Steering is not something to save money on. Do yourself and everybody else on the road near you a favor and buy a quality steering system, not a cheap system. Willy

Working on a couple of other things to stay legal. With the new bumper, I needed somewhere to put the license plate. I didn't want it hanging below the bumper just to get ripped off while wheeling, but I also wanted to be able to open the tailgate at the same time. Since the bumper is 4" tall and the license plate isn't (it's 6" if I remember correctly), I had to think of a creative solution. I made this bracket that slides into the receiver. When we go wheeling we just remove it and nothing hangs below the bumper. WA also has laws about tire coverage. Legally, there is a limited amount of tire that can be exposed and isn't covered by the fender or a mud flap. I found some mud flaps on e-Bay, picked up some door hinges and hitch pins, and made these mud flap brackets. I also made these removal for wheeling. Willy

Yes. I ended up cutting a section out of that bracket right above the shackle hanger. Willy

Check out the thread on NAXJA. It is a very detailed write up about the differences and what needs to be done. I also posted a link to the pics that are missing from the NAXJA thread. A lot of good comparison pics between the Jeep and Durango steering boxes. Willy

Looks like the '98-'99 Durango boxes will work for XJs according to the NAXJA thread. That would mean they would also work for early TJs. I know at least '03 (maybe earlier) and later TJs use a different box with the top mounting bolt in a different location. I was able to find the pics missing from the NAXJA thread here. Willy

Looks like they've got a good Bushwacker salesman in the area. :hmm: Willy -
I don't see where he mentions what year TJ he has. I know there were at least two different steering boxes with different bolt patterns used on TJs. Do you have any other info about this swap? Thanks, Willy

That's cool. I was actually referring to when he is in the bed of the truck while driving down the road. I hate seeing dogs in the back who are not properly restrained. It is incredibly dangerous for them. They can't understand the concept of what will happen if they jump out and could go after anything. I was recently driving through Portland on I-5 behind a Sport Trac with a dog in the back. He was running back and forth, hanging over the edge of the bed, and barking at every vehicle that drove by. Luckily he didn't jump out, but I thought he was a couple of times. I was fully prepared to beat the sh*t out of the driver if he did. It's cool that the hospital let's him in. I bet he brightens the day of a lot of the patients. Willy

Thanks! I get it now. ;) Willy

Did you take any pics? Willy

Nice passenger. I hope it's attached to a harness back there. :driving: Willy

This will tell you exactly where to go to find the axles. It will ask you for the gear ratio you are looking for. Most places will usually already have the axles removed for you so all you have to do is pick them up. Willy

Am I missing the ACOS or are these old pics? Looks like you just have coil spacers in these pics. Thanks, Willy

No, it's not. Please don't do this. Willy In this picture specifically: - The stock upper control arms were used for the upper arms in his radius arm set up. They are made from thin stamped steel that are not designed to handle the additional stress that this radius arm will put on them when the suspension cycles. - The upper control arm brackets really need to be tied together. There is no lateral support in those brackets. As soon as there is any twist in the suspension, if the stock arms do not fail those brackets will bend or rip off. - The welds look very questionable. The metal does not appear to be prepared properly before welding. It looks like there is oil and dirt all over the axle. This will contaminate the weld. I also question the penetration of a lot of those welds. Willy

I was referring to both. Willy

A spring over in the rear will do a lot more than level it out unless you do something with the front. If you are just looking to make it level remove the spacers above the coil springs. Willy

Any chance you pulled out in front of him or changed lanes without noticing him before all of this started? :dunno: Motorcycles can be easy to miss sometimes. Willy

You mentioned in the Pacesetter thread that you are using their headers. Would you by any chance have any pictures? Thanks, Willy
