MPGs CTY-16 & HWY-14 this normal ? ! ?
AMC-MJ replied to AMC-MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I haven't checked the compression but I can run it Hot or Cold with the oil cap off and feel no air nor see any smoke or steam rise out. Oil pressure I can't say as its got lights not gauges but the light pops on so I flip the key on and almost instantly goes off after start up. I replaced the TPS was told to set it at .8V n 5V I got it to .86V n 4.93V was as best I could get. Is this something that need to be readjusted / Reset from time to time ? Now as for the rest of the drive train, 2nd / 3rd / R howl n growl a bit have for a while now, Grinds shifting into 4th but once in 4th it cruised along smooth n quiet. Tho I have noticed its got a funny vibration last few day's started once weather warmed up. I kicked into neutral on a down hill, stayed the same as in gear now wouldn't a bad U-Joints made the vibration worse in neutral ? ! ? At least this is how I have always diagnosed them. The fill plug won't come out I fought that a while back n decided to leave it alone and run it. Maybe the trans is about ready to grenade ? ! ? Oh well . . . I guess I will just keep running it. Alright something is up with the lil'2.5er, I lose speed majorly in the hills last 2days now . . . Boggin down 7-12mph drop down into 3rd n get after it and it slowly recover's speed ! Hit the base of the hill/incline at 60mph n top it at 53mph@3rd gear or 48mph@4th gear with 700-900lbs in bed . . . Time was this thing could hit a hill at 72mph and top that hill at 65mph loaded@2K-Lbs ! ! ! I think my lil'AMC-150 I4 is finally getting tired its got 198K-Miles of Direct Drive operation, Spending its life cruising 2500-3000RPM's on HWY n 1900-2100RPM's in CTY. Its always humming along . . . Mike -

Its got 235/75R15s on it, I'm running 1/2 throttle doing 67.5mph@3000rpm. Oh I gets up an goes good rips 0-75 then fades off fairly quick. Yep O2 is new, TPS is new, MAP is new, Fuel system has less then 10K miles on it, and was Freshly tuned up with new ignition mod n coil pack. Timing chain ? I'm at 198K-miles, The records I got with it don't show it being changed in the past . . . Mike -

Ya I'm wondering if ol'2.5er is about worn out . . . Enough power to pull the city good but bucking the highway its straining a bit ? Type of deal ? ? Its in tune filters are new no vac leaks . . . Maybe it'll jump up some now that its warming up outside ? It was Re-geared from 3.55 to 3.73 by a Jeep dealership so the OB could tow his boat n lawn mower. Mike -
I had been mostly driving hwy's 45-65mph my AMC-2.5er been getting 14MPGs. Recently I been bummin around town last few weeks 15-35mph and its been getting 16MPGs. Is this Normal ? ! ? MJ-Configuration: Shortbed 2WD, AMC-2.5 / AX-4 4spd / D35-3.73s. Mike

 Boss lady wants to ditch her CryCo Mini-Van for a V8 Waggy  She misses her AMC-V8 SUV . . . I think an XJ-Cherokee would be better she wants what she wants ;) Currently my Jeeps are both pickup trucks Mike
-
 Bloody h+/ll I'm a woman :D I love the 2dr Wranglers Mike
-
The Durango/Grand "new" body's seem to jive perfectly for a grill/light swap . . . The G/C's grill mount on a Durango and Shazzam you got a Wagoneer with little no NEW parts needed very cost effective way to move MORE Durango bodies ;) Mike
-
It would be cool if they did it with the Vintage design, They wouldn't be liable for emissions just ship you a J/10 Honcho in a crate only options given are grill choices and stepside or standard side shortbed. Would be about all I'd see them doing, It'd have to be a "Sporty" type rig so be crated. Mike

Like the 67'-69' Camaro kit cars from GM or whoever, you buy a shell n chassie the rest is up to you ? They still doing those ? Mike
-
At least these platforms would bring some tradition back to Jeep. I think the New Wagoneer should be built on the above posted SUV, Then the New Jeep Truck off the above posted pickup. Jeep is getting to whimpy for my taste, The Wrangler is about the only "Jeep" left and its even quiet watered down . . . Leather & High tech interior . . . Some how the cushy plasticy fully electronic interior just dose NOT scream let's get muddy ;) Can ya explain why 85% of all Jeeps now have "Car tires" on them ? Jeep's on Highway treads ? ? Time was A/T's were standard and M/T's were optional, Car tires on Jeeps used to get ya laughed out of town  Mike

