I just finished painting the mj and in order to finish it up and be back on the road, I'm in a need of a couple little odds and ends. 1. black "JEEP" lettering for the tail gate. 2. bolts that hold the the gas tank straps to the bottom of the bed. x2 3. drivers side seat bracket for the bench seat. And i'm not to sure about this one but.... 4. is there a spacer/ or some kind of a nut that goes on the 5-speed floor shifter before the knob, because mine won't sit straight when i tighten it all the way.

ok so this has now blown my mind. Could i get away with just plugging the lines to this thing and not using it at all and still have breaks? Also the breaks seem to work so is it safe to assume this thing works as well? or do i need to load down the bed and then see if i have breaks?

well nobody needs/wants an exploding rear end :rotfl2: so how do i go about doing this? anybody have a write up? and tips or tricks? can I grab all the parts i need at a junk yard?.

On the d35 that is in the rear of my 87 long bed, I have one of those load proportioning valves. I'm not sure if it works properly or not. Is there a way to tell? If it is not working is there a way to bypass it or get rid of it? Can I just plug the lines that are running to it? Thanks in advance. - Cody

question about painting an MJ
codybutz replied to mjtjnj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
keep the bed unbolted, put blocks of wood on the frame to raise the bed up and back so that the bed hangs farther off the frame, then i ratchet strap or tie the bed in place like that for the trip to the paint shop. This was you can reach an arm and a paint gun between the cab and bed, which allows these areas to be painted with the rest of the truck and there is no extra work for the body shop. then when you get her back home just have a buddy carefully help you place the bed back and bolt it down after it has been all painted. because the gas tank straps tie into the bed i made a temporary support for the gas tank during transport and until you get the bed back on. crawl under your truck and you'll really easily figure out what I'm talking about with that. - Cody -
i'm thinking the "polar white" that Nissan has, or the "diamond white" from Benz or i might just take the easy way out and spray it flat white. we'll see. either way all the trim, flares, grill and molding will all be flat black. White tends to make long bed trucks look like river barges, so i wanted to see some first.

codybutz replied to terrawombat's topic in The Pub
Bumper tie in brackets, bolt on armor for the bed sides ( like some sites sell for the xj)... more will come to later. -
Thanks Pete, You don't have a shot from the side do you? Thanks again - Cody

One of the guys i grew up with, family had one, with the wood grain panels. I think that it was " the jeep" that got me hooked. It was like my first contact with jeeps. I just thought the black and white paint combo on this one was really nice looking.

Just searching eBay for more things i don't need and came across this. Looks really nice so I thought I'd share it with all you guys. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-che ... 19b9ff7307

Spray in bedliner suggestions.
codybutz replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For what its worth, I agree with the rest of these guys. I've had a couple trucks LINE-X 'd and I feel they come out looking the best. The DIY 'ers just never result in the same quality at the end. The rhino liner and the rest or the spray on bed liners look OK and do the job, but in the long run I feel its the LINE-X that is the best. Just like with any body work, its all in the prep. The last truck I had and also what I plan to do with the MJ, is If you do all the sanding and prep, and all they have to do is just spray the truck they will cut you some off the price. Just my .02 cents. -
cleaning up old leaf springs
codybutz replied to codybutz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm thinking of like 5.5" or 6" of lift. I know the soa flip will net this in back with the right shackles. my main concern would be if my springs are in good enough shape to even bother with using them after relocating my brackets. they have a little sag in them but for being on an 87 they aren't that bad. what has anybody done to recondition the ones they have? -
cleaning up old leaf springs
codybutz replied to codybutz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ya I know that the ones that reuse them, change it to a spring over instead. I guess I should have made it clear that I would be doing the spring over switch. What do you think it would cost to get a set of springs re bent? how would you know if the springs are still even usable? Id hate to pay to have some springs re arched and then find out it wasn't worth it in the end. -
So most of the lift kits i see for the mj, reuse the old spring packs. How do you know when they are just to worn to reuse? Is there a way to re bend or repack them so that they become usable again? I've seen and read where guys just pull them apart and clean them up and put some paint on them, but this doesn't help with old sagging springs. I don't see the point in buying new/ stock springs , if I'm going be lifting the mj anyways. Would I be better off just buying new leaf packs that have lift in them anyways or what? anybody have any incite on this. Thanks

doesn't it say Cherokee on the fender?

To put this all in context, we need to hear what the favor was. Bailing out of jail? taking a bullet? made out with a fatty? we need details!

ya i know they don't self clean at all. I do use the jeep to get to and from the trails and i'm worried at how well the mud tires will wear on the street. i would say the jeep is driven on the street and trails equally as much, and would like a happy medium.
