Dana 44 ID - Open or LS and other questions
Dammerung replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, that’s what I thought. My old man was arguing about the fact that “Since it’s 4WD, the rear HAS to have a limited slip otherwise it isn’t 4WD!” 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
Just pulled off the diff cover today to see what’s going on in the 44 and I’m not sure what I’ve got. I personally think it’s an open diff, but I haven’t ever seen a D44 or any rear carrier like this in person before so I’m not entirely sure. Any help with this and any random codes I find on it would be greatly appreciated. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Managed to get a big haul from a guy out of Ripon. Pulled a factory Dana 44 for the Comanche (so no cutting :) ), a Dana 30 front, set of wheels and tires, 4wd transmission, front fender, radiator, full front header panel, and trans cooler lines for $350 The guy is also selling a full factory black interior panel set, gas tanks w/ the skid plate, and a free engine as well if anyone wants that. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Looking for a grey 4wd floor shifter bezel. I’m looking for just the grey surround, not the actual 4wd indicator plate. And I’m not talking about the 4wd + floor shifter combo console, just the 4wd shifter. Best picture I can find right now of one 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Can you guys find out if a Cherokee or Comanche has the tow package from the VIN? Or were they more like dealer add-ons after they’re out of the factory? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

I’m planning on using the 4wd components for my Comanche. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Lol, got to do something with the other one! It’s either that or do an interior swap and take the motor to build a stroker later on, and right now I personally don’t have the time to get into that. My old man, however, was into low riders and slick old cars - had a hand-built s10 he tricked out and lowered. He’s looking to get back into the scene again now that he’s close to retiring and figured he might as well burn money in doing a Cherokee that’d be butchered for parts and sent to the junk yard. He’s the reason I have Chevy drop shackles to be able to lift my rear end at all for the 4x4 swap - he bought them for the old 1500 he’d had before he had me. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Alright, so in the pursuit of a 4wd conversion, my Dad and I are looking to get a 4wd, convert it to 2WD, and drop it. But he wants airbag suspension. Anyone see any guides, how-to, or had personal experience? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

86 comanche Cherokee to comanche swap?
Dammerung replied to Wvmountandrifter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think you’ll need new mounts and depending on the time when your 86 was made, the rear firewall may need to be modified. I’m not sure about how the transmissions bolt up or which transmissions came with a 2.5 in 86 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
Project "It's a Jeep Thing" - Huntr's 87 MJ Build

Looks like someone ran radiator stop leak through it with those clogged channels. I’d probably go with rebuilding the engine you’ve got out, since it’s right there already 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
4wd Conversion: Whole Vehicle for Parts
Dammerung replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright good to know! I just wanted to ask because I’ve got potential access to 4 different cherokees from different years. There’s a 91 for 1500, a 92 for 500, an unknown one that my dads coworker is looking at, and finally another unknown one that I’m not sure about, but it’s being sold for 300. All I can tell is that it’s between 88 and 96. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -

If I get a newer transfer case with the electric speedometer system, is it possible to just drop in a mechanical speedometer gear and make it work? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -

How do I see the links? I’m using the iOS app -
Which year(s) of xj would be the best for a 4WD conversion? I know that there’s issues with the front axle pinion and CAD. I’m also wondering about the transfer case and transmission control, all of that. I know I can buy all of the stuff piece by piece, but I’d prefer to buy a whole xj/mj and convert without cutting into the electronics of my pickup. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Feels like wobble. When I brake lightly, it just vibrates, but if I brake heavily, it shakes the whole truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good News! The DW is fixed... mostly. Just went and had my gnarly old tires balanced for $50 and it accelerated up to 75 no problem. However, when braking, she likes to wobble. Could this be due to the brake rotors? I’m pretty sure they’re warped, because I can feel the pulsation whenever I brake. But I’m not sure if they directly correlate. I got my Comanche around a year and a half ago, when I was 16. I’d had a deep interest in cars from my dad, but no experience. I’ve used my MJ to teach myself how to work on cars. It will be a learning experience, better than any other you could have. With all the different people on here and all the experience and knowledge gathered, diagnosing and fixing your problems should be easy. Through the club, you can get just about anything done, especially with all the legendary old timers around like Cruiser, Eagle, and Pete. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Everything is stock. I just wanted to see if there was anything for a cheaper buy it all at once but I guess I’ll assemble it myself. But there shouldn’t be a difference for the length or mounting of the track bar, tie rod or anything like that if everything is stock, right?

Didn’t mean to put that there! Was just listing steering parts off the top of my head Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
