  1. It sounds like he is talking about the idle speed control motor and it is attached to the front of the throttle body. As you stand in front of the jeep and look at the motor/throttle body it is the one one the left, held inplace with 2 torx screws and has one wire connector. When mine went bad it kept the engine reving at 2800 rpm's. I pulled mine out and it had alot of crud around the shaft that stopped it from moving. I bought a new one and it runs great now. Ithink the new one was around $40-50.
  2. Sorry for the deviation, just went with the flow. thanks for the tips and hope to find the right column. As for the speedo cable there is no clip to press/squeeze to release it, just one round plastic coupler fitting over the speedo "nipple".
  3. I can't remember which ones had the columns but they ranged from 1988 to 1996. Also, I tried to remove the gauge cluster this weekend but I could not find any tab to press and release the white plastic coupler. Is there another way?
  4. Thanks to all for the info. I will make the trip this weekend. Will the year of the new column matter?
  5. Yes, it is a laredo and the column is black and I think what you call a 2 spoke wheel and looks very basic. The interior is gray. I have the wiring and switch laready installed for the cargo light but no light fixture. Does anyone know where to get one? On the upper firewall between the engine and heater fan there is a control with a cable coing to the throttle body and I loked in the haynes manual and it shows it as part of the Cruise control. There is also a yellow electronic part conected to the lower dash panel below the steering column. I was at a junk/salvage yard friday and they had 2 comanche's (most parts gone already) and 5-10 cherokee's. I remember a few had a tilt column with cruise and intermittent wipers so I'll have to go back again. I didn't think comanche's had intermitent wipers. Is there much call/requests for the black "brush gaurd"? There was one of those there also.
  6. The seller finally admitted that his was a 4 panel so I passed on it. I have found two 3 panels, with locking clips intact, since then but one is missing the rubber moulding. I also found a junk/salvage yard that had 2 comanche's and a few cherokee's and got a few of the digital clocks, visor clips, hood prop clip, and antenna mast. All of the ones with bucket seats were missing the seat back levers. Is there somewhere that you can usae your vin number and see what options or accessories the vehicle was made/shipped with? The laredo that I have has a plain black steering column with no upgrades. While working on it yesterday, I found that it has a few parts under the hood and dash for cruise control. So now I want to find outif it had cruise and maybe intermittent wipers. I am wondering if the idiot P/O maybe swapped out the steering column along with the hack jobs on the wiring?
  7. I had an 88 pioneer long box years back and they had the standard black front bumper. The 88 laredo that I recently bought has the chrome front bumper with the black bumpers as in that pic.
  8. Yes I am replacing the 3 lite because the lock is missing but I am keeping it a 3 lite. I found one for $50 near wausau, wi. Is there a way to change out the sliding portion only since the rest of the window is good? The one I bought has the sliding window latch attached and I am assuming that if I were to remove it and reglue it to the existing window it would not last, similar to reglueing the rear view mirrors.
  9. If it was a long box it might be worth another trip out to get it. If the baody is as rust free as the one I just bought out there when I got it back to WI it would sell pretty fast.
  10. I had placed a bid but the reserve was not met. He has now sent me a second chance offer with the same picture but says they are four panel. I don't think he knows what he has or is trying to pull a fast one. Since then i have found a used one at a salvage yard for $50 + $20 s+h. Should be at the house when I get there this afternoon. Does anyone have the latch hardware for the 3 panel? If the one i bought is as good as they described, I will use it and the one I have will be available.
  11. I bought the my 88 from a guy in Carson city and tried to have a car hauler pick it up but tat was a lost cause. If they could get someone to agree, it was suppose to cost a total of $865 but no carrier would touch it. The Reno area is too far out of their normal route. The carriers that would go the extra miles that way wanted $1200 or more. If you plan ahead and have the time the airfare is not too bad. When I first bought it and was looking 1.5-2 weeks ahead I could go from Chicago to Reno for $105 but after the problems with the car haulers I paid $385 three days before flight. It was just under 2000 miles back but I got over 20 MPG the whole way. The 88 I bought has very little rust and no holes. There are a few small spots that the paint cracked and has some very minor rust starting and the roof has some rust comming through the paint but the body shops say that is very minor and easily stopable. The Nevada weather is good for no/little rust if cared for but it is murder on the clear coat.
  12. I messaged the guy and asked him if this was in fact the three piece and he says yes it is and that he also has the four piece available. He added the question to the ebay listing.
  13. I found this site that has quite a few parts for the comanche. They have oem and aftermarket fenders, headers, lights, etc. www.usautoparts.net This site has quite a few comanche parts and cherokee/comanche parts at very reasonable prices. www.teamcherokee.com
  14. Automan: pm sent. I am in Niles now and then onto WI. later this am.
  15. I agree with automan about the water (mixed with anifreeze in this case) circulates too fast and does not absorb enough heat from the block and what heat it does get is not cooled while in the radiator. The antifreeze was a decent green color for me to think it was mixed roughly 60/40. I checked that link for the manual and found that it is the manual I just bought on Ebay for $55 but it does not give a real detailed view of the wires for the radio connector. If anyone is looking for that manual for an 86, I have one of those also.
  16. I am in Milwaukee on the northwest side. I found iton Ebay and flew out to Reno, NV. and the seller picked me up. I then drove it back from Carson City, NV, almost 2000 miles. When I got to Nebraska the weather was getting warmer and I had to slow down to 60 mph to prevent overheating. Last week I replaced the radiator and when I went to replace the thermostat I found out there wasn't one in there, thus the higher temp. There is no serious rust (holes/flaking) on it, only some surface rust coming through the roof paint and the underside/floor pans looking great. I was surprised that it got over 20 mpg on the trip and only went through 2 qts of oil. Seller posted it saying 120k but the odometer read 293k when I got there. Stated that he replaced it but as i am finding this one with the premium type gauges, and tripometer is hard to find.
  17. for the cost of shipping, that is a steal. I just went through the dealer in Milw. and paid $38 =tax for each.
  18. I just bought a 1988 Comanche Laredo off Ebay and found out the PO did a butcher job on the wiring. I would like to get the original, intact wiring harnesses for the engine compartment and under the dash. My Jeep is has the 4.0L L6 with a/c and 5 spd manual trans. but no c/c. I would also like to find a set of the clips that the sunvisors hookto in the center, atleast 4 of the plastic anchors that the grill screws go into, a good shifter boot with metal ring (the one under the console that screws to the floor), the digital clock that goes above the cig lighter. I guess another dream/wish is to find a wiring diagram for the 88 comanche. I have a haynes manual and their diagrams color codes do not match the wires In the dash to reattach a radio connector plug. Also the rear slider window, this one is there but the hardware is missing off of the slider portion. Then the plastic lever that connects to the pin for the seat back tilt on driverside bucket seat, my interior is gey but any color will do I guess.
