  1. Today I put some gas in my Comanche and drove it to work
  2. Thoughts are with you, best wishes for a speedy recovery..
  3. This do ya? Needs a black background really. You can't see the icicles hanging off his chin.
  4. aye aye! Stop picking on the V6 man ;) First, they're not that bad! Especially when you look at gas milage figures or compare it to a 2.5L. Second, we all have to start somewhere and if you happens gets a 2.8L it's better than no Comanche at all
  5. Took out the thermostat and checked it. Works fine, opens at 84C. Cleaned the contacts on the temperature gauge sender cables. That made the gauge a little more responsive  I'm getting somewhere! Going to change the sender unit next and see if that helps. Checked the front brake pads, they're OK. Tried to remove the rear drums to see how it's looking in there but could not get the darn drums off and then I ran out of time, next weekend eh!
  6. Interesting Pete :hmm: I only know this from the guy that pulled the box out for repairs and he said it was a peugeot. He does get a bit confused sometimes though  D'ya think if I got the vehicle ID number checked out that would clarify matters?
  7. FWIW My peugot box had the clutch and input & output shaft bearings replaced recently. So at least I know those parts are available for it. My wallet didn't like it much though! :ack: And the second gear synchro is still non existant. Cheers, dreaming of a 4.0L + AX15
  8. Wow. Do MJ's flex that much as standard? Or does that truck have upgraded suspension?
  9. Me too, the deeper the better. Fun fun fun! :clapping: Keep your rain, I'll take snow instead anyday What powers up the hydraulics on these plows I've seen attached to Comanches then?
  10. Nope I hadn't
  11. I have lots of patience  Thanks for the info, I'll do my homework before taking any action
  12. Good to hear your still in one piece after that. Dents can be repaired  +1
  13. Cool Idea! I would like to see some pics of this mod. Will do. It's nothing fancy or good looking though! But it works. I just bought around 10ft of seatbelt webbing and a strength rated Carabina Hook Tied the webbing into a loop using a special webbing knot I once learnt. The carabina clips onto the metal loop that holds the lap belt to the vehicle body. The new seatbelt webbing loop goes onto the carabina clip over the back of the seat and gets tied onto the tail end of the existing lap belt (with that special knot again). As I say nothing fancy but I don't like the idea of a loved one face planting the dash or gear shift lever even in minor a shunt! It would bend the seat in a heavy smash but with the two end of the seat restrained by the driver and passenger belts it should at least prevent some nasty head dash interfacing for a smaller person  This was just a quick fix as I'm collecting a friend from the airport today and it was bothering me having a "loose" centre passenger. I'd like to create a mounting point for the shoulder strap somewhere more substantial on the body just above the centre passengers left shoulder. I'll be looking into that when I get a chance
  14. OK, thanks mv, I'll have a look into the Chevy 3.4 availability then. If a good one comes up I can always dry store it until the 2.8 starts wearing out
  15. I saw Eagle's post as above on another thread and was wondering just how easy the swap is? Does the Camaro block fit straight onto the OE gearbox? Would it really be worth the trouble when my current 2.8 V6 runs so well? Thanks for the advice
  16. Pulled the seat out and all the trims to get at the recoil seatbelts to find out why they weren't working. After examining them it turns out they have a miniture pedulum mechanism and are only supposed to lock up if the vehicle experiences a sharp change in velocity. So they do work after all!! All that dismantling effort wasn't wasted though, I fitted some speakers in there whilst I was at it, cleaned 23yrs worth of crud from under the seat and then added a shoulder strap to the centre lap belt :wrench:
  17. Awesome! Thankyou sir. Looks like I'll be having a fun weekend then! :wrench: Hope it's not raining. At least I guess it'll give me something to writeup on the "What did you do to your Comanche today" thread
  18. Is that an easy job hornbrod? What would I need to complete the job? Bearing in mind I'm a Jeep novice and need the vehicle daily!
  19. Thanks for the responses guys  Sounds like yet one more thing that has failed on my truck then! :(
  20. If you pull on the seatbelt in a Comanche when your stationary, should it lock up? Mine don't, is that bad? Thanks
  21. Yup hardcore, tea drinking, pie eatn' all weather backwoods man. That's me OK, maybe just the tea drinking bit then
  22. I hope so cos I ain't buying another truck! :D +1  The MJ's happily carried ours a few thousand miles round the BC mountain roads now :driving: and no problems so far, touch wood! Being an odd sort  I actually bought the MJ specially for carrying a camper. Ours is a fairly small import size one (~1045lbs with propane and water(Please don't anyone tell me what the max is supposed to be!! not unless it's more :D )). I did need to fit air springs though and I drive very steady. Some pics FYI Maiden voyage before fitting Air Springs.... not good! Hit the stops every pot hole and rolled worryingly. After Air Springs.... poor pic but you get the idea, it now rides nice & level with minimal body roll and no bottoming out even on wash board roads
  23. Interesting idea. Any sciency types on the forum that can tell us if it's a con or not? Boats use sacrificial cathodes(??) to prevent the props corroding but I don't think they're powered. I'd get one if I knew it worked. The testimonials are glowing but they could be totally faked! I checked some of the companies names and they seem real enough.
  24. Awsome! Really appreciate the advice guys! This is such a good place to be a newby  So then, my nasty noises when attempting to change (at low speeds) on the fly suggest either I have a bad transfer case or it's low on fluids. I'll check out the levels asap........
