Yeah it’s not too bad. It looks different depending on how the light hits it. I’m going to re spray again this weekend with the lighter Argent shade if I can find it.

So here’s the dark argent from Duplicolor. Not sure how I feel about it… I might respray with the lighter argent. Looks like a little too much blue in there. At least that’s what it looks like depending on how the light hits it

Will do, I’m hoping to get some of it done this week.

New fogs and Bluetooth radio adapter
Rubikahn replied to Rubikahn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, I do. -
Swapped in factory fog light harness I sourced at a local JY, and got my fog lights in this morning. Have a short on the driver side directional though. Gonna end cutting out that receptacle and splicing in one that isn’t all rusty inside. Also picked up a Bluetooth cassette adapter at O’Reillys. It’s just hanging in the pic, but the Bluetooth receiver does have double sided tape for attachment. I don’t think it sounds all that bad. There is some static if no music is playing but once a song is on I think it sounds decent. I have new front speakers but the rears are original. I’ll be swapping those out soon. I realized last weekend I need to remove the entire panel just to get at them. What a lousy design 🤦♂️ Update: I’ve found I need to turn the radio off before shutting the truck off or else the phone won’t find the Bluetooth adapter after I start the truck again. Will update if I find any further glitches.

Anyone have a brand, part number, etc for an Argent color spray paint for the plastic front grille, marker, and running light trim? Been looking online cuz I thought duplicolor made one but can’t find it. PFA

Well I sourced a metal, I’m assuming it’s aluminum, 2.5L cover because I’ve read it seals better than the plastic cover. I couldn’t really tell you if the 87 was getting blow by in the air box because it had an intake tube with a cone filter on it when I bought it. I just figured if I’m cleaning it up to put on why not do the mod on it. If it doesn’t make a difference on the 2.5L then I won’t bother. As far as the hoses, there are two ports on it just like plastic cover. The rear port appears to be in the same spot. The front hose connection is on the side. So I’ll need to cut up some rubber tubing for that.

I recently did the 4.0 valve cover mod according to cruiser54’s write up. I also scored a metal 2.5L cover off a YJ last weekend that I’m going to clean up and install on my 87. Is it worthwhile to do the mod on the 2.5L cover as well or is this only beneficial on 4.0? Tia

April 30th?

Thank you, I did look at the write up on your website before I posted the question. It just didn’t seem clear to me. I already have one hole in each of those. Am I just widening the existing hole to 1/2”? Sorry, maybe it’s just me…

In the process of doing the valve cover mod and just wanted to confirm one last thing. Got the baffles measured out to be cut down 1”. The new 1/2” hole goes on the back side above the previous hole or on the side which will face towards the back of the valve cover? Thanks all

I’m up for whatever day as long as I know like two weeks in advance in case I need to request the day off.

So, I returned the two quarts I’d originally bought and grabbed a gallon of the Dex/Merc Cruiser54 suggested. Gonna do the trans at the same time.

Thanks guys, decided to go with the ATF. I picked up two quarts of ATF-4 at Walmart this morning.

Getting ready to change fluid, pinion seal, and rear diff cover soon. I’ve read that the recommended fluid to use in the 231 tc is ATF, but I’ve also seen 5W-30 Dino/synthetic motor oil mentioned. Anyone have any experience running 5W-30 in their 231? According to Novak Adapters some of their customers have run it with good results.

Restoring rocker panel switches

I’m going to be installing my new rocker panels and switches soon, thanks to ghetdjc300. The first panel I purchased I ordered with new switches. Unfortunately from what I understand there aren’t anymore NOS switches available. So I’m going to need to try and restore the finish on two of my existing switches for the second panel. I’ve searched and didn’t find much other than to not paint them. I did find a post surfing the web about someone who had used trim polish and buffing cone on their vent covers. Seems like it may be the same material? Anyone successfully bring these faded things back?

Ok, couldn’t really see it, lol. Ty
