I added the Hellwig spring helpers and have been very satisfied with the improvement in load carrying and handling. Super easy install. http://www.amazon.com/Hellwig-1250-Level-Helper-Spring/dp/B001UFXS26/ref=pd_rhf_ee_p_tnr_5

Celebrating a new master cylinder fixing my clutch... Happy - Happy - Happy
-
I bought one of these at WalMart for $32. It has a built in lock and you can add additional pad locks if needed. I mounted it in the bed w/ two stainless bolts an lock nuts - not tighten all the way down. I cut a channel in the bottom of the box for each bolt to ride in so I can slide it up tight against the bed or slide it out for full access. The dimensions are around 32" long x 13" wide x 15" deep. I haul a mountain bike so I couldn't fit a regular tool box in the bed. This allows for easy removal if needed.

Well I checked the floor boards and really couldn't find much evidence of a leak. I figured maybe things had dried up since I only drive the MJ once or twice a week. So, I pumped the clutch good checked again around the rubber boot inside the cab right before it connects to the pedal. It was moist but, not like it had a noticeable leak. I will just replace the master cylinder and go form there. The good news is I went ahead and replaced my wheels - I am very happy. Before: After: Now I just need to be able to ride......

Probably the master cylinder. I changed a fuse last week and noticed it was a little grimy. I will verify tonight. Thanks again for the help - you guys are awesome!

It is a 88 Pioneer and I am not sure which tranny I have - probably the less desirable one. I will check the locations mentioned for leaks. I haven't seen anything on the driveway and its a new a driveway so I would have noticed. I will check the floor boards tonight. The fluid was a little low but filling it did not help. This sucks... I have new wheels and tires from a rubicon, just got the adapters and I want to cruise... Thanks, Gentlemen.

My clutch has gone soft and barely engages, it has to be pushed all the way to the floor to engage. Is there a way to determine whether the Master or the Slave clutch cylinder is bad or could there be another culprit to consider? Its 88 Pioneer, 5 spd w/ 4.0 not sure w/ tranny I have. Thanks,

I purchased a new front set from JC Whitney.

I tried to order a new set of hold down brackets. They were on back-order for 3 months and I gave up. Hoping to find another option for the brackets...... Wish I could weld? If you find or know of a source for new brackets - I am interested. I guess I have more money than skill and not very much of either. Verified "Tinkerer" , preferably in the shade.

This thread makes me sad. To witness the bashing of anything Jeep, just ain't right.

WOW! Thanks, I have been beating my head trying decide on some nice Rubicon take-offs but, uncertain about what I was getting into. CL doesn't have a "try and buy" policy and Momma gets really testy when my estimates double in price. This really helps.

Kalle's 1988 Comanche 2.5 4-Banger 2Wd The Build #3

That it looking good, nice work. Thanks for sharing I hope I have permission to borrow some of your ideas. I really like the console on the headliner. How is it attached? -
I hope I am not hijacking this thread but, I would like your input. I have a version of the stock jeep wheels - which I like but, feel like a larger wheel and tire would look way better. My Jeep is "Poser" it has a 4.5" lift but, is only a 2wd. After looking at the various wheels displayed in this thread I have to say I really like the larger Rubicon wheels. There are plenty of options to buy "take offs" on CL at a reasonable price w/ near new tires but, I am not sure which ones will work or what will be needed to make them work. Your advice is appreciated - Thanks.

I don't know anything about lights but, that's a nice looking Jeep.

Wtb: Left Front Fender Flare Mounting Bracket 1988 Comanche
Ronnie replied to locomotivebreath's topic in Wanted
I may have what you need. Which one are you wanting - there are 3 brackets for each flare. I have ordered a new complete set but, it is on back-order. I will be happy to pass along the old ones that are still functional. -

I fixed the hoist for the spare tire today. Not a bad job got lucky that I didn't have bad rust... The removal is pretty straight forward. Here is the disassembled hoist. Drilled and ground the 4 rivets and split the case. Here is the spool for the cable. I used a crimped aluminum cable stop to terminate the end in the spool and hammered (beat) it in place. Here is the repaired spool ready for assemble. I used 4 ft of new cable and stainless hardware (1/4 x 1 1/2) from Lowe's - $10. I had a piece of pipe and a stainless steel eye bolt to use on the tire end of the cable along with two stainless steel cable clamps. Greased everything and put it back together. Here is the finished product: Ta Da....

Here are some additional pics. I hope it helps. This is a top view so you can see how much of the trimmed tray slides under the seat. Here is a profile of the tray after I trimmed it down with the dremel so it would slide under the seat. I shared this just because I took the picture.... Good luck, have fun...

Yep, nice and sturdy. The tray part that is trimmed is about 10" long and 10" wide and fits tightly under the seat. I can't see it tipping at all.
