ccv oil leaking out of air cleaner help.
wooky48 replied to Redramman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
yup, 89 4 cylinder, had plastic cover, got an aluminum cover from a '92 4. The TB port was the same one that went to PCV but the PO adapted somehow, another "repair" I had to fix. The setup I have now with hose to the nipple in the cover it still tuns great and decent mileage too. -

Out of 3 breathers I found the only one that fit was an Edelbrock, had to take the rubber off it and use the original, double check yours for fit, the hose I can't remember the size but 1/8th sounds right, again doublecheck what you have might be slightly different than what I have here -

mine did have a pcv on the old cover, new one just has a hose nipple and the hole for the pipe/hose from the filter box, hose now runs from TB base to the nipple. -

You could also make a "hot rod" out of it :brows: . After changing the broken plastic valve cover with an aluminum one I also took the hose out of the loop from the filter box by putting an Edelbrock breather (out of three it's the only one that would fit  ) in the cover, no more oil in the box and the engine still gets filtered air for ccv sustem to work -
PSSST, tell her it's a yard mule, might get away with that.....lol. :brows:

Indestructable AND would get into places others couldn't touch :brows: . When I saw the title of this thread the picture in my mind was a Willys/Jeep cargo truck M715, I was WAY off......lol.

Part 2 A buddy of mine had a wrecker, a pickup, his wife's car, an antique Chrysler 300 (all tagged), a bass boat, a dirt track car on a trailer, and another track car around back. Neighbors complained so he put the spare racer, pickup, and the 300 in the basement, built an 8 ft fence w/gate around the trailer/racer in back. (HERE is the BEST part) He put twin cherry bombs on the wrecker and used it to comute (leaving at 5:30am) and started a weekly tuneup out front on the track car every Saturday. Needless to say the neighbors didn't bother him much after that (afraid? of what he might do next??....lol)

Hey Sam, I don't see a problem there, everyone needs wheels these days, I had a problem when I lived intown a few years ago. I bought a PAIR of '49 Studebakers (since sold to a bro-in-law), one a 1/2 ton, the other a 3/4 ton. The 1/2 was being used for engine and trans parts and was basically a complete truck parked in the side yard. The 3/4 ton was completely disassembled, cab on jacks, frame on jacks, bed leaning against the back of the house, rear axle next to front porch.....you get the idea. The powers that be had no problem with the torn down 3/4, they were concerned about the "junk vehicle" in the side yard  . (THANK YOU NOSEY NEIGHBORS). It took some doing but in the 30 days alotted I had reassembled the one and both were moved behind a barn at (now ex) inlaws. The next year the house had been sold and I moved back out to the country. Again Sam, I don't see any problem at your place IMHO.

TJ, in the 2nd pic on the driver side of the T-stat housing is a little patch of rust, that is where the plug on mine was. It might do ya better to see if you can find a housing with the plug, remember the adapter will have to be extended anyway because the passage inside isn't all that deep, machine shop may be more trouble and expense. My 2 cents ;) -

FWIW ;) After reading this thread I noticed that the type of engine was never said there TJ. I guess you have the 6. I have a 4 and did the same thing, aftermarket gauge set, but due to the size of the probe vs stock sensor I had to find another location. I ended up taking the plug out of the T-stat housing and lengthening the adapter to fit it there. Thread tape ensured a good seal with no drips. I wanted to use electric gauges but couldn't find any in the 1 1/2 inch size (to fit in the dash cluster :brows: ) looks almost factory. I know I know, pics pics pics, but my "camera" isn't worth a flip (it's what I get for el cheapo from WalMart) fuzzy pics that are hard to see anyway. -
Oh ok, thanks maddzz, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet til next Friday and get another O2 sensor (it's probably all gunked up from PO's neglect, if the inside of exhaust is any indication). Oh BTW, the EGR seems to be ok, can open it by hand with no binding. You see where I was thinking.....older injection/carb vehicles used a solenoid type thingy to "prop" the throttle when the A/C was turned on or when cold. I'm still on a major learning curve here because up until I bought my Benz 5 years ago everything I owned has had a carb on it, fuel injection is a new thing to me. (we had my son's '54 Caddy running 10 minutes after the wrecker guy dropped it in the D/W when we bought it)

I've done a search, no answer I need there :typing: . First, what exactly does the ISA do? I have a 2.5 TBI, 4 speed, no P/S, no A/C. With all the other work done on the motor :brows: it runs fantastic, strong (for a 4 banger), smooth, doesn't burn any oil, BUT after it warms up it has a high idle speed. Vacuum hoses have all been checked and replaced :wrench: . The ISA plunger seems to be retracted (it will spring out when throttle is opened) and at closed throttle the cable bracket rides on/sits against the end of the plunger :hmm: . I had the idea :smart: that IF it's function was to bump idle up with A/C on I could remove it or shim behind it so the throttle will close completely (plunger/bracket). Any second opinions? I'm getting decent mileage but would get even better if the idle wasn't so high.

