PROJECT BUDGET MANCHE - Now on 35's!
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well I got a call today from one of my favorite vendors that they had finally got thier 1-ton cross-over steering setup done for the XJ/MJ and available on the market. So I placed my order. $250 plus shipping. I'll use my flip kit from the other tierod to make it over the knuckle on the drivers side and put the tierod I had ordered for it on Rebecca's XJ as the RE one just isn't cutting it. Hopefully I'll get it sometime next week and find some time to get it installed. -
I'm very happy with my Comp Cam in my 4.6L stroker.

Well I took it offroading for the 1st time this past weekend. It performed flawlessly. :D I was really happy with the way it performed. Just have a few small things I need to tweak and it's going to be a beast on the trail. GreatLakesXJ.com had it's Summer Wheeling Fest at the Badlands Offroad park in Indiana in where we tested it out for the 1st time. Here are some photo's from the event. Their are about 250 more photos that can be found here: http://greatlakesxj.activeboard.com/ind ... D=13040497 To view the fullsize photo's you'll have to register on GLXJ (it's free). Their is also a video of this event that can be found here: http://www.greatlakesxj.com/events/Summ ... /Movie.wmv -

It was a pritty safe run. I lost my muffler (was gonna happen anyways) and had a bit of fender rubbage from my 35's. I dinged my above door drip guard just a tad from a tree. Josh (red XJ) lost a fender flare from rubbage of his tires as well. Andy (blue KJ) had a small dent in his door from a rock. But all in all, it was a really clean run. -

You guys missed an awesome weekend! I will get pics up in awhile. I just got home and need to get stuff put away first. -
I talked with the guy this weekend who is actually part of the project and has been designing them. 20" and 17" will be released later this year. The 15" will be available mid next year. The final design isn't even 100% yet as they are still doing some testing. They have the tread pattern decided on, however they are still playing around with the sidewalls. Thats all I'm allowed to say... 8)

2.5l to 4.0 swap info needed?
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to oparatior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok call me stupid than, cause I tried to put the 4.0L into my '86 MJ and I needed a good 2-3" more clearance at the firewall for it to fit. Ended up ditching that project and put a 3.4L in instead. And trust me I know my way around doing engine swaps as I work for a world known engine tuner/builder. What exactly are you guys doing to get it to fit in? I know they changed the firewalls in '87, wonder if your guy's were late '86 builds where the firewall already changed? -

I will once I get it installed. I'm still waiting for my TRE's to show up since I ordered some Moog HD one's.... Will have pics up once I get to it, probably won't have it done in time for the trip this weekend though. -

Since your is an '86 your not going to get a 4.0L into it without modifications to the firewall. -

Well I will probably regret posting this info, as it's going to kill the resale value for me... Since phase 1 is pretty much complete, I thought I'd post my buildup cost. Don't get me wrong their is still more to come with Project Budget Manche in the future, but I'm done enough to enjoy it for awhile as it is. I'll probably start phase 2 this winter which will include an axle swap, lockers, and a winch. Anyways, here is the rundown of cost thus far including the initial cost of the vehicle. The wheels and tires (highlighted in green) I stole from my XJ for the time being. They are less than 6 months old so I factored that into the price as well. At the bottom I excluded them as it was not a immediate cost the last 2 months with this build as I'm going to say I already had them. I was also able to sell a few things off the MJ that I did not use (31" tires, and a few small misc. items), so I deducted that cost as well for the total. So grand total thus far is $1271. -

Got a few small things done today. It's looking like I should easily have it done in time for this coming weekend to wheel. I got the muffler installed. It sounds MUCH better actually having a muffler on it and I won't be annoyed while on the trail now. I also got the tunes going in it. I had some truck box speakers from a few years ago I put in. They shound pretty good and now I will have something to listen to while wheeling. I also finished up the tow bar. We hooked it up to Rebecca's XJ and took it for a spin and it tows very nicely. No weird noises or anything and pulled well at 60mph. More work to come (though not much left!) -
1986 MJ my frist project
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to oparatior's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
The MJ and the XJ back halves are different. -
Ok I'm confused (yes it's late).... Your doing a SOA in the rear, so you only really need to worry about the front. I can't understand where your prices are coming from? TNT Longarms - 875 6" Coils - 100 Front Shocks - 100 Bolt on SOA - 150 Less than $1300 to your door... RK Longarms - 600 6" Coils - 100 Front Shocks - 100 Bolt on SOA - 150 Less than $1000 to your door... The TNT setup is bolt-on. RK is "kinda" bolt on, than drive it to a local welder and have them finish it. As far as the RE setup goes, I can't see spending the $$$ on drop brackets and adjustable control arms when you can spend another $200 on the TNT setup that includes a belly skid.... Heck I've got $300 into my 6.5-7" lift total (ok $500 if you include the RE tracbar, and $650 if you include the steering upgrades). Given I got a deal on some used parts locally, I had a set of shocks from my XJ, and I'm not long armed yet. But it's all name brand stuff...

1986 MJ my frist project
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to oparatior's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
any idea who makes one ? Clayton's makes one for the XJ. Rock Krawler makes on for the XJ as well. However neither will work on the MJ....
