  2. I say go for it, good color, love the wheel match
  3. haha don't knock on us 86' ers!
  4. For the record: Sigh I bought the Metra Harness... Ok, so no go on the Metra Harness, i guess ill buy the Crutchfield Harness, its the only place i can find it http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120701000/ ... rness.html Am i going to have any issues with the speakers grounding and shorting out my head unit? 5. hmm crawled under there today, i don't know all the parts of the truck so bear with me. the shiny muffler, unless magnaflow was making mufflers in 86 is not stock, but... the rest of the piping looks original and is welded to some old looking hangers. not sure what was fabbed up there. also the transmission fluid pan (whats the proper name for that?) had some auto trans fluid seeping, not dripping out of the bolts. i got out my ratched and noticed they were pretty loose, i tightened them just before it got hard to turn, but i hope they arent supposed to be loose on purpose. (seemed to stop the seeping) thats all!
  6. I plan to install it so that i can put it back to stock if i ever sell it. no worries there, I'm going to miss the stock radio a bit, very retro, but the radio isnt strong in out area and its kind of hard to find new cassette tapes hah.
  7. here's the relatively clean undercarriage, some surface rust but overall clean. i think it may be the original exhaust. I detailed the mp229 the other day to identify and inspect for damage, thats why its so shiny :D Image Not Found Image Not Found whats funny is the worst looking part of the vehicle is under the hood, my last manche was less rusty than this and that one had a hole in the floor. pretty good considering 24 years though. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found enjoy!
  8. the dealers invoice says 4.10 but i was just curious what a standard was, thanks for the detailed answer
  9. much better, i used pop rivets and silicone to seal in my last manche' so ghetto but it worked for at least a year till i sold it.
  10. thanks! shes still a tiny bit rough to start in the morning, but much much better than before. now i just gotta figure out the shaking violently from the transmission at 72mph problem. my last 2.8 didnt do it. woot! never ending, i love it
  11. so if i were a new stereo head unit, how would i go about installing myself. background: i have jvc kd-avx2 head unit laying around and it needs a car to put in, its the best darn unit in the universe and plays movies and you can burn a dvd full of mp3s and play it. and its baller. and i have an amp, and a sub. anyways. i called around locally today and no one seems to sell a harness for an after market stereo for my 86'. whats the best method for installing this bad boy, its been a couple years since ive done a full install, and that car (my vr4) had an aftermarket harness already. thanks! if i get enough good tips ill take pictures of the install for the how-to section.
  12. Anyone have any info on what the standard ratio was for the 86' 2.8L with the automatic?
  13. i wish id have posted more because ive lurked for a few years and have 18 posts... ding, ok now 19. lol
  14. Thats true, never thought of that, i think i saved them. They were pretty rusty though. and even the rust looked ancient.
  15. No its had a few owners, but looking back at the paperwork that came with it they were named "ethel" and "Martha" so it seems to follow the old lady owned it story i got from the guy selling it for his neighbor who i met and was also an old lady haha. i figure it never had a tune up looking at the parts, and the amc or ac that are stamped on them, and the condition of everything once pulling it up. the wires were toast, the plugs were ancient looking, the pcv valve spring was broken and rusty inside, the there were a few vaccuum lines that were rotted to the point of being severed. otherwise it is a super clean car and drives like one now check out the thread titled "I just made myself jealous of myself" i wonder how many other 86's are out there with the 229 selec-trac like mine has. Thanks!
  16. so we were both a bit nervous and running roughly. in one corner was my manche' who in all her 58K miles and 24 years hadnt recieved a tuneup. at all. in the other was me, a tune-up apprentice. i may have changed a water pump but never even knew what a distributor was. yee-haw after an exciting bout, spark plugs, wires, distributor, rotor, pcv valve, couple vacuum lines, air fliter, a carburator scrubbin' and a full detailing under the hood and through the undercarrage, (my transfer case is blingin') she is running so smooth. this morning, she started up without having to rev and rev and rev to get her to hold idle, and the drive was smooth as glass. all thanks to this website! you guys rock!
  17. south dakota was all ethanol and 85-87-91. it sucked.
  18. not sure what its worth actually, i think i got a good deal. He had it posted for 1500. i got him down to 1200. Id say i got a pretty good deal ;) its exactly what i wanted so it was worth it to me. flame on!
  19. So I'm changing the spark plugs and wires in my new (to me) MJ and I'm starting to wonder if its the first time its ever been done... Heck, theres only 58K miles. It sure is starting a bit hard and idling a bit rough The coolant hoses still have the AMC logo so i know those are original but the spark plugs look really old (not bad, just old). the wires have "packard delcore electronic supression 7mm" printed on them. I tried to look it up and cannot find anything but that they came stock on 80's corvettes. thoughts anyone? are these the original wires?
  20. Actually its wierd, when those pcis were taken it was turned off and at 0 by default... but... the guage seems a bit wobbly and sometimes when i come to a stop light it dips back into the 0 range, truck runs fine otherwise but it has be a bit worried if there is in fact no oil pressure. definetely needs a tuneup though, i would venture to say that it has the original sparks.
  21. i looked at the spare tire earlier, it still has the knobbys on it, and behind the drivers seat the jack and assembly are still in place and intact. i was detailing the inside of the engine bay today and i found the original build sheet crumpled up in the vacuum lines next to the fan. all faded though.
