  1. I think what messed me up that there is a blue wire in the OE radio plug on my 86. So I thought that it was for the power atenna lead, nope its something else. What ever.:dunno: But I did get the radio figured out though. For the LCD Dimmer wire, I hooked it up with the main hot wire for the radio. It dosent dim when I turn on my lites. But at least my parking lites don't come on now with the radio. :D
  2. The orange and black is Illumination on my 86. The orange and black goes thru out the dash and Illuminates the lites for the switches, gages, and radio, and is controled by the dimmer off the lite switch. The LCD dimmer wire is a different wire color on this radio from a 90. And i agree with you that the Illumination or dimmer is N/A. But to get this radio going where would I hook up the wire for the dimmer so its not trying to run my lites too?
  3. Well whom ever we get we are going to be screwed either way. When clinton was in office, they shut down the local lumber mill and put people out on the street. All because they didnt want the kings caynon national forest to be "cleaned out" of all the dead and dying trees because its not natural. It raises fire danger but its not natural. :headpop:
  4. The link dosent answer my question though; :dunno: 1988-90 Jeep Cherokee Stereo Wiring Constant 12V+ Pink Switched 12V+ Purple/Orange Ground Black Illumination Orange/Black :redX: Dimmer Dark Blue/White ?????????????????????? I don't have a dimmer wire on my 86, so where do I stick it.
  5. :D  I want to be the first to welcome you to the Comanche Club. I'm somewhat new here as well. But I can't really help you with your question though.
  6. At the wrecking yard I found a stock cassette digital radio. Luckily on the back of the radio it has a wiring diagram and I'm pretty good hooking up stereo system, but this one has me stumped. Why a cassette instead of a CD player? I have XM radio and I use that more than Cd's and I need a radio for it to play through. Plus it says JEEP Dolby System on it. Any here is my problem, on the radio diagram it shows a wire for the panel dimmer that hooks with the rest of the dashboard lites and a LCD dimmer wire? I hooked up the Panel dimmer wire with the LCD dimmer wire together since I didn't know where that LCD wire went and everything was fine. Until I noticed that when I had my key on and the radio on and no lites on that my parking lites were on as well. Shut off the radio and the parking lites shut off too. So I cut the LCD wire and the radio doesn't work now. So where does the LCD wire hook to?
  7. Well I fixed it, I went to the wrecking yard and found an 85 Cherokee with a 2.5 5speed. And grabbed that speedo cluster and clock. Plugged the new cluster in and everything works, go figure. Also the clock works too. Now I have to return the other cluster back to the wrecking yard and get credit for it, no cash but I think that I might find something that I don't need.
  8. OK, I got the new temp switch in and it works but the oil pressure gage doesn't nor the amp gage. I tried the open circuit test for the oil and temp. Temp worked but oil pres. didn't. Where does the gage for the alternator gets it reading? Directly from the ALT or another switch? Thanks for your Help. mike
  9. I live here in the central part of California (fresno). I could look for you but I'm still new to the comanche.
  10. Some one asked me what year was my S-10? Its a jeep Comanche! People ask some weird questions, the other day when I was driving a semi truck with a blown tire on my tractor, a car pulled up along side on the freeway and remind me that I have a blown out tire.. People don't realize that we can't pull over and change out our flat tire to a spare tire, um we don't have a jack and lug wrench.
  11. Congrats Erik
  12. What year and models were these motors installed?
  13. Are you trying to remove the bulb from inside the truck? Go to the end of the lite and remove the whole lite, lens and frame. Then you can safely remove the bulb on the side of the lite itself. Ill post a pic of it. (Sorry for the crappy photos) View of whole lite removed. Image Not Found Carefully remove the bulb from the side to change it if your lite has worked before. Mine hasn't worked from the day I got it, so I cleaned the contacts with a small needle file. First I used a screwdriver on the end of the lens where the plug connect to the lite, next to the pivot point, carefully pry the lens off. Image Not Found Doing this will allow you to get into the lite so you can clean up all the metal contacts, on the base and on the lens. Image Not Found
  14. WOW, it must be an omen. I to am having sensor problems.
  15. I'm curious to this problem too. I too am finding unplugged connectors.
  16. Um ok, Gulp Ill try a little later. thanks. Do you want to help me do this? How long of a drive is it from NY to Ca?
  17. Thanks for the thought but I want to see what others might say. How hard would it be to remove the old one?
  18. Would this fit a 2.5L 4 cyln?
  19. I went to take out the old temp sender and this happened, Image Not Found Image Not Found Damn thing broke off flush with the head. What do I do Now? Is there anywhere that I can temporarily add a temperature unit till I get this fixed? At least it dosent apear that it leaks. The oil is leaking from the valve cover gasket.
  20. Ok, I changed out my gauge cluster on my 86, 2.5L, for an 1988 XJ 4.0 cluster. The tach, fuel and speedometer works. BUT the volt meter, water and the oil pressure gauge doesn't. I did change out my old oil pressure sending idiot lite unit for a gauge unit instead, and still no worky. Should I have gotten a O.P. unit for an 1988 instead of a 1986? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I was doing alot yesterday to my 86. Like installing the gauge cluster, looking for wires to install those courtisy lites under the dash when I pulled out my door switch and cleaned it. Now my door buzzer works. I wish that I never cleaned it.
  22. If the cluster is coming from a 4.0 and going into a 4.0, then there isnt any adjustments needed. how about a 4.0 going into a 2.5? A tach from a 4.0L going into a 2.5L will have to be adjusted. It will read wrong by a considerable margin. All a tach does is count ignition pulses. On a 6-cylinder engine, one revolution is 3 pulses. On a 4-cylinder engine, one revolution is only 2 pulses. It takes the 4-cylinder 1-1/2 revolutions to generate 3 pulses, but the tach will only show 1, so if the tach says the engine is turning 1,000 RPM, it will actually be turning 1,500. If the tach says 3,000, the actual RPMs will be 4,500. So how do you adjust the tach from a 6cyl to a 4?
  23. Thanks for the history lesson and info.
  24. My grill is so sun faded that I want to repaint it black but then I noticed there is silver on it as well. Does anyone have a pic of the factory grill when new in 1986?
