  1. These still tend to go pretty cheaply (look at the one that's for sale on here right now), tho it actually has a bed, and tailgate, so that would be pretty good around here. (Rustachusetts). I don't know if Pa has rust issues as bad as we do. That plow looks old, if it's an old belt driven hydrolic it's probably had parts canibalized off it by now. If the plow is non-working, it shouldn't add to the price. (if anything price should be lower for perceived wear & tear). Typically these early J's go in the $300-$800 range, anything over $1000 usually has shiny paint & pretty wheels, but still has the deathtrap brakes. I posted some links to convert these closed knuckle 44's to disc brakes here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21367&start=15 Tall skinny tires (those wheels are probably 16's, so 215/85R16's are a good size to go with), and disc brake swap would be my first 2 mods after buying one of these. I still miss mine   Cut the rotted bed & last rotted foot off the frame, and ran a 7' wood flatbed on mine.
  2. Unless the bed was changed, that's a 1973 J4000. 1972's had different taillights & tailgate, 1974's were designated J20 for the 3/4 ton's, and 8 lug (6 lug for J10's), so it's a 73. The badge says 360, 73 was the first year for a 360/4bbl (P-code) in a J truck. N-code 360 2bbl's were also available (401's went into in J-trucks in 74'). Look for an N, or a P in the VIN if you want to know 360 2v vs 4v. Tranny is either a TH400 auto, or a T-18 granny low 4spd. (I don't think the 3spd std was available in the J4000 that year. :dunno: If it's still origional: Semi-floating D60 rear, most likely 4.10's, but other gears were optional. This is a desirable 5 on 5.5" 35 spline D60 (and not a C-clip SF 60 like they put in Fords), but the wheel bearings are crazy expensive if/when they go ($100 each would be a good price for the bearings). The ft end is a D44, but with closed knuckle ball ends (wimpier shafts, poor turning radius, etc). 12x2" drums all around. :ack: Ft suspension is also not great, it's SOA, but with thin leafs (2", or 1.75", I forget now). 1974 was the changeover year when they went to a Waggy style ft suspension (2.5" leafs/SUA, and open knuckle ft 44's). 1973 was the last of the older, less desirable stuff. (tho also the last year for 5 on 5.5" bolt patturn in 1/2 & 3/4 tons). Check the frame for rust too, the J-truck frames weren't that great back then (1976 was a big improvement) I had this same exact truck 10 years ago, The brakes are marginal when everything is perfect, horrible when wet, and if you have 4.10's, a tall skinny 32, or 33 would be your best bet to keep RPM's down. I never got more than 10 or 11 MPG out of mine, and that was with a modern (at the time) OEM Holley carb off a late model Ford.
  3. Off topic, but Jim, drop one set of image brackets: "[ img ] [ /img ]" off of your sig picture, and it will show up. what you have now: [/img] with one set of "" brackets dropped: :agree: with the 4.10 recomendation, but either way, the 2.5L is going to be less than great on the highway (atleast around here, with steep hills all over the place). If I wanted a 2.5L highway cruiser MJ, I'd do what I could to tweak a little more out of the 4, keep the truck as light as I possibly could, @ the stock height with a light weight wheel combo (205/75's on aluminum wheels would be ideal). For max economy tho, my guess would be a similarly equipt 3.07 geared 5spd 4.0L would pull down better MPG on the highway than a 4.10 geared 5spd 2.5L :dunno: (even though the ratings say differently)
  4. The pic is actually amazing, I wonder if they did it to show the 4.0L, without actually showing what could be a less than perfect swap job. (pic cropped, reversed, and flipped over by me:) Those don't look like the factory 4.0L heater hoses, or puke tank. The reflection is so good, you can ever read 'Interstate' on the battery, and see the warning stickers on both fan shrouds. Obviously it has the 4.0L hood latch in front too. I still vote it's legitimately an 86', with a 4.0L swapped in. :dunno: Original pic is here: http://i.aultec.com/v/7096/Originals/1J ... 337506.jpg
  5. Wow, that's interesting. I would give them some benefit of the doubt, but it is a 4.0L auto, and the VIN would make it a 2.8L 5spd. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out if it did start as a 2.8L 5spd by looking at it. (clutch master hole in dash, wiring harness holes in the dash, front radiator support, even the way the ft fenders bolt to the header should be different from an 86' 2.8L to the 87+ 4.0L). Swapping an 86' VIN onto an 87+ MJ would be tough to get away with (and crazy to try in a top dollar vehicle), so, without having seen it in person, I'd still lean towards this being a Legit 86' that had a drivetrain swap. Though it is somewhat suspicious that they never mention the engine/tranny swap in any of the ad's. They also went out of their way to NOT show the engine in the pictures (showing a shot of the inside of the hood, but not the engine itself seems strange to me). Luckily, the inside of the hood is shiny enough that you can see the reflection of the 4.0L valve cover, air box, Renix coolant tank, and other stuff.