Just curious because this wasn't mentioned........ were back taxes charged for the years it wasn't registered. Here where I live they do, doesn't matter to the local tag office that you just bought a vehicle that has been sitting under a tree or in a barn for 10 years, SOMEBODY owes back ad-valorum on it before new plates are issued.

I don't know about the requirement for a windshield BUT around here where I live, as long as it's insured and tagged not much can be said :brows: .

In my area some are just crushing cars now because scrap prices are up and others because land value is up and the owners are looking to pad their retirement fund. One I frequent however, I doubt they will close anytime soon, the cars with motors and trannys removed are there for a few years before being crushed to make way for more, but some "rare" ones won't be scrapped, a whole line of old Scouts, some older Chryslers (even the owner's first car a 48 Plymouth), a Cat generator that has a GM big block to start it. In the warehouse I know of (seen them) a 426 HEMI and a 4 bolt main double hump (HP) head 350 Chevy. He won't even talk to you about selling either of them. Not to mention the several rows of Cherokees and other Jeeps.

Gotta get me one of them... and a camera too I get it now ;) you got the camera for her, not by trading her for it

Yup, the Honorable (?) Governor Sonny Perdue campaigned against changing the flag, got elected and whats the FIRST thing he did, yup. From what I have learned since school (documentaries and reading) the Civil War was not started due to slavery, it was economics. The North telling the South who and what prices Southern goods could be sold to and for, slavery was just an added incentive for some to fight. Slavery has been around for centuries (Egyptians are technically black and had slave that built the pyramids). And for that matter my own ancestors were probably taken as slaves of the Romans. Such trivial stuff for some to still be arguing over in this country is beyond me :dunno: , get over it I say. Whats the next thing to be changed, the USA flag because someone coming here from a foriegn country doesn't like the color red ?? or blue is on the flag where they came from?? Ranting here, I'll stop for now, but I say this, if you don't like things the way they are here, Delta is ready when you are.

I don't know how to or if you can, multi-quote :hmm: ,......... anyway.....Yea, one site I WAS going to for my car, I got slammed/flamed by one particular individual every time I posted a question or comment (isn't that what the site was for anyway??) or was told to search (even though I had mentioned that I had done a search). NEVER has that happened here. Hey Jeepco, you gave me an idea, a HEMI powered MJ :brows: in honor of your Bowtie MJ.....lol. I doubt it would fit but the neighborhood Jeep-Chrysler Dealer SHOULD have all the parts needed (including the bumper sticker)......lol

is it possible to BLOW a rear main (leaking 4.0)
wooky48 replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Eagle, I was afraid of that answer. PO put a new clutch in and I'm betting never thought about the seal. I'm probably not the only one that feels that the engineers/designers should be cattleprodded :brows: when they come up with some of their ideas -

'89 2.5, stick, can the RMS be replaced fairly easily without pulling anything major? I gotta clean all that oil off of everything (and I mean everything) from the block back. Oil is puddling directly under rear of the block. Purple Stuff generously applied mainly to tranny (but away from harness plugs) and soaked in, sprayed away with hose (again away from electrics) would this hurt anything or is this not a good idea I put clear tubing on the line from the airbox to the ("new" aluminum) valve cover, has some oil in it already (1 week), is this normal or what else do I need to look for to fix? -
Should've left well enough alone......
wooky48 replied to wooky48's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No other hoses to plug or eliminate Jeepco, also there isn't a hose nipple where you plugged into the manifold (?) on mine so I went ahead and ran it to the TB plate. After sitting there for about 6 hours (and after the daily thundershower here :brows: ) I went ahead and did the 1/4 turn (a couple needed 1/2 turn), hooked up the hoses, (crossed me fingers) and fired it up. After a 10 minute run, no leaks at all WOOOO HOOOOOO Thanks again Jeepco  for the heads up on what year to look for an aluminum cover (don't know what year it was but it came off of an "exchange" (bad) motor at the JY). -

I'm gonna go out on the limb here, I looked again in the Haynes book I got here. Seems that later engines didn't have a PCV but had another type of ventilation. I'm going with the interpretation I got from it and run a hose from the nipple on the side of the cover to the TB plate. I have the bolts hand tight with a socket and extension and well let it set up overnight before making another 1/4 turn on them in the morning (I have to get the Jeep back up and running due to an overheating problem that has come up on my car).
