  1. Good attitude with alcohol. The physiology, as you probably know, is that alcohol dilates your blood vessels which causes your blood pressure to drop. That in turn causes your heart to race to keep the bp up. Your body might be more sensitive to vasodilation from alcohol than other people might be. Or it could indicate some unknown condition. When death is impending, blood pressure drops and the heart races to keep bp up. In a weakened body, it races until it fails and death occurs. You might want to have an exercise stress test if you have not already. Avoid the widow maker.
  2. Definitely looks like an allergic reaction. Not so sure it is to the alcohol although it might amplify what is going on. What other things have you eaten or had to drink since this started? Handling any chemicals at work or home? Any medications? Some people breakout like that from certain antibiotics when they are exposed to the sun. Have you been in contact with poison ivy? Time to visit your doc and take your clothes off and let him examine you. Take pictures with your phone when you have the breakouts and take your phone with you when you visit him.

  7. I spoke with the mechanic who has done all the work on my 2 MJs. He said he checked the blend doors and found them to be ok. He said one of the hoses going to the heater core was very hot and the other was not. (A change from what I had stated.) He also said that even though the new heater core was installed only a year and half ago, the flushing of the radiator and engine was very rusty. He spoke of working on an XJ recently with a heater core he had installed about 5 years earlier and was filled with rust. I will take the truck back Tuesday for him to disconnect hoses and flush the core. I also asked him after he flushes it to attached short pieces of heater hose to the heater core and turn them up and fill the core with a rust dissolvent and leave it for a day and flush it again.

  9. The intake and discharge hoses at the firewall feel to be about the same temperature. The hoses on each side of the HCV feel to be about the same temperature also. I ran across this picture. I guess an AZ plumber had some left over copper.

  11. That makes a believer out of me. I had the mechanic replace the HCV even though it was not malfunctioning but probably original. I asked him about A Mopar one and he said that some of those made later might be better.

  13. Good idea. Your theory is that if there is little rust, the intake will be hotter than the discharge hose, indicating good heat transfer? Glad to know that there should not be much accumulation in the year and half even though the old radiator was pretty nasty.
  14. The heater core was replaced a year and a half ago when new a/c was installed. The engine and radiator were flushed after that and were badly filled with rust. Then the new radiator was installed. Has anyone come up with a non-metal flexible tool to attach to a drill that would flex its way through the core and scrape the inside like cleaning a sewer pipe?

  17. I understand that the heater control valve can restrict flow of hot water and reduce the heat at the core. If there is no valve, hot water flows in the heater core all the time and gives off heat in the plenum assembly at the same time that the ac evaporator is absorbing heat. What am I missing? Elaborate if you would.

  19. The clutch went out originally. The mechanic replaced the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder. It worked ok initially but went out again after two days. That is when I posted. On return to the mechanic, he (reverse) bled it. After a couple of more days it went out again. He replaced the new slave cylinder with a another new slave cylinder of a different brand. Three days later, it is now working ok.

  22. 89 MJ, 4.0, 93K miles. Does anyone have a best guess why the heat is coming out luke warm? The mechanic said it is coming out at 140F degrees even though the temperature gauge is showing 195. A year and a half ago, I had ac installed (never had ac before) and had a new heater core replaced at that time. An electric fan was added for the ac but the mechanical fan is still there. 3 or 4 weeks ago, (long story short), after overheating, the mechanic replaced water pump, water neck (because it was pitted), and flushed the engine and radiator. He also replaced the clutch on the mechanical fan because it was not working. The temperature gauge indicated there was still a problem. It overheated again. Then he replaced the radiator. I asked him to replace the heater control valve even though there appeared to be no problem with it. I also asked him to look to see if it was fully opened when the temperature control on the dash was at max. (I want the heater control valve to remain so the ac will be optimal). The mechanic thinks the heater core, even though only a year and half old, may be partially full of rust from the engine flush prior to the radiator being replaced. Once the engine heats to 195F it maintains a steady temperature, but it does take 8 or 10 miles to reach 195. I will likely leave well enough alone at this point. If anyone has any thoughts about why the heat is luke warm, have at it. FYI, Virginia Beach is right on the Atlantic Ocean and that keeps us a little warmer in the winter and a little cooler in the summer than 75 miles inland. Day time winter temperatures below 30F is cold for us and night time temperatures go below 20F only a few night a year here.
