Another mpg question..yea yea i know
veritas4156 replied to CTcrawler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Customer came into the Advance that i work at the other day to buy a set of e3 plugs for his XJ. I asked him how he liked them in the jeep. His response was "jumping from 14 mpg with my 33s to 19 mpg is worth the 36 bucks worth of plugs to me". -
I pretzeled my driveshaft today. It was fun. I need another one so that I can do it again. Hopefully someone has one so I don't need to have one made. Somebody please have one.

where to buy a new gas tank?
veritas4156 replied to MJ86YJ90's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
bought an ebay tank for something stupid cheap, i think under $100 with free shipping. Got the 23 gallon tank, installed it, no leaks, comes with a lock ring and o ring, and its holding up well after a ny winter with no rust on it. -
So I went to completely redo my exhaust back from the manifold today and everything went great except the last part. The rear hanger on the bed side for the tailpipe is missing. I bypassed this by using one of those cheap universal hangers from Advance Auto but I figured I'd see if someone can shoot a pic for me so I can rig up a more permanent fix. Mine's a long bed, not sure if that makes a difference. Both MJs I've had were missing this. I dunno if it isn't supposed to have one or if their prone to breaking or what.

Question's for all you veteren's
veritas4156 replied to Suprajeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
One thought might be to take the short bed box, throw it on the longbed chassis and bolt it up towards the back. Then build a tool box type thing between the cab and bed to make up the space. Could be awesome and would be handy. -
Re-assurance question on fuel tank question
veritas4156 replied to Backroads's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
surprisingly my 20 year old filler was fine when i swapped my tank. Seriously looked and felt like brand new rubber. -
breaking into your vehicle (lost keys)
veritas4156 replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I can use any key that is even remotely similar to mine to open my MJ or start it. Drove it around for two weeks with the key to my motorcycle before I found the key once. -
IIRC, you just gotta change the bellhousing and possibly switch up the mount.

4.0L balancer how-to
veritas4156 replied to SouthShore440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
toke me 4 to 6. no lift & no air tools put jeep on jack stands, remove belt, remove alternator, disconnect track bar , disconnect steering @ the pitman arm so you can get as much droop out of the suspension as possible, drain the oil, remove the oil pan, i clamped a pair of vice grips on the crank to break the bolt on the balancer, use a puller & remove the balancer, remove the timing cover, clean the timing cover & oil pan, clean engine block, add RTV & new gaskets & reinstall. Sounds like a nice afternoon spending quality time with a 12 pack. -
4.0L balancer how-to
veritas4156 replied to SouthShore440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I gotta figure out which seal is leaking on my truck. I've got a pretty good oil leak from around the timing cover but i can't tell if its oil pan or timing cover seal. Simply because I'm too lazy to look. Any guesstimates on time to pull the timing cover, replace the seal, and put it back together? On a YJ i would say 2 hours but there was soooooo much more room on that. :hijack: -
I work at an Advance auto and I hear every different thing from every different customer. I've always used castrol up until just recently, when i switched to rotella. There is one customer that pretty much has me sold on Amsoil though. He's a travelling guitar teacher. Middle aged gent, mild mannered, and quite knowledgeable in pretty much anything under the sun. Hates the government. He's got a 2003 Corolla with 650,000 miles. And a 1996 camry with 430,000. And he just got rid of his 94 EXPLORER with 470,000 miles. And he says he only changes his oil every 25,000 with Amsoil and a K&N filter.

Better ratio and beefier. A friend of mine did it on his XJ and absolutely loved it.

Actually, I have a can of that seafoam power steering flush stuff laying around. I was gonna throw some kerosene in there. Maybe I'll use the seafoam.
-
damn. Time to try something stupid. If it works, I'll be good. If it doesn't, I'll just eliminate the power steering temporarily(box is already shot anyway it seems like) and grow massive forearm muscles.

Factory Rear Bumper Paint Code/Color ?
veritas4156 replied to RDAN1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had one in chrome. -
Really weird symptoms the past few days. Left the truck at home for the weekend, come back, and now I don't have power steering. Only to the left. To the right its fine. Fluid is full, looks like the pump is functioning. All I can think of is the steering stabilizer might be messed up somehow. Anyone ever see this before?

Yeah I'm feeling better about it. Oh, and that Dear John thing, I work at Advance auto and I know of at least 3 stores that have that posted in the break room.

Always do wear a rain coat... And from a previous experience with a different girl where I did as well, I still worry. Previous experience I wore one, she was on birth control, and I found out from a friend that she had an abortion without telling me. Now that's just bad luck.

Alright guys, drinking and bugging out. Just started dating a new girl. Went on a road trip to DC to visit my old college roommate. Great time. Wish I took the MJ but my dad's civic is sooo much better on gas and being that I just swapped the transmission in it for him I told him that I wanted to take it for a good long "test drive". This afternoon a girl that I hooked up with a few weeks ago texted me saying "I'm not pregnant. Sorry for the randomness but I'm so relieved I had to let you know... I was like 8 days late and freaking out." Never heard a word before this other than some weird texts that made me say "What the hell is she talking about?" Now I've dated a MILF or two in my day and judging from what they've said, a woman getting her period isn't enough evidence to write off pregnancy. I know I'm probably just nervous as hell and shouldn't worry, but I need some wrench-turning, oil in their blood men to tell me to man up and quit worrying. Should I tell her to get a pregnancy test or is her having gotten her period enough for me to say screw it and go back to not freaking out?

I know people with XJs use the durango box because of the better ratio, its much beefier, and i believe its a straight bolt on. http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/durango-steering-box-upgrade-3805/

Rear suspension is off
veritas4156 replied to veritas4156's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I haven't really had a chance to take it all apart yet because of my current job search and having to swap the tranny on my father's commuter car. I did get a chance to peek underneath the truck and I still can't see anything worn out or broken other than the shackle being bent on the passenger side. The bushings seem good (as far as I could tell by looking and prodding). I have next weekend off so I"ll take it apart then and let you guys know. Anyone wanna hire a recent Binghamton University MBA grad with very little experience? -
Rear suspension is off
veritas4156 replied to veritas4156's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmm.... I'll have to get under it in the morning and check it out. Hopefully my buddy is gonna be around so i can just throw it on his lift. -
A few weeks ago I was driving along and my right rear made a thump like I hit a pothole. I didn't hit anything, had no load in the bed, etc. Over these past couple of weeks I've been getting some weird driveline vibes, which I assumed must be a u-joint on its way out. My tires started wearing unevenly and quickly, which I couldn't figure out. Today I was standing behind my truck smoking a cig and noticed that the driver side tire sits inside the wheel well about 1/2 inch and the passenger side sits outside the wheel well about a 1/2 inch. Crap. So now my rear axle is off center. Looked for reasons and my passenger side shackle is just plain crooked. Pics follow. What the hell did I do and will replacing the shackles fix it?
