Question on rear axle upgrade
Sir Sam replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You would need to weld in new perches, they are not the same width. Also, the 97+ 8.25 is more desirable. -
I will be doing that - Once I get a move on. There have been a couple, one of them was in the projects forum. he posted mostly completed pictures. Thing is, if your going to do the whole interior you really need to the the drivetrain too, which means just finding a good parts XJ, and if it were me I would go for a 99+ with the black interior.

Question about seafoam Need kind of fast
Sir Sam replied to fatcat0491's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you can pour it down the intake, I found that it stalled doing it that way I pulled the hose off my power brake booster and used the vacum source there to slowely suck it in untill about half a can was gone. -
Also, if you are installing either the old style or new style power mirrors into a door that previously had manual remote mirrors you will want to get the interior block off plates from a 96- XJ/MJ that either had power mirrors, or if an MJ, that had the door mount mirrors. Also to remove your manual remote mirrors the plastic black off plate is held onto the "joystick" with a tiny little torx, I think a t-10 or so.....its pretty tiny, too small to be in most screw driver bits sets.

+10,000! The operable vents LEAK. Count your blessings that you have the fixed windows and save your money for something that will be an improvement. I paid extra to get the optional operable vents on my '88 Cherokee. The XJ is now 20-1/2 years old. For 20 of those 20-1/2 years the vents have been glued shut with silicone because that's the only way I could stop the leaks. Yup, they were dropped along about 1992 in the cherokee as an option, and good riddance. Plus, they were a terrible security risk. IMO, if you do anything find a nice set of 97+ doors with power windows and power locks.

placed a proxy bid on this today for 1500, figure I couldn't go wrong at that price. http://klode.com/kws/napplications/display_pics.aspx?stockid=892747&exit=close Well I was going to check in on the bidding, sometimes you will be outbid at your bid price, meaning someone else could be winning the bid at 1500 and I would need to bid 1600 to win. In which case its worthwhile. Well I was having a computer problem, finally got it up and logged in, as soon as the bidding window opens up I see that its asking 1700, I pause for about .5 sec to decide I want to bid, and then the bidding closes. Crap. Who knows, I might not have gotten it at that price anyways, and 1900 really would have been more than I wanted to pay(1900 being the next winning bid increment) Maybe its better I didn't have anymore stuff to deal with right now.

IMO leave the fixed glass the vent windows tend to suck.

You can either use an XJ 97+ without power windows switch in standalone anywhere you can find the space to mount it. Or the 96- XJ power window switch in the same way. either way you go be sure to grab the pigtail with it.

Any idea how much you were towing? 3800 pounds felt pretty stable behind the XJ, can't imagine the lighter rear end of the MJ would make it that much worst.
-
You are correct that the hitch class refers to the hitch rating, and not the overall vehicle rating. Now rather than exceeding the hitch capacity and the rating towing capacity I will only be doing one of those. I tend to feel that rated tow capacities are usually understated, EG the KJ in the us is rated at 5000lbs, the same vehicle in europe is rated at 7000lbs.

CrankShaftKid's 88 MJ (4wd swap)
Sir Sam replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I'm gonna guess the paint code is PS5? -
I have a 48k mile 2001 4.0L with AW4. That would look swell.....just swell in that MJ.
-
Margin of error type of thing - flatbed with my Z on it will be over 5000 lbs. Uhauls was more expensive than JCW.

Thats a better option than not voting. I get pissed when I see people not voting period, you should at least be registered, and go cast your vote. even if that vote is blank or you write-in your own name for everything. i've heard this also. here's how my brain is thinking...I vote for evil or evil or write in, hmmm so i decide to write it in, then what? i wasted my time when i could of been sleeping or working. I'll reconcider what I've been thinking all along IF someone gives me an example of when a "write in" even came close to winning let alone even got mentiond on ANY news program after the votes. You are aware there are more than 2 presidential candidates on the ballot right?

Ok, this guy is a big time Zcar guy, has a bunch of S30's, does land speed racing out at bonneville, has something like 30 old Zs on his property, is a bit of a crazy koot, but is an absolute hoot and a half. Tells stories about launching cars off of railroad tracks over Japanese police. Well the gist of his job is that he travels to different places around the world and works on their industrial equipment, compressors etc. Well right now he is in africa, Morroco, a few days ago he posted about how he had some stuff stolen from his hotel room, well here is the update:

Well my rear bumper is fubared, and my MJ didn't come with a hitch, so short of finding both of those at the junkyard off of a good MJ what are my options for either? I noticed JCW has a class 3, and a buddy of mine works there so I could get 25% off........honestly though I would rather have something rated higher than a class 3. Any cheap generic bumpers out there? Because of the scope of my project I would rather not spend the all the time to custom build both of those, I would rather just get something to slap on and get one more thing accomplished.

I ain't clicking on anything with the words " 12" ", "butt" and "plug" used to describe it.
-
Doh. I forgot about those. That was the other difference in the 86, which I still need to address on mine. Darn getting old thing and forgetting stuff. :headpop:  I figured you were, which is why I pointed that out, and why I said on his 92. Really, the best bet in your case is to drill out the 3 spot welds on either side, weld in new front corners, and put in the newer upper radiator support, then get mounting brackets for the 4cyl radiator and call it a day.
-
Just so were on the same sheet of music here, maybe I should have posted this link. Click here In pic two is the brackets that I think are in question. If you do not use these, the alignment of the front clip with the fenders will be left with just the four bolts that attaches the front clip. Not wise. This would allow the whole front to shift which could cause problems down the road. Those brackets set the fender to header alignment, not just hold the fender on. As for his being a 92 vs the 86, they have the same bolt count for the fenders. The only difference is the firewall/rad support. Thats the only reason I had to mod anything or else it would have been a direct swap. Not trying to mix apples and oranges or step on any toes, its just if your going to do the swap, might as well do it all. We are on the same sheet of music so to speak. Yes the fenders have the same number of bolts. However the header has all those bolts along the top of the radiator support that hold the header to the body, then all the two bolts on either side of the header do are pull the fenders into alignment with the header (which you also have to adjust with the brackets). Look I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, but if you don't have it, its not a deal killer. Heck for as easy as it is to take the header off you could put it on without those brackets, order them online, and then weeks or even months later pull the header back off and put it back on with those. All those bolts along the upper radiator support are what really hold the header in, with those bolts, and with the 4 into the fenders, the header is attached securely, and won't shift.
-
Nice to see you found your way over here.
-
Yes you do. That is if you are reffering to the bracket that bolts the front of the fender to the firewall in front. I found this out after the fact and had to go back to the jy to get it. Here's a link that may help you out a little. Just remember that you shouldn't have to mod the header unless you putting it on an 86. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... hp?t=11270  You really don't have to have the fender brackets, with the newer front clip(as on his 92) there are enough other bolts to hold everything together that you can get away with not having it. Now thats not to say that if you can grab em, do it. They are always nice to have. But if you cannot get a set you can live without.

Time for an AW4 swap.