  6. Both the T&T, and the RE brackets bolted on. Rusty's, RockKrawler, and pretty much every other XJ/MJ track bar bracket I've seen also seems to bolt on (as does the factory bracket).
  7. OK, sorry to ruin your thread with this, but here's my history with these people up till today: 1/21/10 Auction For Power Mirrors 'won', I immediately pay pal'd them the money 1/22/10 shipping label printed 1/28/10 GF called about the order, and was given tracking number (which said "label printed" on 1/22) 1/28/10 after speaking with us, the item was actually then shipped 2/2/10 I received the item Of course the item was wrong, (for a WJ). 2/3/10 upon receiving a shipping label from them, I immediately sent the item back, so they could send me the correct ones (they said upon my shipping confirmation they would ship the correct ones) 2/11/10 I was finally notified (after several more phone calls) that they did not have power/heated XJ mirrors, and my money was refunded. 2/11/10 I chose non-power mirrors instead 2/12/10 I paid for item (with credit card this time, instead of pay pal) 2/16/10 shipping label printed 2/19/10 still not shipped 2/19/10 original shipping label canceled, and I am now being promised it will go out today, 3 day shipping (instead of standard UPS). My girlfriend has been the one to interact with this seller, and even with all the incompetence, has still been nothing but nice to them on the phone/emails, so I have no idea why they've been complete d-bags up till this point.
  8. My GF just spoke to them on the phone AGAIN, mine HAS NOT shipped yet. I said I had a friend (you :waving: ) who ordered one 4 days after me, and theirs has already shipped. They said "um um um our shipping department is really busy right now, so maybe they grabbed his order first, bla bla bla" They then promised that it would be on the truck tonight AGAIN. I've been daily driving my MJ since January + being blind in one eye = the stock mirrors aren't cutting it. Which is why I ordered the power set on 1/21, and when they didn't have them, the non powered set on 2/11. I would REALLY like it if this seller was driving distance from me right now.
  9. This. Tho the TNT moves the track bar pivot point forward, compared to the RE, and allows more room for the axle to move forward when compressing the suspension, without hitting the bracket. I had an RE bracket + bar, then modified the RE bar to take the TNT bracket (re-bend the bar, and drilled out the joint for a bigger bolt). Some of the swap is in the build thread: http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... 1&start=30
  10. RIP
  11. I'm sure this has been posted here before, it started at $11,999: (Google Cache: http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:ktL ... clnk&gl=us ) It's been relisted on Craigs list here a couple dozen times since then, price dropping gradually. Now it's DOWN to JUST $7995. :rotfl2: http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/ctd/1603687329.html I think everyone here has seen this MJ by now, if you haven't, check out the pics in the CL ad, and here: http://dealers.autouplinkusa.com/v/?obj ... lerId=7096 VIN (1JTWL6518GT133375) decodes to: 2.8L 5spd part time 4wd, base Comanche My thoughts (sorry for the critical ones if the owner posts here): Obviously the paint & body look amazing in the pics You can't 'RESTORE' an 1986' 2.8L/5spd Comanche by swapping in a Renix4.0L/Automatic. (they claim it is a 4.0L, and you can see the reflection of the engine in the hood shot) Restified, modified, improved, whatever, but not RESTORED. The AMC Bed mat, and headliner are dead sexy. They installed a 4.0L with AC in an 86', but kept the roll up windows, and used a no-gauge gauge set instead of even the 1/2 cluster. Where's the 'Power/Comfort' switch for the tranny? The new whitish-grey rug looks out of place with the black dash/console & grey seats (was this a factory setup? I do like the black dash  ) No mention of an M20, or D44 rear. That visor thing really needs to go. So, will this ever sell? and what do you think it's really worth?
