bit of an update, got my truck towed to my new house, getting a new clutch in soon, but for now ill be gutting out the carpet and head liner, swapping out the bench for some nice buckets, until then here are some pictures i took today. **Ooops forgot to resize them, will be up in few mins** -
found a steal of a deal on the net, literally, a website i stumbled upon had an act heavy duty clutch kit for my manche, but the website didn't put a price for it so i only have to pay $10 for shipping, which they e-mailed me a receipt of, and once i send in a $10 money order then they will send me the clutch :D lol its worth a try and if they call me on it ill send them they copy of the receipt they gave me showing them i only owed them $10

manual to automatic transmission swap
MancheKid86 replied to MancheKid86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thats okay, i intend to getting the clutch working after the move, I'm looking at just putting in a automatic for the time being and pick up where i left off after the move, another factor is the ammount of money another new clutch would be, i would have to pay double the shipping fee to get it over the border so it would be like $230 i don't have, a transmission at a salvage yard would be about $130 -
a while back i replaced my clutch on my 86 2.5L 4 Cyl Manche, without it successfully working, so i worked on it over and over again but i'm running out of time, i am moving to a new place in around three weeks and if my truck doesn't run i will have to part with it, so i'm wondering what i need to do to swap out my transmission with an automatic from a Cherokee or Gran Cherokee, so far i know you need to take the transmission the flywheel and the bearing that goes in the flywheel, what else would i need to do? right now i have an external slave cyl. do i need to do anything to make the newwer slave cyl work with my truck? :help:

well i havent taken it in yet, but upon further inspection, i found that the clutch plate was over torqued in some places, and not even finger tight in others, i guess i learnt my lesson, do all the work yourself to ensure it is done properly and by the book also the fingers were all bent, was hoping that wouldnt be too much of a problem but i guess it was, once this beast is running, ill make close friends with the car yard owner and take the 2 4wd manches off his hands :D

bahh, it hits but not enough, i even tried removing a spacer, looks like my attempts are done, and I'm going to go to the shop

was revising the information provided to me, and i seen this little bit found it inside the bellhousing when i dropped my transmission, it may help? :P
-
well no pictures, but some results, built a platform that mounted onto my jack, lowered the transmission out to find that there was some bent fingers on the clutch plate, is that a big concern? if so how can i bend them back? took the bellhousing off of the transmission and I'm wondering how to test the clutch with it? :help:

post any movie that you know of that uses a mj in it here are a few i noticed War of the Worlds - scene where he hops into the truck and then the big tentacle flips it in the air Snow Angles - one of the main characters is banging his head on the rear wheel well, and at the end of the movie he kills himself in it, (poor mj :( needs a window fixing)

i have dropped the trans a few times now :D i can borrow a 3.5 ton jack, ill see if i can figure out a way to mount my trans to the jack, will post with pictures and results

pull and inspect your clutch pedal. there has been more than one report of the pedal failing at the welds. I personally have experienced this. the weld was not completed and ended at the skinniest portion of the metal, the portion where it was drilled for the sleeve. It ended up cracking, and eventually broke quick visual, ensure there is adequate weld **edit** may 27, 2019 check the welds on your brake pedal as well, i have just had a failure....

thanks for clarifying that, another question, what would be the easiest way to drop the transmission? all i have is the jack that came with the truck, plus one out of an astro van, and 2 3.5 ton jack stands, also my neighbour was saying something about the fingers of the clutch release plate maybe have to be adjusted? when he done his clutch the fingers were set to factory settings but werent enough to release the clutch, also a few got bent as i was putting the transmission in, could that have anything to do with it?

no luck with slave cyl, bled it completley, had tons of preasure, then i re-mount it, all the preasure is lost, found out that my real wheel brake cylendar was blown, so i bled again when i picked up the part and it still did the same thing? you were saying i can take my transmission off without taking my bellhousing off? can you take a pic or something that shows where to take it apart, and then what to do?
-
fixed problem, took some 200 amp electrical cables and replaced them, starts right up, found out it helps the engine if you put the vacume hose on too, runs soo much better
-
thank you for this bit of information, will do this tomorow asap, will post results

it is the proper throwout bearing, i ordered the kit for everything, what i think he done was sliped on the throwout bearing, but didnt slide it down all the way to engage the pivot arm? well anyways i need to drop my transmission again, have any suggestions on howto drop it, and get all 8 bolts out? because last time i dropped my transmission was in school on a lift with a transmission jack
-
well, i have an 86 manche, 2wd, 4 cyl, 2.5l with an external slave cylender, i have added brandnew clutch plate, preassure plate and slave cyl, since all of them were oem and died at the same time. when i was putting the clutch in, i had to go so a person working on my truck with me put the throwout bearing in, could he have not put the bearing all the way in to engage the plate the that slave cyls rod would hit?
-
i lowered the back of my transmission today, because my slave cyl wasnt engaging my clutch, found out that wasnt the problem, the clutchplate in the bellhousing is 'locked', i need help with that, shouldnt there be a plate that the slave cyl pushrod is supposed to engage? or what piece engages it?
