Well, as some of you may or may not know, I have an MJ trip of somewhat coming up here the end of this month... I will be traveling from Harvard, IL, to Shippensburg, PA, to Virginia Beach, VA, and back. I will start the trip at my place, loaded up with the 1992 Late build Hunter Green Metallic Eliminator, destined for its new home in PA, with Comanchekid45's uncle, who plans on restoring it. After a night's stay at his place I am headed to Virginia Beach, VA, to Rebelfish99's place to pick up the '86 Factory Turbo Diesel MJ. Once I have the diesel on the dolly and loaded up, I plan on taking my time to get home. Probably drive a few hours a day, stopping at any curious spot, diner, drive in, dive, or hole in the wall. Going to have to stop by D.C. and see the monuments again, hit up the Smithsonian, and pay my respect to the tomb of the unknown. . I also wanted to post this up to see if any of you might be along the way. Maybe if I could draw myself out a map with members names and contact numbers at points along the way for emergencies, maybe a beer/meal if you aren't too far out of the way. The way there and the way back are pretty much the same. When I mapquest it with the PA stop and without the PA stop, there is only a 9 mile difference. I have pulled strings to get my roomie's '05 Silverado 1500 5.3L V8 extended cab to pull the MJ's. I wish I had something capable enough to tow, but the ZJ just isn't up to the task. I think that distance is just too much for the 4.0L and Chryco trans. I know his truck pretty good, its only got about 60K on it, and a decent hitch. Should work good for what I ask for it, gas mileage excluded. :ack: As for the trailer, I am thinking a dolly would be the best bet. JeepcoMJ is downsizing his setup, and is willing to sell me his dolly for the trip. I've used the dolly before, so has a handful of members. Geonovast even took it to MO. I plan on looking into a spare hub, as well as a race/bearing set. Be one of those "Safer than sorry" kinda deals. I drive pretty sensibly, and keep the speed in the gas mileage range, so I should be good with it at 65-70. I'm in no hurry. World's Fastest Comanche Pete also offered up his car trailer if I replace the ramps that someone didn't return the last time he lent it out. I thought about this, but I don't know his trailer all that well, don't really like the thought of an extra 2500 lbs behind the truck, plus the 3200 lbs of MJ. If I was going a longer distance, I might be more interested. What do you guys think? Either way, I can't wait for that sigh of relief when I pull down my road with the Diesel in tow, and can see my driveway... I'll enjoy the trip, but there is that sense of relief when its all said and done. Rob

Help!, My 'manche quit running
Automan2164 replied to Jerry Forrester's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The MJ has 'puters in it? Nah. These electronics are like the Abacus of auto technology... Pretty simple once you get how things talk to each other... Now that friggen '09 Impala I have in my bay at work... What a nightmare. Rob :D -
Hello fellow Chicagoland MJ'er! What's your price range? 4.0L/2.5L? 2WD/4WD? SWB/LWB? Rob

Door is from a '93 XJ. Don't scare me like that. The 8th digit of the VIN gives it away. P=1993. Rob :fool:

Contractor body!? I want! Rob

I know Brent, ($500MJ) and his wife have a Nissan Sentra, and love it. Angela drives an '07 Toyota Corolla, and she loves it. Its a bomb-proof car. She puts about 80 miles on it a day, and it does it without question. She gets about 35 miles to the gallon. Since she's had it, she's put about 100K miles on it (It's now at about 120K, on an '07!). The only huge repair and the only time it's left us stranded was when the PCM went out about 50K. It was covered under warranty, and was fixed once they slapped a new one in. Other than that, brakes, tires, oil, and a front wheel bearing is about the maintenance run on it. That, and it makes quite the MJ parts hauler in a pinch. Rob

If you would like, start a thread in the pub... I am sure there is a truck load of guys whom would have a ton of questions for you. Rob

Really... Where you at? Rob

:D I know! Rob

Didn't call Wildman first? Rob

Street Comanche's were made by a dealer in California as a limited production. They were all 2wd, 4.0L, and came with the body kit yours has. Most had sunroofs, bucket seats, and tonneau covers. They only made 100 of them, and each one has a plaque on the glovebox, denoting its number in the run. Number 24: Don't know the number: Number 20: Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found I am 75% sure that truck is a Street Comanche. It has all the cues... Even if the plaque isn't there now, I bet it had one at some point. Rob

:agree: Plus those service beds start rusting the minute paints sprayed on them. The Chevy dealer I bought my truck from regularly keeps new 3/4 ton trucks with service beds on them in stock and damn near all of them are already starting to rust. We have quite a few of them. This one is by far the worst. It's a Stahl, the doors are falling off, the handles rusted out, and it's only an '03. The Knaphiede's that we have aren't rusty as so much as ill prepped for paint. All the body color is flaking off and leaving the grey primer showing. By far my favorite body is the one on our 4500, and that's a solid steel Titan with the Autocrane. Rob

Tell me that's yours, and that there is a weird little plaque on the glovebox. Rob

After it settled out more: Getting to it... All lines were good up to the tank... What the... Filler neck actually rusted off the side of the utility body. With the 2 days of rain prior, it filled the tank to the top with water... Got to love the Mid-rust. The best part was what the driver left out for information... For awhile now, sometimes when he would fill up the tank, gas would shoot out under the service body. He "Thought I knew." :fs1: Rob

Tune ups being as cheap as they are, I did just go ahead and toss spark plugs and wires at it. Still had the problem, but also found additional code, P0300 again, and a P0420 Lean Bank 1. Hooked up fuel pressure tester after seeing the lean code, was on the high side of spec, and good. Took a fuel sample off the rail to check for moisture. Now we are getting somewhere. We had an episode of bad fuel like this where it would separate out in the holding tank... Ended up siphoning out 6 tanks... Took a sample from the holding tank, it was good fuel... Now what? Rob :D

Neither of them even make mention of upper control arms... Rob

Driver filled it up Friday, now Wednesday. Tank smells like gas. Rob

Coil near plug, each cylinder has its own coil and wire about one foot long. Original plugs and wires. Rob

P0300, Random multiple misfire. Rob

Well, last week I had a truck come into the shop that had an interesting problem that lent itself to some cool pics. Figured I would see if you guys could figure it out. I'll set the stage: 2003 Chevy 2500 HD 6.0L Vortec Gas V8, Auto, 4x4 87,000 Miles, Municipal vehicle since new Has always had sort of a stumble at idle since I've worked here. Seemed to follow moisture in the air. Came in to the shop on a wet day with a flashing check engine light and falling all over itself. I'll answer any questions you guys ask to see if anyone can get to the root cause. Rob

Off the top of my head, better companies with better kits: Rubicon express BDS Claytons I'll come up with more, but I'm currently at work under a junk Chevy. Rob
-
Neither of them. If you can't spend the money on a quality kit from a manufacturer with a good history and complete kit, don't lift it at all. Rob

guess that is more of a dealer option. as far as i can tell however it was the bumper that was sold on the truck. :D Just trying to make a point. The factory bumper I would trust with nothing... Jim's bumper however, looks to be all steel like the black Fey style bumper, similar to yours. All one piece steel, no plastic end caps. While the bumper on your truck was most likely put on at the original dealer, it is still an aftermarket piece. Rob
-
that could be a stock bumper.. the one on my red jeep is, or at least it says "Gulf Coast Jeep Eagle Mobile ,Alabama" So what you are telling me is that your truck came from the factory in Toledo, Ohio with a Gulf Coast Jeep Eagle bumper? Rob
