If the pilot bushing was indeed part of the crank... why would you need to remove it? Does part of the converter actually sit in that hole? I've never had an automatic apart. Yes, in the middle of the torque converter is a piece that occupies the same space as the pilot bushing. I am guessing it is probably to help center the torque converter. Willy

Initially I was bewildered by the pilot bushing in the end of the crank shaft. :hmm: When I first looked at it I thought the bushing was part of the crank shaft. Unhappy thoughts of tearing the engine apart to replace the crank shaft or getting a completely different engine went through my head. Then a buddy pointed out that it was separate from the crank shaft and helped me remove it with grease and a dowel. :doh: Besides that there really weren't any surprises. Everything else swapped over pretty easily. I also didn't bother hooking up the NSS or the transmission/ignition lock. Willy

I took it for the emissions check yesterday. Their equipment couldn't handle the SuperTrapp. :no: So off it came. :yes: I returned for the emissions check today and passed. Even without a catalytic converter. :clapping: It still has a glass pack, but is definitely louder when you get on the gas. I also removed the bolt on set of overload leaves. Willy

I've done it. Check out the '88 build thread. I used the XJ floor shifter. It was the easiest route since I had a complete parts XJ. Finding the correct XJ parts would also be a lot easier. :thumbsup: Willy

Hello comfort! Got rid of the bench seat. The padding was pretty shot on the driver side, plus bench seats suck. :thumbsup: The buckets are much better. :yes: Anybody interested in the old bench? It is a later one with head rests. It's missing the seat brackets and will be heading to the scrap yard when I get rid of the XJ. Willy

I don't plan on any major changes in the near future. I may remove one of the overloads. It is the kind that bolts to the top half of the leaf pack behind the axle. Willy

Maybe check some of the older project threads. I remember one guy bought a kit maybe 6 months to a year ago. I'm pretty sure it wasn't from Motion. I don't remember seeing any updates to his build lately so it will probably require some digging. If I get time I'll try to find it. Willy

If you are referring to the transmission in the '98 XJ, it is an AW4. Willy

The '90 AW4 will have a 21 spline output. Willy

Since Deb has an MJ, I guess it was time for me to get one. Picked it up yesterday. :banana: It is a '91, 2WD, 4.0, AW4, and D35 with a lunch box locker. I don't really have big plans for it. I've got other projects in line ahead of it. I'll probably drive it around like it is for a couple of years. Maybe eventually make it 4WD. A few things I plan to do in the near future. - Swap in some XJ buckets I've got - Look into brakes, currently not the best - Fix speedometer, it's somewhat intermittent - XJ center console - Replace the passenger side window roller handle - Maybe swap over Deb's old bumper if I can straighten it out Willy