New Jeep/s: http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/massif.html The "truck" variant: Image Not Found The "SUV" variant: So a Waggy with a mini brow and a Modernized/inflated CJ-8/10 ! ? ! Mike

Good you should be happy then, I have stuck to plan I haven't touched the AX-4 since I said I wouldn't 2nd 3rd n Reverse growl n howl and now 1st is starting to howl  I haven't made any attempt to do a thing about it, Haven't fixed the rough high idle, also have ignored the busted off shocks, and it still has no rear brakes ;) See I'm staying to the plan, I said "I'll fix nothing till the repower" Mike -

Now yep only a hand full of MJ-20s out there, other 20s interchange ya know . . . Don't like it don't read it seem fairly simple, I've into plenty of threads I didn't care for so I simply quit reading them ;) As for embarrassing myself NOT likely, I'm a loser I'm over it I drive a 20+Yr old dented rusty POS obsolete rigs I'm always a stones throw from homeless . . . Work 70hrs a week all summer long and about 40hrs a month all winter long . . . I'm immune to embarrassment Grin n bear it or unsub and get over it Mike -

What are you saying ? ? Well I already asked about keeping the D35 just swapping out the 3.73s for 4.10s and being done with it. I swear I had gotten prolly 2 PMs from every member advising against keeping the D35 and then advising NOT to invest in a re-gear of said D35. So apparently 215-235hp / 240-260tq is to much for a D35. Mike -

86' MJ-20 / 71'- 74' Jav-20 are the known axles that will interchange. I tracking info on 68' - 70' AMX-20's . . . Mike -
Ya I wasn't so much worried about his welding, I was more taking note of look more of these cars can be saved rather then crushed. There was only less then 20K AMX's built in their 3yr run not going to be around forever. Mike

How to build a Modern AMX: http://www.bangshift.com/blog/Cool-Proj ... arage.html Considering how the lower section of these rust so bad, It sure would be a cool way to save a few rusty one's that other wise might have been scrapped . . . Mike

:headpop: The MJ-20 isn't easy to come by nor cheap :fs1: I know spent plenty of time looking, Those who have them won't sell them :( Yes "car part" bla bla they don't picture the axle nor provide any info that is correct on a true MJ-20 so after seeing how easy it can be mistaken for a CJ-20 I will NOT deal with the folks of car part dot com ;) I'm in the process of moving to Sauk, $150 for a CJ-20 axle $66 in fuel, and we smoked the van's radiator which now pukes through 1.5 gallons a day in . . . New RAD $125 were's the money for it ? ? ? wasted on the wrong Axle ! ! ! As good as the deal sounds I'm passing on it :ack: just going to keep driving it and quit trying to building it . . . Mike -

I don't care what YOU pay . . . I ME MYSELF ect keeps getting quoted 300-500 for a 2WD AX-15 5spd ! ! ! Boy for group of "just put a 4.0 in it" Guy's your really being stubborn about me NOT quitting this build ! ! ! Why ? ? ? Who cares ? ? So I wasted 2years, $525, an engine and a axle. Mike -

Budget for main parts was $900: $300 engine $300 trans $300 rear end cores for rebuilding. Spent: $375 engine over by $75 / $150 rear end under by $150 / trans not found. So 150-75 = $75 you going to find an M-20 for $75 ! ? ! ? So for $375 I need to find an AX-15 2WD, and a Rear end that fits . . . Not likely to happen given the 60" M-20s run $250-$350 before shipping and used/core AX-15s are $300-$500 ! ! ! Good thing I wasn't to the disassembling stage yet, Would of been shame to of had to scrap the truck too. So now I have a set of rocker panels an engine and a rear axle I now have no use for Shame I was excited too, Remember AMC had the AMX/3 ready for production and walked away too. Mike -
