I polished this rim, it looks awesome. Got two more to go.

I've been dealing with rust on the cab floor. When it rains I get water on the cab floor. This is an ongoing problem, and I'm at loss how the water is getting in. Hopefully this work will slow down the rust a bit. I cleaned the rust up a bit. Slapped a coat of petroleum jelly and a layer of fibreglass.

You get a bit concerned when you keep seeing old beater Mazda pick ups. Makes you wonder if they are better built than Comanches.

Just throwing in another perspective. I painted my truck with rust-o. I mixed black with blue to get the dark shade. I bought more paint than I needed, gallon of blue and a gallon of black. Get some mineral spirits to thin the paint. I thinned the paint quite a bit, almost thin like water. One good paint brush. Masking tape. I also bought a can of exterior clear (water based) stuff for wood. Unfortunately the final coat of clear sort of wrecked the paint job cause it didn't smooth out like the thinned rust-o. Just food for thought. :wrench: PS: make sure you put your grill back in the right way.

You've taped the signal flasher to the fuse box, cause once or twice a year your blinkers stop working.

Greased my leaf springs. That smoothed out the bumps a bit more. :peek:

After 514,000 kms (308k miles) I decided it was time to go to one of those quick lube places and get the power steering fluid changed and the rear diff fluid. Used a synthetic in the diff, that should be a bonus next winter. :wrench:

Ummm, nope. It's cloth. :waving: 2 screws up front and one screw at the back. I had to skill saw off about 6 inches of the original. The cool part is the 8 led's (Wal Mart) stuck on the green plexiglass which come on when the passenger doors opens.

Did several things today, Did an oil change and lube. Changed the o rings in the oil filter adapter. Lucked out with the hex, made the job easier. Had a issue with the exhaust pipe rattling on the transmission mount cross bar. A few washers and voila, no more rattles. Next, changed the wiper mechanism. The wiper arm was swinging right off the windshield. That took a few hours longer than I figured.

V=I x R My understanding is, the voltage is constant, (12v) therefore the current is halved (hence the dim lights) and the resistance of the lights is doubled being in series. :smart:

Broke my rear shock stud mount today. So, decided to hack the rest off. Drilled the biggest hole I could muster with what was available. Wrapped the bolt with some tape for a snug fit in the shocks rubber insulator. This temporary fix hopefully will last for a while. Today I also rewired my driving lights. They're to bright to drive around town so I hooked the two lights in series (24V) to dim them down. I'm guessing they will be dim like BMW's corona ring lights.

The POR15 paint job didn't survive the winter to well. . . Repainted the bumper with flat black. The dark spots are where the paint hasn't quite dried. . . Cleaned a spare carpet with a rug shampoo machine, scary how dirty the water was after cleaning it. . . Looking a lot beter now. .

Fram, that's Wal Mart's finest oil filter! I'm losing it, I missed the extra gasket. I sometimes wonder how my comanche made this far, :wrench:

Today I greased the nipples, replaced the rear bumper license plate light cover. Went to check the oil filter adapter to see what I need to replace the o rings. And this is what I saw, The oil filter gasket sticking out, Ummm, might be why I've been going through so much Mobil 1. I noticed also when I backed up the rear end squealed a bit, that can't be good.

I put my CB on the dash, just right of the steering wheel. (easy to see, easy to get at) I stick velco to the dash and CB. Voila. Ran the coax to passenger side up the window across to the back of the door and out, then back to the center rear of the cab where the antenna is. I've found that's the best place for the antenna. Had a whip on the rear bumper but the signal was poor. You can put some kind of dash cover over it all if you like. When I get home I might take a picture of the setup and post it. Here it is. I have mounted my CB on the cab roof near the windshield. Not the best if you've got bench seats and the guy in the middle isn't careful.

I got my last windshield from pick n pull. It was my first time changing one. Took quite a bit of effort getting the replacement one out. Cutting the sealant from the inside was the hardest part. The nice thing about doing it yourself is if your truck needs extra tlc that a window shop probably won't do. Took me two tries getting a proper seal on my jeep. All and all I'm glad I did myself.

Wouldn't go that far, but the factory paint job after 20+ years wasn't a pretty sight either.

Oops, I almost took the grill off a while back to make a cover to help heat up the rad. Now I've got more incentive, thanks.

Had to crank up the Comanche, at -30 celcius. Fortunately I have Mobil one synthetic oil, so it turned over and started pretty good. Unfortunately the tires were frozen with a flat spot ground side. Driving caused a thump thump thump for a few miles. Also there was a horrid scrap scrap scrap noise behind the instrument cluster. I thought at first it was something wrong with the front left wheel. When I hit the heater blower it squealed for a minute. Shifting into second was a grinding affair if it goes at all. All together it was quite the cacophony of sounds. The good news once the truck warmed up, all is well.

Bought the comanche with about 36,000 (miles) it now has 316,000. The only things I've changed on the engine are spark plugs, a few starter motors, one or two injectors, injector o-rings and a water pump, which turns out I didn't need to change.

My stock Comanche (less the cat) will get up to 120 kph (75mph) with still more to go. Because the Comanche starts rattling at that speed I haven't pushed to the limit. With about 510,000 kms (316,000 miles) on the original engine, it's doing pretty good. If I could peg the tach in 4th that be interesting to see the top speed.

I think, (which can be hazardous) I'd plug the original hole by taping the narrow hole and plug it with a bolt. Then redrill the hole above the original outlet and then thread it. Reattach original line. It's just an idea, chances of it working, I do not know.

Today I put some led's on the instrument panel, cauuuuuse the previous 2 accent led's for the floor that I put in, one of them shorted and lit up light a toaster element and nearly tourched my truck, and the 2nd just stopped working a week or later. Tragically the shorted led caused my instrument panel lights to stop working. After much troubleshooting I didn't get it fixed. I pulled the fuse box, instrument cluster and light switch to no avail. I'm figuring the wire from light switch to the ip fuse is the problem. Hopefully I'll eventually track the problem down. My motto, put a fuse in the circuit.
