Say Hornbrod - where does the second line from the filter go? It appears to route towards the front - perhaps to an oil cooler? I have been thinking that this would be a good mod to help with the engine heat problem. As I understand it, a remote filter through a heavy-duty cooler could make a 15-30 degree difference in oil temp...possibly making a cooler block... just a thought.

The vote seems to be in favor of Stabil, but I have used that in the past without success...in fact, that created the majority of my tear-downs. That is why I have been trying Seafoam...although it has failed me once as well. I was thinking about dousing the carbs with WD-40 (realizing that it is mostly Kerosene) or a film of oil. Thanks for all the responses

I have a question for the small engine folks here: Considering the fact that we have a need for generators here in Louisiana, and it is preferrable that they start when you need them, I am looking for a way to store them that works. Now, I make every attempt to exercise these generators (when I can remember) about every two months, but have still had problems with varnish in the carbs. Cleaning them is very time consuming, and running the units more often just wastes fuel. Currently I am draining the tanks down to about 2 cups of fuel and adding Seafoam to the tanks. I then run the generators after the Seafoam and then shut off the fuel valve, effectively starving the engine and scavenging the fuel from the carb bowl. I then loosen the bowl and allow it to air dry. Previously I had left whatever fuel was in the tank intact, treating it with the Seafoam and then going through the running / fuel shutoff procedure. Both methods have resulted in at least one carb rebuild a year. I know most of you guys in the northeast must have small engines that you only run at certain times (snowblowers, etc.) and wonder how you keep the carbs from gumming up. Any ideas are welcome!

I would put that engine in my MJ in a heartbeat! Is it just me, or does the skid plate under the transfer case appear really thick?

I suppose we need to re-schedule that RMS replacement. You're gonna need a 1 piece oil pan seal and the rear main seal (which is a two piece seal). Also 5 quarts oil and a 5 lb bag of kitty litter (to catch spilled oil). Otherwise, what weekend looks good? -
There are always those who don't understand science and are not interested in learning. Besides, if it does create a black hole that eats the whole world, who would be here to get pissed off about it?

I just learned that she drift races with one of her sons. I gotta admit, I was not expecting that. ???? What's drift racing? A good way to wear your tires out really quick :D

Snopes.com confirmed this photo is a fake, as is the one in the bikini with a rifle in her hand. Doesn't matter, she's hot. Easiest way to tell this photo is fake, her Snuggle Pups are actually larger than these. Snuggle pups!?! :jump: :rotfl2:

You should be able to get them cheaply at any qwuto parts store...or PM Brent :brows:

Just got internet back - only lost power here for about 6 hours (whew!) Generators worked great! JUst took a drive around in the jeep - lots of limbs and debris but no real damage here. Flooding from the lake up about three blocks into the city. I understand the folks further west of us got hammered though.

The funny thing about it is...depending on the weather forcaster you listen to, Gustav is either a spent category 2 already onshore, or a category 3 just comming ashore. I am sticking with Underground Weather - at least they don't have all the bullcrap. I need to become a weather forcaster...its the only job where you can perdict wrong 90% of the time and still make really big bucks!
-
OK. 0815 hours and light rains, medium winds and the power is flickering but holding. Gustav is just comming onshore now, and I understand they are reporting 6-8 foot waves comming on Grand Isle, and 117 MPH winds. Thats about 80 - 100 miles from my house. More later.

Hmm...it appears we are really screwed this time...we're gonna be on the east side of the storm.

Well crap...I guess I better go add to the Home Depot shareholder's pocketbook and buy the plywood. There goes the money for the paint on the christmas jeep...

Hannah will never make it due to the high pressure ridge over Florida rignt now that is moving to the east. Unless She does a radical shift southward she will be pushed towards Europe.

Ahhh...the 1700 report puts it back on us...

Yeah, a generator is almost a necessity here. I had two 5500W before Katrina and got a deal on a third 5000W. Got smart when I built this house and installed two generator panels so I don't have to use all my extension cords. I just checked the three generators last week for Fay, and now we might have this Gustav thing....maybe I should have left well enough alone.
