Well, it’s been a minute since I’ve been on this forum. I’ve looked through my Tapatalk app and this forum is just… missing from there, which is odd. Anyways, the state of California has determined that my vehicle was up to the smog chopping block and came out as a gross polluter. Failed CO hard, as well as NO. What’s the next step here? Anyone know the causes that are repairable?

My dad has been looking for an older car because we came into some money and he just wants something his style. He found a 32 ford roadster replica on this website called classicaholic. However, I think they’re fraudulent because the price and everything going on seems almost too good to be true. Does anyone have any experience or know anything about these guys?

Nice. My Comanche specific road trip was 8 hours roundtrip from central cal to the coast and back in one day, when we pulled my truck out of the junkyard it was being sold in. Keep in mind, a trip to the coast from where I live was 3.5 hours and we did that with a gas break and hauling an unloaded and Comanche-laden trailer to and from the coast, respectively. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

I’ve made quite a few long drives myself. Best thing to do is the breaks because you WILL need to take a leak and stretch your legs and going in a bottle and trying to stretch in your car just doesn’t compare to getting out and walking. Also make sure you don’t get too mesmerized by the road. It’s never been an issue for myself or anyone in my family, but I’ve known some people to get into near accidents because they get too comfortable behind the wheel and doze off. If you feel like you can’t make it, pull into a rest area. Snacks and drinks in a cooler are good too for when you’re thirsty but don’t want to stop. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

I personally think that’s just a crazy price (though I do understand it’s a 91) for an average stock vehicle. So you’re running 31’s with a 3 inch lift? Do you mind showing a side profile of yours? I’m looking to do something similar and I want to fully see what it looks like. And I also saw you’re running core 4x4 control arms. How do those work with the 31’s? Any rubbing? PS: Greetings from another Cali brother :) 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

I’m looking at some 3 inch lift kits, with Rusty’s and Rough Country being the 2 at the top so far due to their price. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about both. Anyone have anything to say about either of them? Many of the posts I saw were older, so have they changed since? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -

Reviving my thread because I’m trying to make a choice: cut some coils and install shackles for a 2 inch lift or just go all out and get the rusty add a leaf 3inch lift. I’ve got to put my Dana 44 in soon and I want to do this all at one time. So, anyone have pictures of 31’s on 2inches or 3 inches of lift? Some side profiles preferred, I wanna see how it sits from the side. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
My older brother just tested positive and he was vaccinated, but he hasn’t been vaccinated long enough to get the booster. He’s also in college and loves to go out to bars as well as work out in a gym every day, so he is constantly up close and personal with a lot of things. I’m pretty sure the vaccine helped reduce his symptoms to almost nothing, as he says he feels totally fine. In fact, I can hear him shrieking in his room right now over a video game. I think getting vaccinated is the way to go, if only to reduce the symptoms. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

It’s been cold around here at 50 degrees, and it was around 45, may be 40 degrees that time, but I don’t think that was enough to cause the issue but I’m not sure 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Just got the rear axle back from regearing. Also finished fully painting the thing. Now we just need to test the lines as well as find a ZJ distribution block. Also, does anyone know how many inches of lift I’ll need to be able to make this thing fit without cutting the drive shaft? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
A few days ago my truck decided that it was time for everything to work again after I had cleaned the terminal. I’m still afraid to drive it in case it does leave me stranded, but every time I go out it works. I don’t know what caused the issue while cranking, but it hasn’t come back. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Took the cable off of the battery terminal and cleaned both sides of the connection until they were shiny. After, my truck interior lights, headlights, etc all came back except my starter. Whenever I would turn the key to try and crank, all power would go. If I put it back into just the on position, power would come back. I think it might be the hot wire to the starter relay, but I’m not sure. On a related note, could I use the wire that comes attached to the battery cable to jump to the starter relay, or should I run an independent cable with a lower gauge? I think the wire is like 14 gauge, but I’m not sure. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Nope, nothing works. No interior or head lights, no starter, no blower, etc etc. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Yeah, I checked my battery with my meter and it read out 12.7 volts 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Just got into my Comanche this morning and turned the key to find out I had no power. As in, it looked like my battery was disconnected - no lights, no fuel pump priming, no click from the starter. I don’t really know what to do at this point. The only thing of note that I could think of is the fact that there’s corrosion on the end of the positive battery cable at the battery and a little at the starter, but that’s it. I replaced the battery cables when I got the Jeep 2 years ago. What is my next step? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

I’ve given some thought to eventually either taking the engine out of my Comanche and stroking it or buying another engine entirely and building it. However, I want to see some real world numbers that people have gotten with their builds - HP, torque, etc along with whatever build you have. Also if anyone has ever run a stroker with the Renix intake and smog, I’d be interested in what numbers you’re pulling. I’m in a very unforgiving state when it comes to engine mods, so something like removing the EGR is impossible. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Transmission Cooler Lines
Dammerung replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Done. Finally finished everything. And for anyone who stumbles upon this thread in the future, this cost me about $400 including the new radiator. I also had to it some stuff on the fly at a higher expense. The AN kit with hose and fittings cost me 60, the fittings for the trans were 15, the one fitting in the radiator was 8 but I accidentally bought 2, the external cooler was 35, and I had to use a quick disconnect to AN fitting which cost me 20 at O’reillys but would have cost about 12 if I’d ordered it online and waited. So if you just want to do just the lines, probably around $150 bucks at the most as a ballpark figure. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
Finally finished replacing my radiator, Trans oil cooler, and Condenser. Also replaced the nasty hard lines with AN hoses and fittings which haven’t leaked yet (knock on wood). The condenser literally had to be cut out of the Jeep because it was so rusted. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

Transmission Cooler Lines
Dammerung replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Started yesterday and found out the fitting I bought wouldn’t work, so I had to use a quick disconnect to AN adapter, which put me behind schedule for reassembly. The whole bottom of the radiator was nasty. That ATF managed to totally disolve the isolator by the power steering pump too, as you can see. (You can also see my new cooler in the 2nd pic) Rained last night before I got a picture of the bottom after I cleaned it. Should I paint it or just leave it be? 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -

I’ve decided to run a tube and fin cooler along with the radiator cooler. Better to be safe than sorry. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD -
