  1. Yeah, figured it was worth a shot
  2. Edit: Found this one on this forum, not mine, or the best pic, but may help..

    Hidden winch

Shame all the factory hidden winch parts are unobtainable. It looked like a nice setup. It'd probably be a nightmare to piece together.
  4. Going along the top edge of the raised portion of the panel, I got 23".
  5. I've been busy! Got the engine bay stripped, cleaned and prepped, then primed and coated the inner fender wells. Kind of working in a "top-down, forward-back" kind of way. Also started working on one of my many side-projects. The extended idle switch plate had a pretty bad melted area on the open side, So I didn't feel TOO bad about cutting it up. Still a bit of trimming and refinement to do. I could have done a better job, though. I can fix it, and make it look stock, I think. I'm also looking for a way to replicate the plastic decals.
  6. I would be in for this as well..
  7. We don't test the defroster. technically, the windshield itself isn't even a testable item. The gas cap pressure test is done on the cap itself, with the cap removed from the vehicle. But like you said, once a vehicle hits 25 years old, (1992 this year) It's exempt from the emission and gas cap checks. However, the law states that any emission equipment installed at the factory must be present, and in good working order. No-one checks for this, though. If we did, headers, open-element air cleaners, etc would cause alot cars going back to the early 70's to fail.
  8. The tails on my Comanche were destroyed by the previous owner, so I need a decent set if anyone has some laying around.
  9. Finally getting this thing pulled today. Going to have a lot of cleaning to do....
  10. Great job so far. Subscribing!
  11. I sure will, Same goes for you, if you're ever up Crowley/Burleson way, give me a shout!
  12. Started on the teardown. Going to pull everything forward of the firewall.
  13. It would have to be wired in, It's basically a relay, switched by the regular headlamp wiring, that feeds power directly from the battery to the lights Instead of powering the lights through the headlamp switch.
  14. Yeah, A long time ago I had a 95 YJ with a five speed, This truck reminded me how fun that thing was. It was just like driving a tractor. I wonder if anyone would be willing to do a trade for a complete auto swap.
  15. Starting this thread to follow the build of my new-to-me 1988 Comanche. It's a Sport truck package, maroon interior, 2.5L four speed, with 201,300 miles on the clock. I picked it up to replace my 1996 Cherokee sport, and will be swapping the drive train over. The donor: It has 303,000 miles, rust all through the floor pans and sub frame, but the motor and transmission work perfectly. The truck looks a bit rough, runs pretty poorly, and the steering has insane amounts of play. Mostly all these things are due to lack of maintenance by the previous owner, but the floor pans and most of the body are pretty solid. Everything's just very dirty. I was hoping to drive the truck for a while before I swapped things over, but it seems the 2.5 is all but dead. Pretty sure it has a rod knock. So, I'll just have to get started sooner. The Cherokee is an automatic, and the original plan was to just swap things over. But even as scary as the drive home was, the manual transmission was fun. I sort of miss having a standard. So I'm not sure. I may end up trading the AW4 and 231 towards an AX15 242 combo.
  16. Thanks! Yeah, it looks great from up top. The rust is all through the floorpans and wheelwells, especially through the rear. Also along the top surface of the subframe.
  17. Yeah but they're just a bunch of enablers. Well, I'll fit right in then.
  18. Thanks, It's going to be a fun build. I'll have to start a thread soon! It is for the most part, there's quite a few rusty scratches, and a few minor dents. You can even still make out where the "Sporttruck" decals used to be. Hopefully I can get the 4 banger up to spec, It sounded pretty bad on the way home. Thanks! We do have a Comanche support group here, right? :rotf:
  19. Hello everyone, My name is Nathan, though I can be found various places around the net as Ataki. I started looking for a good Cherokee shell to replace my 96 XJ, that has rusted through pretty much every floorboard, and a few places on the subframe. I found this 88 Comanche on craigslist, and picked it up for what I think is a decent price. It's a 2.5 4speed, 2wd. It looks rough, but it just really needs a good cleaning and some TLC. The floorpans are excellent, and the interior is pretty nice for the most part. It hasn't seen maintenance in probably 10 years. The steering has roughly 135 degrees of play, the engine barely runs, made for an interesting trip home across DFW at rush hour, lol. The engine just needs a good going over to get up to par, Until I swap thing over from my trusty, rusty, 310k mile Cherokee. Anyways, Thanks for having me here, and I look forward to talking with everyone!
