  1. Hello all- Getting around to introducing my truck... At the end of 2000 I bought an ‘89 MJ SporTruck 4.0L, AX-15 NP 231 as a daily driver while I re-did my ‘01 XJ. I bought it from a 75+ year old man who primarily used it for fishing and hunting trips – had 60,000 miles and I purchased it for $4,500. Not too soon after I christened it “Stinky” as I think he piled the dead animal carcasses and catch on the floor of the passenger seat. I worked like hell to clean the carpet, but there was no getting rid of the stench. I drove the Comanche to 100K and decided I wanted to bring it back to “new” condition. So I got myself paint/ body certified and began working on the MJ nights and weekends. Completely stripped and painted it back in 2002…then let it sit for close to 4 years thanks to marriage, kids, work and life. Fast forward to 2010 and I’ve started back to work on it in a slightly different direction. Removed all the Renix wiring and running gear to go H.O. Basic plans and WIP are: 4.7L H.O. conversion, 4.11 D30/D44, 3.5”/4.5” lift, 97+ XJ door windows, Eliminator/ XJ Limited interior, Hurst AX-15 shifter, CRL power slider, modified XJ overhead console, XJ ebrake, r134 AC, etc. I’m in no rush to get the MJ done as I am an insane stickler for detail. Currently I’ve stripped/ am re-doing the chassis undercoating and am finishing up painting under the hood. Don’t know that you’ll see much activity with this project posting because as I mentioned, I’m slow moving… Below are progress photos over the years. I’ve definitely taken steps backwards to go forward. (The only “before” Comanche photo I have shows the Grizzly rims I swapped on pre lift -- The MJ originally had Jeep 10-spokes and camper shell).
  2. Made a trip to PNP today and found a 92 MJ eliminator (build date 1/92)...For those located in sunny CA, FYI. It was in good shape. There was a mint condition draw-tite hitch on the ground behind it (some one pulled it, but left it. Must have only needed the mounting HW and spacers). Taillights good, I put them in the bed. Many other parts, bucket seats, etc.
  3. I think the senders between common year MJs and XJs are the same and are interchangable. I'll be getting into this more in a couple weeks when I pull a 91 XJ sender/ pump assembly and see in person. If you search online for photos of 91 XJ fuel sending unit and compare the image to your MJ sender it looks identical.
  4. There's a 91 MJ long bed (white color) being parted for those of us in CA...Long bed 4.0L, AX-15 2wd w/ 200+K & bench seat. Was a roll over (roof damage). New clutch, strong running 4.0L (heard it/ drove it). What's gone from it is all the wiring & fuel tank sender/ pump. PM me with questions or contact seller directly at dodgevipergtsrt@hotmail.com
  5. Was this the MJ on ebay a few months back?
  6. Reverse switch plugs are the same. Am curious though if you can confirm your '90 AX-15 is a 23-spline as well. I know "all AX-15's are 23-spline" but...I am doing a swap (Renix to H.O) soon and would like to learn what spline count yours is. Thanks
  7. I talked to the yard this afternoon and was told it was already turned to scrap. Glad they saved the front driveshaft off it to ebay...
  8. Thanks Dave - Your MJ is wired like mine at the PCM - that being without the brown starter wire to the starter relay. I know you live in CO, but out of curiousity, do you have a CA emissions MJ? It would say California on the emissions label located on the firewall. Correy - I'm guessing based your location you've got a FEDERAL emissions vehicle? Thanks again all.
  9. Thanks for posting. I'd like to get another couple people to chime in to see if their 91 has the brown wire between the blue wire and orange wire. For some reason my 91 MJ 4.0L 5-speed harness did not come with this wire over to the PCM -- and it does not look modified. My wire just goes straight from the starter relay to the starter. It wouldn't be an issue except I am not using the PCM the wiring harness was originally matched with. I live in CA, so I will be plugging the harness into a CA-emissions PCM versus the Federal PCM it came with. I've got all my wiring out and am looking to get it right the first time. Thanks
  10. I am looking to confirm something on your trucks. I'm installing complete 1991 HO 4.0L, AX-15 5-speed wiring in my '89 Comanche. For those of you with the 1991 4.0L, 5-speed combination can you take a peek at the PCM plug (driver inner fender). You don't need to unplug anything. There's a cap over the PCM plug that conseals the wiring. Unfasten the 2 clips that loosen that cap. If you are standing in front of your truck at the header panel/ front bumper it would be the top row of 10 wires closest to you. You won't have to dig at all to see there. I believe the order should be (starting closest to the PCM plug mounting bolt) : NO WIRE (pin slot is capped), MEDIUM BLUE, BROWN (?), ORANGE, PURPLE/WHITE, BLACK/WHITE, BLACK/BLUE, RED, TAN/BLACK, GREEN/RED I have a 1991 FSM and I looked at the starting diagram and believe it is incorrect a bit for the manual transmission, so I am looking to confirm off an actual vehicle. Thanks.