  12. All I have to say about 'spring being around the corner' is: April 1st 1997. :ack: It had been almost 70* a couple days before, then 30+ inches were dumped overnight for the last day of March/First day of April  The wiki link says official overnight snow in Boston was 25.4", but that's at Logan Airport (surrounded on 3 sides by 50* water in April). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fool ... y_Blizzard Inland we got well over 30" In April.
  13. I was told mine shipped last night too, but they haven't updated the UPS tracking (it says "Billing Information Received", just like it did for 2 weeks the last time)
  14. The wrong ones they sent (00 WJ's) were 'OK' at best, had a more 'plasticy' feeling than the stock mirrrors. The reason they gave me for the hold up was that theur data base was wrong, and they DO NOT have any Power Heated 97-01 XJ mirrors. It took 2+ weeks of waiting, 10, or 12 phone calls, and one wrong shipment for them to figure that out tho. The worst part is they NEVER called me They LIED with every phone call Then, after chasing them for 2 weeks, they finally said "Oh, we don't have any of those' (but they hadn't removed their auctions for them  ) I am now waiting for a set from the same auction you linked (manual ones). Then I'm gonna do the only lame thing I can for all the aggravation, post some negative feedback, that will get buried under a ton of good feedback, and generally ignored.
  15. I'd like a $125 MJ D44  For atleast 1987 (other years too, but I'd have to look at the info to say for sure), The D44 was part of the 'Tow Prep Package', part of the 'Metric Ton Package', part of the 'Off Road Package', and available as a stand alone 'Heavy Duty Rear Axle' package, so there was more than just one way for it to end up under an MJ. & I'd guess 3.07's & 3.54's were the most common ratio's.
  16. I haven't dug through & read this stuff in a while, so :agree: Some of these scans came out pretty poor tho (scanned, then reduced to 30%), I'll try to fix them when I get to the rest of the 1992 stuff. I'm hoping to include ALL 1992 dealer literature in this thread (including Brochures), then make a 1991 thread, and so forth. I've been wanting to do this for a while, but just haven't had the time to scan all the pages.
  17. Mods, I'm not sure that 'Tech' is the right spot for scan threads like these, but 'The Pub' says: General chit-chat and everything non-tech or non-Comanche goes here so I put them here. :dunno: These are from the '1992 Product Information Booklet'. There was also a full '1992 Data Book', I'll try to scan the pages, and add it to this thread when I can.
  18. And the color chart for 1993 Comanche's, these are the supposed 5 new colors: Deep Blue Metallic Navajo Turquoise Metallc Flame Red Canyon Blue Metallic and Light Champagne Metallic: The things that interest me the most about '1993 Comanche's' are, do the interior lights seem different to anyone else? (there's no mention of them working as a rocker switch in the text) these exterior colors and 'Two New Interior Colors'? (Charcoal & Dark Sand)
  19. They were still going t keep the Big Ton option: Interiors:
  20. I wonder if any of the 'New For 1993' colors were used in 92' MJ's (that would make for a rarity I'd think :smart: )
  21. They made them for every year, tho the AMC stuff is a little more scarce. (one area Chrysler was a big improvement in was their literature  ). I have alot of different ones. None are for sale, but I'll scan stuff if you're looking for something in particular.
  22. Honestly, introducing the ZJ best move Jeep ever made, up till that time. The ZJ broke all kinds of Jeep sales records, and had a huge profit margin. I think the MJ went mostly because single cab pickups have one of the lowest profit margins, and they were never going to spend the money to make the Comanche an extended cab, or a (gasp) 4 door. (would've been sweet tho)
  23. I have bigger scans of this stuff if you guys can't read it. Here's their MJ customer base for 1993: 36 years old, Male and Married. $42k a year (17 years ago) 28% college grads (the LOWEST of ALL Jeeps BTW :rotf: ) If the line returned for 93' it was going to be down to just 'Eliminator', or 'Base' (tho there was an optional 'Sport' package on top of the Base model).
