Mnkyboy nice pole barn! I think you may have a young mechanical engineer in your family :)
-
They'll work especially if there's a free lunch involved! Too bad your not a neighbor here in Arizona....
-
Comanche Style Spring cleaning that is! Brush clean is fine lol
-
That's too funny! The Jeeps multiplied haha
-
Exactly haha. They dropped the gas tank, got it drained and cleaned up...pulled all the bed bolts, not easy stuff. They're good kids and will be driving Jeeps someday soon. Imprint them while they're young.
-
Give em a Comanche to work on! Only way to learn is to jump on in.

Thanks - My Dana 30 is the xj/mj type front axle for 1988 jeeps and the bottom is metal on metal with a little spring retainer clip the screws into the spring perch. Once you get it apart you'll see the spring perch has a clocked groove to accept the spring. The top does have the rubber insulator and I guess you could replace that if needed. The OME 10mm spacer could slide over the bumps top and seat against the old insulator. I think that's what I'd do unless the spacer instructions said differently
-
Here they are installed, I'm getting about 2 3/4 inches of lift from the ACOS's plus the 1 3/4 in from the OME springs. I was looking for around 4 1/2 in total lift which is more then enough for the 31's.
-
Yes, those are the exact springs. Not quite 2" but OME also sells a 10mm spacer that gets you an extra .25 inches for a total of 2.

Mj Rear Spring Shacke Question

Thanks - went with Cooper Discoverer 31x10.5R15's on 15x8 US Black Daytona steelies. Upgraded the gears to 4.10:1, should be a good all round truck for desert and school. Edited -
www.quadratec.com/ That's the site link, you'll have to navigate to the OME springs. ACOS = Adjustable Coil Spacer System made by jKS
-
I bought some Old Man Emu springs from Quadratic. They list a basic lift of 2" which I'm combining with ACOS. Supposedly they give good ride, getting close to testing them out over Spring Break.

Great pics Skidoo_i. 89Tonto...Are you removing the roll bar yourself? The donor truck I used for the roll bar was pretty new at the time, probably a 87-88 and way back in 1991. Top side the fasteners are internal Torx, probably a T50 or T55 from what I remember. They were not easy coming out, might have even put heat to them. Can only imagine how hard they'll be on a Mid-west truck 20 years later. There's also a rubber insulator between the roll bar and the bed that you can salvage. The brackets are pretty hard to get lined up on the new installation. You'll line the roll bar up, drill the new bed and then have to wrestle the brackets around until you get them lined up. BTW, I really like the short bed factory roll bar look.

I know it's hard to see in the pic but the drop shackles are pretty close to vertical as it sits now -

If there's a short somewhere, should see it as a resistance between the red positive terminal (with it removed from battery) and a ground point. If there is no short, the resistance is close to infinity, or very high. If there is a short, you should read some resistance on the Ohm meter. Once you get a fix on the resistance, try and remove fuses or disconnect connectors until it goes away. Then you've isolated the bad circuit. The brake could be the source of the intermittent ground, may need to pump it and watch the Ohm meter. Hope that helps.

Ball joints can be a real challenge! I did mine though because I'm passing the truck on to my son and wanted it to go another 50K miles without any problems. For the 4x4 front axle, MOOG makes a nice upper and lower replacement called "problem solvers". I also went to Harbor frieght and picked up the C-clamp and Adapter set, still had to hit it with some heat. Another fun project to take on!

Mj Rear Spring Shacke Question

Sure I have a pic and will post in the AM -
I feel bad didn't read comanche89's Sig! Front bearings on the 2wd should be a good project to take on.

That doesn't make sense to me, the 12v battery would discharge into the 10v source. The alternator should regulate to maintain the battery at 12v and supply any electrical loads like high beams. It's true that the alternator will cut back once the battery is fully charged.