  11. MJ's/ XJ's installed with OEM Mopar accessory R12 AC kits were supplied with this. Meaning your truck left the factory w/o air; AC installed by dealer or owner.
  12. I've got a NOS set of chrome letters. Bought them back in the mid-90's for an XJ project of mine that got stolen. I can send you photo's if you want. Only thing that didn't come with them is the pal nuts for mounting. I paid $30 for the set. Same cost to you plus whatever shipping is from CA. Let me know, thanks.
  13. My advice is similar to what others have said...First, however, decide how long you plan to keep your MJ and how your are going to use (or abuse) it. I bought my MJ back in early 2000, drove it for nearly 2 years before beginning my resto/ rebuild. Mine is not going to be a daily driver -- more likely a Sunday driver once done. Figure out your long term plans for your truck FIRST. I went to night school to get paint & body certified. It's worth it if you really want to do your truck top notch. Practice plenty on scrap doors and fenders. Get to know your gun & paint. And by all means rent a booth to spray in. Good luck and take your time. Your MJ is worth it.
  14. Long bed, bucket seats, maroon interior, chrome FEY step bumper (good shape) and silver trimmed taillights (no cracks)
  15. Long and short bed skids are significantly different-- not just length, but mounting points. Won't happen on your SB.
  16. It's an upshift light. Supposed to be the best time to shift for mpg.
  17. Not sure how many CC members live in Iowa, but... I'm rebuilding an 89 MJ 4.0 5-spd 4x4 in California. Looking for someone who lives near Des Moines Iowa willing to pull parts at the Wrench n Go there... The first task is confirming the truck is a 4.0L, 4x4, 5-speed. (I called the yard and they cannot assist with that). I need the complete interior wiring harness (meaning the interior firewall fuse box, wiring that runs behind the dashboard and all wiring around the entire cab - except the door wiring. Am also looking to get the wiring harness that exits under the drivers seat and runs to the gas tank and taillights, including the taillight wiring harness itself. Also, would like to get the fuel pump & sending unit). Basically all wiring from the firewall back. Looking to the wiring to be unplugged and not cut. Obviously I will pay for your time in addition to the parts. Not sure how familiar you are with dissasembly of the MJ. If you're familiar with dissassembly, this is will be a 4-5+ hour job. You'll need to gut the interior of everything. One of the biggest challenges will be getting the center bolt out engine side of the fuse box (this holds the engine harness to the fuse box to the interior fusebox). I can let you know all the tool specifics you'll need to bring to get the job done. Let me know someone is interested. I'm thinking $25 per hour + parts. Thanks, Gianni P.S. Moderator Hornbrod can attest I'm not a scammer.

  19. Not sure if any of you have ever noticed, but the factory parts manuals also list 93 MJ specific parts as well. For example, here's a listing of the interior dashboard wiring harnesses for MJ's only for the HO years. 5601 6869 MJ 1991 5601 7509 MJ 1992 5601 9161 MJ 1993
  20. Be sure you do have Selec-Trac...Majority of MJ's came with Commancd Trac. And this hose should be left as you found it you have Commancd Trac.
  21. I bought some 2500 parts from China via a 'buyer'. She charged a $300 initial fee but it was worth it. I was particular about the finish of the parts I was getting and she patiently bought and exchanged, photographed, measured and finally sent the parts I needed. She earned every dollar. Not at all the inexpensive way to go, but worth it to me. Let me know if you would like me to send her contact information.
  22. If they looked good, I'd get 2 sets.
