  1. I would be thinking a wheel bearing.
  2. I would check the slide pins and make sure they are well lubed. If they are okay chack the condition of your brake fluid. It should be nice and light coloured, almost clear. If its dark brown, flush it all out.
  3. I just went through replacing a mechanical pump myself, but it was on a tractor. It wasn't the injection pump, but it was the small lift pump that runs off the camshaft and pulls the fuel up to the main injection pump. Probably very similar situation to the VW. Everything ran fine, but it leaked really, really bad. I priced replacing the diaphrams, but a new pump was only about $60 so i went in that direction. For the price you are quoting its not worth trying to clean it all up and hope that it will start to pump again. I would just go new. I have also heard of the pumps on the VW diesels starting to let air into the system and the fuel then drains back to the tank leading to lots of cranking to try and prime the system again.
  4. I will have to check the u-joints. Is there anyway to bring the idle speed down to see if that makes any difference. Its TBI.
  5. No, i have not yet tried any additives. The lucas is good though??
  6. Well, I've had the MJ for about a year and a half now and when I put it into reverse, it drops in really hard. It has done this since I've owned it. It drops into Drive somewhat firmly but nothing like the way it slams into reverse. Its an 86 2.5L with the 3 speed auto.

Just another thought....In my opinion the Fiat purchase is not bad for Chrysler. To say that what works in Europe will not work in NA is not completly true. Fiat will bring its expertise in building small fuel efficient cars to the Chrysler showrooms. With the price of fuel always going up (which it will again, once things straighten around) the demand for more efficient vehicles will only increase. Here in Canada, the Corolla and Civic are usually the 2 best selling vehicles annually. Whether people like it or not, they are sooner or later going to have to trade in the Suburban or Crown Vic for something more economical. The Europeans have been dealing with expensive fuel for a long time and have designed vehicles that use as little as possible. I think that letting Fiat build cars under the Chrysler name will help by giving them a competive product in the compact auto segment.
  8. Nice Cummins!!!! We have a 2001 6-speed at home too. It has been very reliable for us, glad you stayed away from the auto, seems to be nothing but a headache for the people that own them. Keep the oil and fuel filters changed and it will run for a long long time.

The UAW and CAW (here in Canada) are a huge contributing factor to the state of these auto companies. I completly agree with BLHTAZ, the company should be allowed to control the direction of their business, not be manipulated by the union. In today's society there is zero need for a union, there are plenty of labour boards and tribunals designed to resolve disputes between employer and employee. When people used to work in coal mines and other dangerous and terrible working conditions for only a few dollars a day, the union became popular and in such instances it was needed. Today things are different and the union is only concerned about how much money it can get for its employees with no care for the company who is employing these people. The Honda and Toyota factories up here are an excellent example of good business practices in action. The wages they pay are a little lower than the others, but they manage to keep the union out by offering other incentives that would otherwise be taken away or not offered if the union existed in their factories. I know many people who work there and they love it. The one Honda factory has Hockey rinks, fitness facilities, free baby sitting services, etc, all right on site. All these perks would most likely be lost if the CAW came in. All these extras may cost the company a few bucks, but it all comes down to keeping the employee happy and a happy worker is a good worker. By spending a bit of cash they keep a loyal workforce and can run their company as they wish.
  10. I bought a new 870 Express last spring and love it so far. I use it for skeet, birds, even a couple groundhogs :D. I bought the 3" chamber and the 28" barrel. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy the 3 1/2" chamber.
  11. I found mine with very little rust and oiled annually last spring and paid $500 Cdn for it. It is also an 86 2.5
  12. Haha, thats funny that this just came up because i bought a 120GB ipod last week for the same reason (going to the gym). Used to have a 5GB Olympus mp3 player but it kept freezing on me.
  13. My 86 four banger has the NP 207 behind the automatic trans.
  14. The way I always check my batteries is with a load tester. It seems to be a lie detector for them. It may show 12-13 volts with a multimeter, but hit it with the load tester and it will really drop if its bad. if it holds 9-10 volts under load it should be fine.
  15. What kind of PC do you have?? My one buddy had an HP and for some unknown reason the USB ports one by one decided to stop working. We could never figure out why or get them working again. If you have some other USB device kicking around the house I would try plugging it in to check to see if its the PC that is bad or if its the iPod thats bad.
  16. The interior lights in my '86 are like this too (they have three positions). Maybe these lights were only common to the earlier models.
  17. I just did my headliner about a month ago. Went to Wal Mart and bought a roll of fabric for about $6. For glue I went to Canadian Tire and found a can of spray adhesive in the automotive section, I think it was made by Permatex, its in an orange can, says its good for headliners. Depending on how many coats of glue you do, you may need 2 cans. I just bought one and ran out when doing my third coat of glue. Seems to be holding up well so far.
  18. The PO had put one on my MJ. Once I brought it home I think it was one of the first things to go.
  19. Good News!! I went to the JY after work tonight and grabbed a new temp gauge from a cherokee. Put it in and bingo, everything is back to normal again, no blown fuses and no burning smell. Still can't understand how that happened in the first place but its all good now .
  20. Haha I like that All Makes Combined :laughin:
  21. here are some pics of my spedo cable setup.
  22. I have a New Process 207 AM 3. Once my camera charges I will grab a pic for you.
  23. I will try to get a picture of mine as it is much different than the ones that you are speaking of. Mine does not seem to be adjustable like the newer ones are.
  24. I checked out this link http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm and see what you mean by the "quill", but my speedo cable setup is way different since I have a mechanical spedo. Mine just has a little metal tab, not a fork that holds everything in.
  25. What is this quill that you speak of?
