  1. Went back to the AMC place today and finally got the pile I set aside there. Ended up getting the tanks/tips/cart for $100, the sandblaster for $20, the brake bleeder for $20, then rounded it off with the air tools/sanding discs for another $50. Pretty happy with it, as just the regs/hoses and tips are worth a bunch. I put some air to the blaster and found out it has a pinhole near the handle, by a weld. Looks like its been there for a long time, so I'll just re-weld the handle in that spot and see how it does. Will, do you know the deal with AGA? My boss told me if they were AGA tanks I am screwed once they go empty, as he didn't think AGA was still in business. They are AGA tanks. Rob

  3. Assuming a rough estimate of an 8 foot long bed, 5 feet wide, and 2 feet tall, that calculates out to be 80 square feet. In 80 square feet, you can put 597.6 gallons of water in a tank of that size. We'll round it up to 600 for sanity's sake. Roughly calculated, that if you had 600 gallons of water in a truck bed, you would net 5010 lbs. Judging by the bodystyle and the interior of the truck I can see, it is a '92-'96 Ford F-series truck. Being that I don't see towing mirrors, I will also assume that it is a plain jane F-150. To benifit the best, assuming that the greatest towing/payload was reached at the end of the build cycle, we will assume that this truck is a 1996 Ford F-150. According to the F150forum.com, the '96 F150 with the biggest V8 (5.8L), has this: GAWR: Front - 3275, Rear - 3777 GVWR: 6250 Stating that the axles can only support 3275, and 3777 respectively. The TOTAL on the truck is 6250. Being that you can only carry the GVWR, thats 6250. So take the 6250, subtract the 5010 lbs of water, and your F150 better weigh less than 1240 lbs. Which it doesn't. That much water, in that truck, or in any truck for the most part, is a very taxing thing on that vehicle. Yes, water only weighs (where's) 8.35 lbs per gallon, but, when you have 600 gallons, it starts adding up. Don't even get me started on how the sloshing 5010 lbs would affect the vehicle on the road. There is one truck in particular that I recall. It was a white ’86 with the big orange 4x4 sticker on the side. I can’t explain it, but you all know what I am talking about, but I fell in love with it. The best story I have about my truck has to do with bushings that had 200K miles on them. One hot summer afternoon I stopped by the local Sonic to pick up a Rout44 Cherry Limeade. Since the truck did not have cup holders I had it in my lap as I left town. The road leaving town has a bend in it as it turns into a county highway. I began accelerating to 60mph when my first case of death wobble set in. The violent shaking dumped the entire contents of my Route44 drink down my legs and filled my floor boards while I tried to get the truck pulled over to the shoulder. Talk about frustrating! What owner loves best about CC Without the Comanche Club I would still be driving the Comanche I bought off craigslist. The creativity and ingenuity that the diverse members of bring to the table is outstanding. With that said what I love the most about the Comanche Club is, the members. What would the ‘Club be without Hornbord’s chrome, jimoshel’s stories, freakjeep93‘s frame repair, or Sir Sam’s brutal honesty? The ‘Club has a dynamic in which all members have their place. I love it. You have given life to an old option by refreshing it, and making it better. Yet another fine example of the little things about this club that makes it head and shoulders above the rest.     Yep, me too. Went to the swap meet, and found this mint gate and tails, $90 for both... Don't need them, but this is just one of those things you can't pass up. Especially in the midrust. Rob

  7. Yep, think I might have found the only MJ stuff at the whole place... Tails caught my eye, then he mentioned the tailgate, which is pretty cherry. The tails are pretty mint too. I would have liked to have seen the rest of the truck. He wanted $100 for the gate, and $40 for the tails, beat him down to $90 for the set. Wade found a Jeep History book, has a whole chapter just on the Comanche I got for $15. Circa 1988, so we only get half the info. Got the '86 brochure for $5. Ended up stopping at a rummage sale on the way home, bought the made in usa vise and the master lockout set with all the slim jims/door tools for a $10 bill. All in all a good day out. Rob :cheers:

  17. I haven't talked to him, but after searching for MJ's, daily CL searches, and I usually go to look at any/all in the area I can, I know the signs. Now that I see there are actually two ad's for a '90 MJ, you must be talking about the one with the pic. I am sure all the V8 guys can chime in for you, telling you about the pro's and cons. Myself, I would be after the stroker.   18. While it has been done, a V8 MJ is tough. Its tough to keep one of those cool with the limited space for a radiator and tight engine compartment. We actually have a member right now that is doing it, but has to cut out the front crossmember to do so just to fit a bigger radiator in. I would recommend a stroker conversion for the 4.0L. You can use a 258 crank and rods, making the 4.0L a 4.6 and making a mountain of low end torque. There are plenty of writeups on this out on the interwebs, and a few members here who are running them with great results. Not only that, but in keeping the same block, you will be able to keep all your accessories, sensors, and such, without lots of headache's making something that was never available in it work. Just in case no one has told you, the XJ's to look for are '98-'99's. The '00-'01's have a head thats prone to cracking and causing trouble. '97's are plagued with electrical issues as they were the first of a new body style. '98-9's are revered for being the most solid and reliable in any condition. Don't get me wrong, if you find a '00-1 in good shape for a good deal jump on it. I would just be aware of its history, and check the Jeep for obvious signs of care and maintenance. Make sure it doesn't show signs of being overheated also. Rob :cheers:

I bet that truck is junk, and thinks its the rarest most awesome MJ in the world. I would think the Elim up in Wi would be a better deal. Looks more solid and unmolested. I think your the closest other member to MCF90. You don't care about HO/Renix? Rob
