    Should I ?

1980 Cherokee narrow track. 360 v8 or the inline six. The body alone is worth what they are asking if there is no rust.
  2. I'm with Pete. Build your suspension and axles now and worry about the engine later. The 2.5 is a tough dependable motor and the 5 speed behind it helps a little. I do like my 4.0L though.
  3. I buy alot of things from Quadratec and 4 wheel drive hardware , but if I need it now, most of the time I go to Advance Auto because they are open until 9:00 pm every day. I like to buy parts Jeeps and take the good stuff off.
  4. Do you get any fluid come through the bleeders in the rear? It may be that your proportioning valve is stuck or not the proper one for rear disk.
  5. Could be a bad clutch on fan.
  6. Well then we will need to pick some dates, start a thread for it and start planning.
  7. What I would like to see is a step side type bed on a Comache. Hmm!
  8. I did mine on my Comanche a year or so ago. They make a special set of cups for the Dana 30 axle I purchased from too topia.com. A friend has the big c clamp tool for pressing ball joints and u joints I can borrow when I need to. Purchased my ball joints from Rock Auto and got the Moog Problem Solvers because I hate cheap parts that I will need to replaced again.
  9. I would be up for a McCaslin Mt meet and greet in the spring when the snow is melting and the frost is coming up and making the ground soft and mushy. I am not sure what state of modification my Comanche will be in at that time but I will have the XJ as a back up.
  10. I can print them for you and send them to you in the mail. I am not able to email them. PM me a mailing address and what years you want wiring diagrams for. I have Mitchell manuals on a CD covering 1983 to 2003 model years.
  11. Maybe this is would be a good reason to have a pow wow wrench-a-thon at TNT's to help him out.
  12. If there is anything I can do to help put something together let me know.
  13. I never really cared for them because they replaced the XJ but over all they are a good vehicle. Too small for the family so we bought this one recently. an 04 with just under 20,000 miles on it for 12,900 with my old wagoneer as a trade in. Last year for the 4.0L and it has select trac 4x4 system which I prefer.
  14. The seats came out of the 89 XJ that I am parting out. I had to use the seat mounts from the bench seat that was in the truck.
  15. If anyone is interested in going to northern WI I would be interested in getting something going in the future. First I need to build my truck. Here is a nice photo of a friends CJ7 on a trail up on Mc caslin Mt. There are also many many miles of National Forest roads to explore plus great fishing and all services for food and lodging.
  16. I will PM you my phone number and we can talk about it personally.
  17. It has 170,459 on the ticker Oh, and the gear ratio is 3:55 Accrording to the tag on the front axle.
  18. Winter can be alot of fun if it gets cold enough and the snow comes around. Lake Winnebago can get some nice drifts on it when the wind blows. I have fun in my back yard after the creek freezes good and then I run down all the cat tails along the shore. The XJ that I am parting out is an 89 4.0L AW4 automatic. The motor I want to put in my wife's 89 along with the posi rearend. Let me know what you need or want. I also have a 4.0L HO out of a 94 ZJ. Burlington is about 1.5 hours from me and Marshall is 1 hour or so from me. Looking forward to meeting fellow Comanche addicts soon.
  19. I live between Oshkosh and Fond Du Lac by Lake Winnebago. I would be interested in meeting the Wisconsin Comanche owners sometime.
  20. Well I thought it was time to post some pics of my Comanche. Payed $200 for it and needed to put in a new rear brake line. Then I discovered the load valve for the rear brakes and decided that needed improvement so someday I will put rear discs from a 94 ZJ I saved from one I parted out. More to come on that. So far I have installed a roll bar and nicer doors off of a Cherokee I am parting out and nice bucket seats. General repairs I needed to do was the rear brake line, The rear springs were broken so I replaced those with nice used ones. The front axle got new Moog ball joints. Bought some new Procomp AT tires for it after last winter. Here are some pics for you. new tires new doors new seats the water hole was too deep for a Comanche without lift shakedown cruise to the badlands last year I plan on lifting it when time and money permit. We just spent alot on the outside of my house but now that winter is comming it is getting time for winter projects in the my garage that I remodeled last year. I will keep you posted with more later.
  21. Got my moneys worth in parts, now I just have to get busy and start swapping things around. Good winter projects.
  22. I scored an 89 XJ that was rolled on it's side for $500. Low milage Jasper 4.0L with good auto trans and transfer case. The front doors were nice so they went on my Comanche to replace rusted doors. Discovered the D35 in the rear has a Trak-lok in it. The bucket seats also went into the Comanche to replace worn out bench seat Plus other odds and ends I can use. The engine will end up in our 89 XJ along with the axles. The pick up could use the tranny and transfer case.
  23. I can play in my back yard in the winter. I Just hope that we would get more snow this winter.
  24. I think that I registered there last spring. I will have to go there and check.
  25. here's an article I found on BC4X4.com >My 1987 4.0 FI XJ has started sucking oil into the air filter. >It then dumps the oil on the ground. The local mechanic, says >the oil rings are shot. He says it is cheaper to buy a reman >than it is to overhaul the engine. Before giving up on your 87 4.0 due to the oil in the filter try a little clean up on the Crankcase Ventilation system. Its not a traditional PVC valve system. The large tube from the rocker cover is an air intake vent, filtered air, from the air filter. The small tube at the back of the rocker cover is supposed to always keep the crankcase in a vacuum to keep the air & oil moving the right direction. This usually keeps the air and oil in the large tube traveling in the direction of the rocker cover. The gromet holding the small tube at the back of the rocker is supposed to have a 0.1 inch orfice to meter vacuum. Its just rubber and gets plugged periodically. When it plugs, you lose the vacuum in the crankcase, the large tube becomes the crankcase vent (in and out) and full of oil. The large tube entry has no baffle plate in the rocker cover and it makes a mess that can lose 1 qt per 1000 mi. Pull the small tube out of the gromit and stick a drill of the appropriate size into the hole to clean it up, a 1/8 in drill is close enough. don't be shy as there is a baffle plate under the gromit to keep you from hurting anything important. Other things to check when you find oil in the filter is a gummed up throttle body. The idle air solenoid, front of the TB on the passenger side with wires out of it, can also get gummed up from the oil. Clean up the inside of the throttle body with carb cleaner spray and remove the idle solenoid to clean the air valve. I also check all the wiring connections, pull them apart and reseat them. When complete the idle should improve and you should be able to feel a vacuum in the big tube pulling from the crankcase. I do this about every 20k with my 88 4.0 and have 194k+ miles, passing the CA emissions test with original everything, etc. BTW, a master rebuild kit is about $600.00.
