lockers because i'm getting it just big enough to be a great rig for what i do but i can still use as a DD

perches and mounts

ok. thanks guys. i was just wondering because they looked like pretty good axles for a good price. are there any full size axles that work in mj's with a little modifications?
-
Quick question.. can i do anything with these? http://wichita.craigslist.org/pts/3187108936.html
-
ok. but soa on the rear isn't going to give me 8" , even tho i'm doing the soa anyways, i'd rather get new leafs while i'm at it.. and i don't want to sacrifice too much flex in the rear
-
I'm 16 now. i started this thread when i was 15.. and final product is going to be 4.88 gears and 35's, haven't decided what lockers yet, on either 8" or 6.5" long arm lift. OD green and bed liner across the bottom with black baja style wheels and rusty's fender flares
