  1. So one of the previous owners of the comanche I just bought had installed a posi lock unit to replace the vacuum disconnect on the front dana 30. I am not sure if I totally understand the cad axles or not. What I guess I am trying to find out is - If I engage my transfer case into 4wd, either high or low, will my front axle engage the driver side shaft like an open diff axle? Basically 3wd if the rear has a locker. This being true if I do not engage the posi lock. Then when I engage the posi lock unit I will have both front wheels locked? Any feedback is appreciated.
  2. Truck is 4x4
  3. Looking for a replacement 87 4.0 renix , 5 speed wiring harness. Looking for engine bay and dash wiring harnesses. The p.o. of the comanche I just picked up has destroyed the harness with painless harnesses spliced everywhere. Tons of power feeds from the battery with no fuses and I figure at this point it is much easier to just swap harnesses then try and back trace every wire he has ran around the truck before it catches fire. Will pay shipping if no one is close by. Norway, maine 04268. Looking for asap.
  4. I ripped the old blue cracked to pieces dash out of my 87 comanche with a 4.0 renix and I'm looking for a replacement dash and trims. Preferably looking for black but I would maybe be ok with grey. don't need clusters or any controls but will take them if they're included. I'm located in norway, maine 04268 and would pay shipping if no one close by has one. Looking for asap.
  5. Boy am i glad that the people of maine are so far behind in fads that I won't see anything this dumb for a few years to come.
  6. http://i.imgur.com/sBvb3o9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nF3gBfX.jpg Just a few pics of my 78 chief I just sold to fund my mj build. Looking to make this build more steerable but expect to see a bunch of mods comming from me over the winter.
  7. Ive never put a v8 into a comanche but am very familiar with 360's. What is the main goal you are trying to achieve here? If it is higher hp or torque you are barking up the wrong tree. A factory amc 360 with a 4 barrel made about 200 hp and 300 ft/lbs. I wouldnt trade a 4.0 for that any day. If its carburation your looking for check out some 86 and older 4.0's or even some 4.2's. You said something fun to drive is what your looking for but I don't think a 360 is going to provide that without an extreme amount of engine work. Your fuel consumption is going to go from 16-18 mpg assuming you have a 4.0 in your jeep to something along the lines of 10-12 mpg on a very well tunned 360 while getting no noticeable power increases. If you are set on a v8 swap which seems like a poor decision I would really look into a gmail 350 where you can easily get a motor with 350hp and 350 ft/lbs. If youve got some cash to throw around look into a 4.7 stroker motor. High hp comes with higher price tags, including but not limited to transmission upgrades, axle upgrades, plus a huge list of mods for fitting a v8 under your hood.
  8. Any downside to running bypass shocks on the fronts with the long arms? I'm still used to fsj's with front leafs and am getting ready to build my first much and have been messing with the idea of bypass' s.
  9. This is a really great write up for anyone who is unfamiliar with the process of removing a dash on an mj or xj. Wish I read this a few days ago before I spent 2 hours getting my dash and heater assembly out.
  10. I'm in norway maine if anyone is interested in getting together for a weekend before it snows. Ive got 200 acres at my house but I'm not opposed to going up to carthage. Its only about 45 min from my house.
  11. My worst mechanical failure is hard to decide on. First was a broken idler arm on an 89 toyota pickup doing about 55. Ended up in the ditch but didnt hit anything. Second was in my 78 cherokee chief I had a front wheel bearing literally blow out going about 50. The truck had about 10 inches of lift and was sitting on 40's so it wasnt very easy to steer when that happened. Busted the spindle shaft and a full turn warn hub on a built dana 60.

  14. Hey guys. Just bought my first comanche today. Ive had xj's and a 78 cherokee chief so I'm not new to jeeps by any means. The new war wagon is an 87 pickup with a 4.0, ax15 swap, np231, dana 44 rear axle and a dana 30 front axle. Its got a rustys soa kit done with rustys coils up front. Pictures will be posted tomorrow. Got it for $1500 as a donor. Expect to see and hear alot from me over the winter as this jeeps gonna be stripped and built. I will document all parts of this build.
